Lord Wolfson KC, the shadow attorney-general in the House of Lords , is representing Roman Abramovich in a legal case that is delaying the transfer of £2.5bn of assets to benefit the people of Ukraine.

That's the price we pay to not be Russia.

Sir Idris Elba 😀

And Russian losses in Ukraine to close to half a million to quibble over.

The honour for Hilary McGrady from the National Trust has upset the rw papers

OP posts:
placemats · 30/12/2025 12:23

There has to be a conflict of interest in Wolfson taking on the case. Did the sainted Kemi give her approval?

Notonthestairs · 30/12/2025 12:24

McGrady has overseen a rise in fundraising.
She's received death threats for her efforts.

I'm a member and have been a long time and any change to our local NT properties have been so minor that I haven't noticed them. My Dad and FIL are not members but read the Telegraph but have informed me repeatedly that amongst other things the NT has cancelled Christmas etc. When challenged with evidence to the contrary they admit they've only read the headlines.

What's with all the 'dear labour voter' threads?

Here is an idea from the US that you'll never see over here

What's with all the 'dear labour voter' threads?

No idea but I’m having great fun on two of them. One particularly is populated by fantasists.

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/12/2025 17:56

I’m enjoying them a lot. I am going to have to make a NY resolution to avoid them though.

PandoraSocks · 30/12/2025 17:59

I just had a peek. Mind blowing. Labour were voted out in 1990, but caused the 2008 global financial crash.

I am guessing a wormhole has opened up somewhere and we are being visited by posters from an alternate timeline.

There’s certainly some amnesia.

Suspect the usual suspects and don't engage.

I liked the blame Ed Miiliband for Brexit and there were no parties one😂

Always good to recognise namechangers

Ed Miliband said on a BBC TV debate with Cameron that a referendum to leave the EU was a very bad because of the consequences of the result was to leave. Cameron poo pooed it and said he believed the result would be to remain.

DuncinToffee · 30/12/2025 20:21

Doesn't matter placemats, the resident beleaver on the brexit thread for example keeps blaming the Lib Dems in the same fashion.

No leaver wants to take responsibility for the success that Brexit is Grin

Notonthestairs · 31/12/2025 08:35

"No leaver wants to take responsibility for the success that Brexit is "
Aint that the truth.

The wild success of Brexit is in no way connected to Farage/the ERG/JRM/Gove/Johnson/Steve Brexit Hard Man Baker/Francois/John Hayes/The Telegraph/Mail/Dyson/Paul Marshall/IEA etc or any of the other fuckers that lobbied and campaigned for decades.

In fact they'd like you to trust them one more time...

I would have an ounce of respect for those who supported Brexit if they acknowledged it has been economic harm for the UK. None of those mentioned do so.

I think David Cameron was not alone in expecting a remain vote.

placemats · 31/12/2025 10:26

It was a gamble though @LlynTegid that Miliband would not have taken had he won the election.

Cambridge Analytica was certainly the driving force behind the leave campaign

PandoraSocks · 31/12/2025 10:27

I have just watched Farage's New Year message. Basically Reform is Britain's last chance for people who wear watches and have digital assets and want to spout hate on SM. Oh and the government is cancelling elections and is beginning to take way people's right to vote. But at the same time most of the elections are going ahead and we should all vote Reform on May 7th. Then Reform will win the GE and save us all

There was a nice little bit at the end acknowledging the Royal Parks giving permission to film. Is Charlie boy a secret Reform supporter after all?

Farage was dressed in a very retro outfit. Almost 1930ish vibes.

itsgettingweird · 31/12/2025 10:38

Oh yeah please vote for us in the elections that Labour have cancelled - only problem with the statement is most people won’t see how non sensical this is.

Piggywaspushed · 31/12/2025 10:41

Wear watches, what now?

I am actually a bit worried. Farage is a really good communicator and people who are of a certain disposition politically will continue to fall for his lies.

I think we are all looking at it the wrong way.

We need to look at it Nigels way.

Nigel said : "If Brexit is a failure, I will leave the UK"

Nigel is still here, ergo (or as he would say "quod erat demonstradum, mein fuhrer") Brexit is not a failure.

(Of course that train of logic only works if you assume that success and failure are simple opposites with no shades in between. I suspect Nigels rebuttal would be that Brexit hasn't been the sort of success he was looking for.)
