What will you do NYE if you’re by yourself?

I could go away somewhere. Not really the partying kind and my closest friends have partners or family. What would you do if you were me?

I’ll be going to bed early

SomewhereInMyHeart · 26/12/2025 22:17

I’ll cook a nice dinner (something proper not party food), have a half bottle of Prosecco, watch tv and channel hop in a way you can’t if you’re not alone 🤣 and text various friends and family. I always stay up.

EssaDiTractor96 · 26/12/2025 22:18

When I was single and in a similar situation on NYE, I would book myself a trip somewhere. Riga, Venice, Vienna etc. Would then book a theatre /opera trip or nice dinner on the evening itself and dress fabulously for it.

For me, it was bliss waking up somewhere different on new year's day and going exploring.

I’ll be on my own. Have an early night.

Wincarnis · 26/12/2025 22:19

Watch a film and go to bed early as usual - hoping that ddog isn’t upset by fireworks

JurgenKloppsTeeth · 26/12/2025 22:19

Usually I spend it with a friend watching films and drinking wine but she’s just met a new bloke and is going to his.

A few years ago I got a deal at a spa hotel for one night B&B plus access to the spa. I had a room picnic with tasty things from M&S and then went to bed early. Then spent the day in the spa. It was lovely.

This year I’m going to a theatre matinee with friends and then coming home for an early night with the cat. I cannot wait. I haven’t stopped since last Saturday, got ill on Monday and I am so looking forward to a whole night on my own, nobody asking me for anything, not having to prepare food and drinks. Bring it on!

NYD I plan to spend sewing.

Watch the webcam pointing at the Trevi fountain.

Having had some awful ones in the past I don't like New Years Eve celebrations. So I have some nice food, then go to bed early to read my book - and wake up the next morning when it's all done. Then I go for a walk and meet up with friends, as New Years Day is lovely and chilled.

Miranda65 · 26/12/2025 22:22

maldivemoment · 26/12/2025 22:25

This sounds blissful.

I’d have an ‘everything’ shower or bath depending on your preference. Put on fresh, cosy pyjamas. Cook and enjoy some good food, glass of good wine, light some candles. We have a lovely view so if probably turn off all the lights and stand at the window for half an hour reflecting on the passing of the year and welcoming in a new one.

Maybe watch a little bit of something. Early night, freshly made bed, good book.

However you plan it, I hope you have a really lovely evening. ❤️

BCBird · 26/12/2025 22:25

I will probably have something nice for tea and an early night. Friend will have been here 2 days-iwill probably enjoy the peace

Bufftailed · 26/12/2025 22:30

Alone for the second one. Am happy about it tbh. Christmas/ all of December was social and hectic and expensive/ indulgent. Will have a couple of glasses of wine and watch some tv with my dog. Early night except my DC likely going out so will be waiting for him to get back

Alexadidzammomarryjackie · 26/12/2025 22:30

I eat some party food/cheese type stuff and open a bottle of champagne. I watch a film, then, depending on the lineup, watch jools or another film/bit of TV. Fireworks on TV at midnight, then bed.

orangewasp · 26/12/2025 22:37

Make a nice, proper meal and have with a half bottle of champagne. Then either watch a good film (chosen in advance) or do start researching holidays. Be in bed before midnight.

Aimtodobetter · 26/12/2025 22:38

I’ll have two young kids in bed and I’ll be sleeping. Couldn’t be happier for that to be my NYE. (I do have a nice lunch with a friend but it’s sheer coincidence that it’s that day).

LOVE the sound of this spa! I wonder if I can find somewhere similar.

Go to bed early - new year doesn’t mean anything to me, it just symbolises the end of the holidays and everything going back to normal.

I'll be here with my husband. I'm expecting a quiet night, and bed by 10pm. Why do you think couples will be living it up?

I HATE NYE with a passion (grew up in Edinburgh where there were EXPECTIONS of what you'd do on NYE).

Most years we are in bed before the bells.

Friendlygingercat · 27/12/2025 00:14

I have a friend (not a bf) coming over for the early part of the evening until about 9.00. We will have a nice meal and a couple of glasses of wine before he goes. He doesnt drive so will have to walk and I want him to get home safely. I will probably rihg at midnight and we will talk as we watch fireworks froma round the world. Pretty low key but I am old so thats how I like it.

purplecorkheart · 27/12/2025 00:38

Nice canape style dinner with wine. Some new series on tv/netflix. Decent pj's so I can go out and see the fireworks display that I can watch from my garden instead of where it is officially displayed. Hopefully my neighbour will call over with a glass of processo and snacks.

Catholica · 27/12/2025 00:42

I’m envious, op. My perfect new year would be an early night and then wake up early feeling good and ready for the new year. I love a party but something about NYemeans it’s always less fun than you think.

TheTowerAtMidnight · 27/12/2025 00:43

I don't know yet, but I'm jealous of everyone who's saying they'll be asleep. Round here everyone lets off fireworks and it's really noisy until well after 1am. So no chance of sleeping through the new year!

Pozz · 27/12/2025 00:54

I used to love NYE when I was younger. But I couldn’t care less about it now. However for DD and DH I will stay up and see the new year in.

Ideally I’d like to celebrate New Year’s Day instead. Go for a walk, get the family round for bacon sarnies or have lunch out. Just that really. Nobody else is interested though as they are jaded from a night of drinking. 🥴

This. There was a time when a new year meant something special but not any more.

Igmum · 27/12/2025 09:12

I’m another early night person but fascinated by some of these ideas, might well do that myself on another weekend 😀
