Neighbours complaining about reindeer food

Elder dc bought a bag of porridge on Xmas Eve to mix with glitter with their younger siblings and put out for the “reindeer”
As dc do on Xmas Eve they got carried away and as well as putting the food in our front garden they sprinkled it on the public road.
A neighbour who we do not know by name but to smile at had posted on the local FB page complaining about the mess which went over our heads but he then confronted dh in the street today when he was getting in his car.
Because of the old dry weather the porridge is still laying in the street.
Dh being his usual non diplomatic self wasn’t exactly friendly towards neighbour.
Ive no intentions of going out with a brush and shovel for what is a few handfuls of oats and it’s to rain in the next few days anyway but am wondering if this is something that others would be upset about in their street?

It’s not great tbh - I would be really annoyed with the glitter (unless it’s degradable)

This. Why did it need to have glitter in it?

Fling a bucket of water over it into the drain! Maybe next year it’ll be reindeer shit on the path 😂

Hibernatingsloth · 27/12/2025 23:57

Porridge oats....that's fine.
But GLITTER liberally sprinkled outside, that's so irresponsible, OP.
Why would you not clear it up?
It's poisonous and so dangerous to wildlife, particularly hedgehogs and birds.
Tbh, if I was your neighbour I'd be furious with the glitter left everywhere too, as you certainly have no respect for the wildlife that would be affected by it.

Apologies, had an unexpected double shift to do today so not had time to come back.
I’m smiling at all the posts calling me lazy from people who have been able to eagerly await my update on mumsnet over the last 24 hours 😉
Yes the glitter was edible as eldest dc is a keen baker and it came out of her supplies.
No I’ve not been out to clean it up, it rained earlier so I’d probably have to get the pressure washer out which would only confirm that I was “that” neighbour if I make noise at this time of night.
Instead I’m sitting having a 🍷, ironically a Christmas present from a neighbour as I do her bins for her each week due to illness 😁
Good night 🥂

Well put your vino down get off your backside and clean it up today

Agreed.
You've not done anything to redeem yourself there. We all work, big deal. We all the bins in big deal.
You actively said you wouldn't do it and you seem to think its funny.
Which rather proves the point of the kind of person you are.
You didnt help yourself there love.

Anyahyacinth · 28/12/2025 17:32

The farce is these children OP are going into that polluted future with micro plastics in their brains and other organs (glitter and oats 🤦‍♀️) ...something to remember when you think it's funny to laugh at people who care about littering
This has been an anti Christmas tale 🤢

CrazyGoatLady · 29/12/2025 09:21

Google what real reindeer eat OP, you'll find out they don't eat glitter. If you have to do this ridiculous thing again next year, show your kids an article about what reindeer really eat and leave out a bowl of oats with some sliced carrot on top or something. The glitter is so unnecessary.

It wasn’t actually intended to be eaten by any reindeer.

If you need to get the pressure washer out it’s not being washed away by the rain is it?
