What on earth is a Labubu?

My child has asked for one for Christmas. What are they? They look like expensive, furry wastes of space 😂

Any suggestions for a cheap option, suitable for a 7 year old boy?

Thank you in advance

Aren’t they about £12? Edit: sorry just checked, seems like the price has gone up massively due to their success! Wow. Good luck OP, I think it’s best to get the real deal if possible, it’s the cool thing to have more than anything!

TheGriffle · 02/12/2025 22:58

You can get fake ones for a few £’s on Aliexpress if you’re happy to buy from there. Most cheap ones on eBay etc will be from there or similar.

Dullday · 02/12/2025 23:00

They are the spawn of Satan and I'm glad my kids are grown as I couldn't cope with one in the house. I'd worry it would leap out from under the bed and eat my feet.

The fake ones don't tend to meet UK safety standards, I wouldn't give one to a 7 year old!!

Maddy70 · 02/12/2025 23:02

Watch South park :)

ForLoveNotMoney · 02/12/2025 23:03

I’ll get him a real one. He’s only asked for 1 thing and then this, so it’s fine, I just don’t know what they are (other than creepy looking!)

Ugly little troll type things. Hard to get unless things have improved. The queues outside Popmart to get them are crazy. I think they may have introduced a new ticketing system. Not sure.

Kickinthenostalgia · 02/12/2025 23:09

The real ones are 49.99… they are the creepiest ugliest things that have ever trended.

ADHDHDHDHD · 02/12/2025 23:12

Expensive furry waste of space is EXACTLY what they are.

Okiedokie123 · 02/12/2025 23:21

Aren’t they just an (ugly) soft toy? And a trend that will be over in a short while.
I would explain to him how much they are (and how boring!) and help him explore options that are fun and will actually entertain him. Eg Lego, art stuff, toys he can play with!

Arlanymor · 02/12/2025 23:22

Ugly shit piece of fluff with teeth that will be in the bin by March.

ADHDHDHDHD · 02/12/2025 23:42

In the future when they are excavating the landfill sites. They are really going to wonder about us- cabbage patch dolls AND labubu? Were these people mad? Yes. Yes they were.

Applesinapie · 02/12/2025 23:45

You might find it hard to get a real one. I’ve just got my dd a fake one for her bday, she’s convinced it’s real. She also won one in a fair and she’s delighted- apparently it’s real and a rare one (it’s neither but she’s none the wiser). I wouldn’t spend £50 ish on one when you can a fake one (a lafufu) for under a tenner

No they're not! They are about 20 quid...the coke ones are 26.

OP - if you're on tiktok then keep an eye on the pop mart uk live shop, they are often on there. Much quicker delivery than the popmart website and easier to get. There are different types...we have one of each, the only ones I wouldn't rate are the "pin for love".

Please don't pay over the odds on other sites as they aren't worth 50 quid!

mondaytosunday · 02/12/2025 23:56

Yea well trends. I remember the Cabbage Patch doll craze and thought they were really ugly.

Your comment pinged an old memory. My parents must have sent my cabbage patch dolls to landfill! I do have 3 huge cardboard boxes of Beanies Babies etc in the loft so at least some things survived!

Missey85 · 02/12/2025 23:59

Their little monster toys from Asia I have more than I need and have started buying clothes for them! 😂😂 I'd get knock off ones for your child they won't notice the difference ❤️

No, they aren’t!

I got mine on the pop Mart website @ForLoveNotMoney for £18.00 I think, the other week.
They are hard to get hold of though, but I signed up to their site and was notified when they came back in stock. I managed to get them but they do go out of stock really quickly.

LemonLadybird · 03/12/2025 00:35

Hi OP, they retail for £18, they’re quite easy to get off the POPMART TikTok lives these days (1pm-6pm)

Another option is you can get real ones off Vinted for around £12-£18 as the fad has died down a lot now. Most people are searching for the “secret” labubu so end up selling any duplicates they get, usually under retail. The “Big into Energy” series of Labubu is probably the best option for a 7 year old boy as the colours are cool and funky, especially the blue and greens. Hope this helps!

ForLoveNotMoney · 03/12/2025 00:55

Thank you all so much. I appreciate it. Vinted or fake it is!

BusterGonad · 03/12/2025 01:14

I wouldn't go fake if I were you, as a child they will want the real thing and it will be embarrassing if they have an obvious fake. Something they may remember.

Pryceosh1987 · 03/12/2025 02:17

A transformer toy would do the boy well. he would love it.

MyChristmasCheerHasBuggeredOff · 03/12/2025 02:27

Dont get a fake. They are terrible and can be a health hazard... Shop at popmart for a real one

Salvadoridory · 03/12/2025 02:39

Getting a fake for Christmas is embarrassing and mean. The whole point with trends is that you feel you belong to something. I like them, I have loads, the blind box is fun and I have sold a few rare ones for hundreds. Bloody hell I would rather buy a strangers kid a real one than make them have a fake one. The realness is part of the coolness. Remember cool? 7 year old kids dont have the world on their shoulders, they are allowed to be frivolous.

They were in game for 49.99… unless they hadn’t marked them down..
