My two year old had a tantrum in a Conga line

Went to a little kids concert yesterday which culminated in a conga line. All fine until we lost DH and DS1 ahead. Two year old DD fell to the ground in outrage, big queue of people behind us, can’t go round because of people coming in the other direction. Event ended in chaos. I kept trying to pick her up but was worried about her kicking someone by accident. Mortification.

it isn’t just me, right

Yes… I guess on damp December Sunday mornings some people wake up without their sense of humour fully engaged.

dont worry op, some of us got the situation!

Crazy how people take everything thing so seriously. The conga protestor was 2 years old! 2!

Yes, if I wanted a load of people to be kicked in the face.

When i have picked up a toddler who’s having a meltdown, no one has ever been kicked in the face. People tend to step back from tantrumming toddlers in my experience. Swoop on, pick her up swiftly, walk away with her.

Boo hoo hoo, come on and do the conga…

I thought the last Conga was performed about 20 years ago

You need to be explicitly told that a tantrum in a conga line is lighthearted? Ahah

Judging by the responses I’m not the only one, so yes it wasn’t clear it was lighthearted

That’s fine. You’re a much better parent than I am; I’m clearly crap and can only look to your excellent example. Sorry. It was still quite funny though.

Really? That’s worrying. Why would you think it was serious? It was a two year old at a social event protesting, it’s really common and no big deal at all. Did you not picture it and see the humour?

@Yourethebeerthiefjust snorted my coffee thanks 😂

rainyrainywinter · 07/12/2025 10:02

To be fair, I did manage to pick her up and move her. It took a few attempts though. And as is always the case felt like we were there forever but it probably only took a minute or so.

I realise most of MN would have had the situation impeccably under control. We have all lost sight of what a normal conga line looks like, I fear.

Pretty chaotic at the best of times if there are small kids in it!😂

Everyone would find it challenging to remove a toddler mid tantrum from an active Congo line from a narrow aisle op. Sure you handled it as well as you could.

I think you win the thread ‘title of the month’ award!!

And then, even better, you mention it happened in a cathedral 🤣🤣. Absolute joy.

I still remember, as a seventies/eighties kid, conga lines ending every celebration. I’m so happy the tradition is continuing 🤪.

Cathmawr · 07/12/2025 10:12

OP this is a contender for best tantrum location ever. My DD2 had a tantrum in Santa's grotto yesterday because she didn't like the look of him. The children waiting to enter looked a bit concerned that she was being carried out crying 🤣

Edited to add- luckily no silky party dress present so I could just about get a grip on the little wriggler!

user2848502016 · 07/12/2025 10:14

Everyone who’s ever had a toddler would have been sympathising (while finding it a little amusing).

No I don’t picture it and see the humour, I pictured it as OP described it. Which didn’t sound fun in any sort of way 🤷‍♀️

DuchessofStaffordshire · 07/12/2025 10:18

Spectacular!
That's made my day.

EleanorReally · 07/12/2025 10:19

isnt a toddler a bit short for a congo?

Ok. Maybe lighten up a bit then. Not sure what to say. It’s a conga line not an international trade conference.

EchoedSilence · 07/12/2025 10:22

How funny. You will get flashbacks to your 2 year olds conga protest if you should ever encounter a conga line again 🤣

BauhausOfEliott · 07/12/2025 12:17

Coconutter24 · 07/12/2025 09:36

Then you should of been clearer in your OP that it was lighthearted because that’s not what came across

It came across to me.

Ermmm… well done 👏
