Hi
had ads popping up for velvetisers and they looks great! Never used one but they seem to be simple enough.

Salter one is on offer for £30 at the moment - worth getting it for Xmas week as all the kids will be home so sure it’ll be well used for this week at least!

any feedback or any other recommendations for a cheap is one pls?

The Hotel Chocolat one was on dd’s Christmas list but as I’ve bought her another big present I got a Blaupunkt frother from B&M for £20 as an extra. If she likes it I can buy the other for her birthday but it seems a lot of money if this B&M one does the job.

I've got the Dualit one and use it probably every other day in the autumn and winter. It's just so quick and fuss free. I've had it for about 4 years I think, and it's been used so much it's possibly on its last year due to wear. It's also pretty small, so I just pop it in the cupboard when I'm not using it.

It doesn't get hot hot, but perfect temp to drink immediately - or I warm the cup first like a PP said.

Will definitely replace when it dies. Have saved money in the long run as I almost never buy a hot chocolate when I'm out any more (and that was always my go-to)

Seagroves · 21/12/2025 15:53

I’ve also got the Hot Chocolat one. I always preheat the mug with boiling water though to keep it hotter. Their salted caramel and clementine sachets are delicious (I love chocolate orange).
The kids use a regular Options powder and love it as it froths it up.
Very easy to clean, takes little space and it quiet when in use.

Sittingonthestairs · 21/12/2025 15:56

Love ours , use it all the time.
The sachets that come with it are luxurious but too rich to use constantly - we just put hot chocolate powder in it and makes smooth perfect temp chocolate.
Very easy to clean.

Oooo yes the Hotel Chocolat salted caramel is lovely!

I use mine every single day. I use Kenco latte sachets in the morning to make a coffee for my journey to work and during winter it’s used at least ones a day for hot chocolates. I’m going to upgrade mine to the new one which does cold drinks as well. I am a nightmare for buying useless kitchen gadgets but this is one of the best things I’ve ever purchased

TheBigBagBabes · 21/12/2025 16:00

Oh and for the hot chocolates we use Tesco chocolate flakes from the drinks aisle

OSTMusTisNT · 21/12/2025 16:01

Got one for xmas 2 years ago with all the hotel chocolat stuff. Can't be doing with it and think every one of the flavours tastes gritty.

RusticChips · 21/12/2025 16:03

I have the Dualit one, I’ve had it about 14 years we don’t use it daily but have used it a lot, it has been camping with us and once was fully submerged in a bowl of washing up water after a few days in the own cupboard still works fine, i mostly just put a small amount of milk in for a fluffy coffee top It’s been very much value for money.

JBJ · 21/12/2025 16:05

I have a cheap version which I use a lot to heat/froth milk for coffee. I only like milky coffee and was fed up with it making a mess in the microwave!

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 21/12/2025 16:05

I use mine a lot. Strictly speaking, Mr Furniture uses it, as after-dinner drinks are firmly a blue job in our house. Its a piece of cake to use, the hot chocolate is really nice, and I like that it's the right temperature to drink.

clippysip · 21/12/2025 16:06

It looks nice but I don't use it much. It never gets the chocolate hot enough and I get better results from making the hot chocolate in a little pan with a milk frothier. I'm also dubious about the plastic bits inside it leaching into my drinks. I need to give it away to be honest.

I love a hot chocolate and my mum has been desperate to buy me a velvetiserr for years.

I don't want one, it'd take up space and doesn't look that easy to clean.

I used to microwave milk then use one of those mini electric whisks which worked well. Dh bought a tumbler type milk heater/frother so now I use that.

Do you have a link to the tumbler thing please?

BrewDawgg · 21/12/2025 16:36

I love mine

SisyphusDad · 21/12/2025 16:43

Yes. (Takes another sip of his hot chocolate with hazelnut liqueur in it)

We've had one for a couple of years and it gets used pretty much every day (except scorching summer or course).

Cars4Gov · 21/12/2025 16:48

Had ours around 4 years and it's used every day for frothing milk for cappuccino. Definitely easy to clean however the Velvetiser is small so you would have to rinse out for multiple people.

It seems more expensive than it should be so other brands might be better value.

WouldYouRetire · 21/12/2025 16:50

never used it

MaarvaCarassi · 21/12/2025 16:52

We don’t use ours a lot, but we do use it every year on Bonfire night, and then around Christmas as well, so it feels a bit like a special thing

FerrisWheelsandLilacs · 21/12/2025 16:52

My Hotel Chocolat one is 3 or 4 years old now and gets used most days. We use it for iced coffees in summer and as a milk frother for lattes and I have a mocha from it 1-2 a week.

It’s one of our most used appliances.

But I used to get hot chocolate from the hotel chocolat cafe 2-3 times a week before they started selling the velvetisers, so I knew in advance I’d definitely get use out of it. It’s still not quite as good as the cafe though, but even using hotel chocolat sachets I’m saving ££.

Wonderknicks · 21/12/2025 17:15

I couldn't drink hot chocolate every day or if be the size of a house. I do have a dualit milk frother which I use for hot frothy milk for my coffee & the occasional hot chocolate. I can't see how a £150 one could be any better.

youalright · 21/12/2025 17:18

I have the hotel chocolat one and use it all the time and had it a few years now

RainyDaysAndGlumDays · 21/12/2025 17:20

We received the Hotel Chocolat one as a gift. It is in use daily, for hot chocolate for the children (which was especially good when they were younger as they could make it themselves) or to do the milk for my latte.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 21/12/2025 17:24

We use it all the time. So easy to clean.

familyissues12345 · 21/12/2025 17:27

Yeah love mine. I only really use it during the colder months, I buy the chocolate shavings from M&S, not the cheapest (£6) but the box lasts a while.

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 21/12/2025 17:27

I’ve got one of the copper ones and it looks really nice on the counter. It could make drinks a bit hotter but I always let hot drinks cool down anyway and it makes lovely oat milk matcha lattes so I like it.
