Middle aged spread - what to do?

Was just looking at this photo of myself and I am a bit alarmed by this tummy pooch. I'm at a fairly low weight, but I am sure my middle used to be more slender. Or are my clothes unflattering? Should I be doing more core work?

Oh. I just clicked on the photo properly and can see the Adams Apple others have referred to…

Is this photo actually you OP?

What Adam's Apple?

The face/neck area in the photo looks just mighty ... weird.

Op, you look very slim indeed in that photo, please stop worrying.

Why do people keep repeating 'pooch' (a cutesy/irritating word for a dog)? Do you mean paunch or pouch perhaps?!

KingfisherBluey · 19/12/2025 17:59

You are not middle aged judging from that photo.
You've not got a 'pooch' ( think you mean pouch or paunch?)
It's an odd photo and would be interesting to do an image search of it online.
Any chance you've used a stock image and not actually you?

If you have thin calves, DUO boots come in narrow calf sizes.

KingfisherBluey · 19/12/2025 18:05

If you think you have a tummy, just cut back on whatever you eat and you'll lose 2-3 lbs off your tummy in no time at all. Works for me:)

radiatordrama · 19/12/2025 18:14

I am looking up at the tall man with the apparently strangely sized hands. So my neck is extended. That is not an Adams apple 😅

You have a lovely figure OP. There is much worse middle aged spread to com so please enjoy being trim while you are!

gandeysflipflop · 19/12/2025 18:28

You taking the piss op. middle age spread, where? I thought it was a photo of you from about 20 years ago and you've since piled on the weight. im a UK size 8 but you look slimmer than me. ffs

Calliopespa · 19/12/2025 18:50

Have you got some others op you can post.

Presumably if it was an engagement shoot they took several in the same outfit and location but different poses.

We can then comment better on the tummy situation, avoid the neck fixation and you can silence those saying its a stock image.

radiatordrama · 19/12/2025 18:53

Here is one at home before the shoot. My phone wouldn't let me crop the bottom for some reason

Nice photos for the doubters, I like your style.

Yes, good job! That clears that up.

I think even here you can see the skirt fabric is thick and it's sitting out from your body. That's why you feel thicker round the middle than usual but you probably didn't see the side view until the photos.

If you are old enough to call yourself middle aged then you are too old to wear that outfit. Not that I know much about fashion but it looks to me like a very young person's look, 20s or 30s.

Oh, come on! I'm in my 50s and would wear it - I've got a skirt very similar to that. I haven't lived 50 odd years on this paltry planet to let myself be dictated to by silly ideas about what you can and can't wear in middle age.

I’m 56 and live in mini skirts and boots, it’s my look.

Your skirt looks much longer in that photo than in the first one.

TBH if that is a zip at the front of the skirt they often bulge, even if there is no fat tummy underneath.

I think it's the angle. My fiancé is very tall and so he would have been taking the photo from a higher angle. But also, maybe the skirt rode up or something over the day?

I have to say I do agree with this op.

It's a lot of drama over choosing the wrong outfit.

Alexadidzammomarryjackie · 19/12/2025 23:30

If that's actually you, I would not consider you to have 'middle age spread'. I would query how your thyroid is, however.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 20/12/2025 02:01

@Forever1973 @Christmaseree fair enough I stand corrected!! I'm really not someone to take fashion or style advice from anyways

KingfisherBluey · 20/12/2025 08:49

Look at yourself naked in the mirror @radiatordrama If you see a tummy bulge that is just fat, and you don't like it, cut down on food and lose 2 lbs. It's that easy.

You don't need a photo to tell you about your body.

MMAS · 20/12/2025 20:31

As a AI BOT you look normal - one for the DM to pick-up on no doubt and have an article off the comments.

SpinandSing · 20/12/2025 21:07

Honestly, you have an amazing figure! This is not a pooch. This is just where your flipping female reproductive system is. And I say this as a petite woman in her mid-40's...I'm v conscious about this kind of thing too but it's really quite silly. I bet the full picture looks incredible. Just focus on the joy and stop over-analysing. You also have great legs and will love these pics in years to come.
