Easy veggie starter Christmas?

Any ideas for a light, make ahead or quick starter? Not soup. If it could be adapted for meat eaters, bonus points!

The vital question is, what's the main course? No point suggesting starters that won't go with it, or will.duplicate it.

Nut roast for the veggies, turkey and ham for the carnivores, traditional veg

That famous vegetarian ingredient - trout.

Crostini with pear, blue cheese and walnut or ditch the crostini and serve it as a salad. Nice with a drizzle of honey.

Tomato and mozarella stacks

Veg sticks and dips

Feta, baby tom and olive mini kebabs.

Egg mayonnaise - on a bed of lettuce with paprika sprinkled on top. My favourite!

Bruschetta of choice

I like these ideas very much!

this is my first year being vegetarian but DH has been for years. I usually make him blinis with beetroot and whipped feta while we had smoked salmon blinis. Also love quail eggs with celery salt.

Seeing lots of cheese based suggestions here.

Doesn't most brie and camembert contain animal rennet though? And is therefore not suitable for many/most vegetarians. The info on most supermarket sites says "suitable for vegetarians" but then when you look at the ingredients is says they contain animal rennet. I had to look into this recently for a guest.

My user name on the other hand ....

I'd just do half an avocado with blue cheese dressing and a rocket and walnut salad on the side. You can add prawns for the non-veggies. Quick and easy.

The link is for a whole menu. Trout is the main course. First course (obviously what's being recommended here) is Burrata with marinated blood orange, hazelnut and crisp kale. Sounds very nice.

I don’t think you can go wrong with a mushroom pâté. Unless you hate mushrooms of course.

I like the pear, blue cheese and walnut salad, and the blinis with beetroot and feta. The second is useful because can have salmon for the non veggies

I like melon and DH has mushroom pate. I don't want anything too heavy for a starter.
