I think it's missing a clue - the last two are SA (not AS) and if there was one more to make SAW, the answer would be Chain.

As as a clue didn't convince me but I didn't click it could be a partial clue and Verity got the link from the two words.

9 could be Monaco - top half of flag is red, bottom half is white. (The opposite of the Polish flag.)
