One more week off work and I just want to get back to a routine now

Is anyone else the same? After a week off I’m sensing the children are the same too.

Well that’s parenting for you @lelei the first few years Christmas and holidays are knackering as you need to watch the kids permanently and ‘good times’ are often overshadowed by illness. Then you reach the teenage stage and they don’t want to do anything with you or, if they do, it can be overshadowed by teenage grumpiness which equally hacks you off!

Wish I had a week off work to relax, im rather envious as im poorly too but can't afford the time off. Only had Christmas day off, Working long days I'll happily swap and you can go work instead.

This thread has just reminded me that I don't have a new calendar to go up on the board in the kitchen. I usually buy one well in advance, and this year I have forgotten entirely.

Yeah, I'm back at work tomorrow (and was at work till Christmas Eve and that's long enough. When the DCs were younger we used to go and stay with the ILs for a couple of days then have a couple of days away somewhere just the four of us to relieve the tedium of all being at home in the middle of winter but Ils are too frail now and the DCs have got work/uni studying so we don't go anywhere and the time would drag, I'm glad my workplace doesn't close down.

We are just in our holiday routine, love it

hyggetyggedotorg · 28/12/2025 12:21

I love Christmas but also don’t mind that I’m back at work tomorrow.

HansHolbein · 28/12/2025 12:23

I don’t know what to do with myself!

Clockyclockz · 28/12/2025 12:25

I’m watching tv/movies, eating, reading, yoga, walks, leisurely meals, enjoying lie ins, online shopping. Going swimming later.

Crunchymum · 28/12/2025 12:25

I am back tomorrow (albeit WFH) but I'm actually really enjoying the kids all having some proper downtime.

We're all so busy, kids are out the house 8am-6pm most days, we always have stuff going on so I'm really enjoying a few lazy days. We were out Christmas Day and Boxing day and they'll be going to grandparents for a few days from tomorrow so it's literally been 2 days which probably isn't long enough to feel desperate for normality 🙃

We have watched films, crafted, played with all the new toys, slept late and yes had too much screen time but its just for a few days.

Kids will be away 29th - 31st. I'm off work 1st and 2nd but DC3 is back to her tuition on Friday, all 3 of them are back to swimming club / lessons on 3rd and and they are back to school on 5th so I'm making the most of a few days doing naff all.

i’m struggling a bit tbh, I really really want to enjoy my time off! but the lack of routine combined with bitter cold weather makes it hard. Feel like i’m doing the same thing every day and also wasting my annual leave! but also i’m not ready to go back yet

Livpool · 28/12/2025 12:37

Nope - I love it. We’ve all just be chilling out, it’s been great

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 28/12/2025 16:32

Ive had an extended break so still a couple of weeks off for me. Very glad of it. Dh and Dc will be off doing their own thing from tomorrow so I’ll be sorting the fridges and freezers and will probably do a bit of batch cooking. Moving into a new home next year so will spend some time sorting stuff for charity and vinted and will make sure to factor in an hour or so each day to do absolutely nothing as I’m burned out from work.

NancyJoan · 28/12/2025 16:47

It is very, very hard with small DC, I can remember feeling like the days were endless at the same stage. It’s cold and dark, and the classes/clubs etc that you might usually do are off. Can you summon some others in the same boat for a soft play/trampoling/mini golf session?

Once they get older, and you can all just potter companionably, sit and read, snooze or go out for a coffee, it’s lovely.

Tryingatleast · 28/12/2025 17:13

Can we swap? I’m working until New Year’s Eve (retail). I totally wouldn’t mind being at home!!!!
