My two year old had a tantrum in a Conga line

Went to a little kids concert yesterday which culminated in a conga line. All fine until we lost DH and DS1 ahead. Two year old DD fell to the ground in outrage, big queue of people behind us, can’t go round because of people coming in the other direction. Event ended in chaos. I kept trying to pick her up but was worried about her kicking someone by accident. Mortification.

it isn’t just me, right

Your toddler op

springintoaction2 · 07/12/2025 08:14

😂

Aye - the terrible two's - not fun but sometimes funny x

Strictlycomeparent · 07/12/2025 08:15

That is going to be a spectacular family story. Even the title feels poetic!

Sorry you had a rough time. It’s hard when your kids are not managing well ina situation but extracting them quietly isn’t possible. I’m sure more parents will have been there. I have an autistic child so definitely have been!

Oh dear lord, what idiot thought a conga at an event likely to include toddlers was a good idea?

I expect the other parents were thinking ‘just glad it’s not mine this time’.

Coconutter24 · 07/12/2025 09:03

Surely you pick the child up and move away from the line?

landlordhell · 07/12/2025 09:05

What’s the issue? Standard 2 year old behaviour. Pick them up and get out of the line surely?

rainyrainywinter · 07/12/2025 09:08

Yes, if I wanted a load of people to be kicked in the face.

Overthebow · 07/12/2025 09:10

Why wouldn’t you just pick her up and move out of the way? Hold her legs so she can’t kick them and you’d be out of the way in a few seconds.

Dozer · 07/12/2025 09:11

2yo was not being unreasonable!

ErrolTheDragon · 07/12/2025 09:14

The posters blithely asserting it’s always possible to restrain a thrashing 2 yo must be a lot stronger than I am.Confused

So you block the way and cause chaos? If you can’t keep a 2 year old from kicking their legs people would of seen that and dodged them

I’d also put her in a party dress and it was very pretty but silky sort of material so hard to hold her 🤣

NEVER AGAIN!

@Coconutter24 it was actually in a cathedral with very narrow aisles and nowhere for people to dodge

but <sigh> it was an attempt to be lighthearted

merry Christmas

My DS is quite a big and strong toddler but in situations like this I scoop him up and run him out of the way. It takes a few seconds even when thrashing around, I don’t see the problem. You wouldn’t just leave a toddler to tantrum in the middle of everyone and ruin the dance.

Inspiremeaholiday · 07/12/2025 09:18

Oh no, you had put her in a slippery seal material? That’s the worst!
OP this story will live on for years. My DD has one at a restaurant in Cyrus Ana it still gets told regularly where we all laugh!

Aha that wasn’t clear from your op. Hence the responses

Then you should of been clearer in your OP that it was lighthearted because that’s not what came across

Slothey · 07/12/2025 09:50

I get the ‘slippery dress’ thing. Normally I can restrain my toddler, but last weekend she went nuclear while in the park in the rain. She was wearing a puddle suit, me a raincoat, both soaking and slippery. It was honestly dangerous to pick her up while she writhed.

You need to be explicitly told that a tantrum in a conga line is lighthearted? Ahah

itsgettingweird · 07/12/2025 09:55

I’m trained in restraint and train safe restraint.

I can restrain big angry men.

But a toddler in a silky party dress in a narrow cathedral aisle in the middle of a conga line - probably not so much 🤣🤣.

OP this will be a great story to tell in future years!

Yes… I guess on damp December Sunday mornings some people wake up without their sense of humour fully engaged.

dont worry op, some of us got the situation!
