1 could be American Samoa. It's a blue background with a white triangle (maybe 'triangle of blue takes flight' means a blue rectangular shape isn't there. The white triangle contains an eagle (which links to 'take flight') and there's a narrow red stripe between the white and blue.

9 could also possibly be Indonesia

Good point. It's not known as Swaziland any more, it's now Eswatini. So that would be an E not an S.

Is "Find links and guess" part of the clue and not just an instruction? Using the initial letters of each country seems too easy.

Haha, no nothing like that. We did end up using a GCHQ puzzle book to solve one of them in a previous year though. My company just happens to employ two evil puzzle masters who hate me and want me to suffer.
