Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, in silence. Well, the washer's on for work stuff and uniform, so not quite silence! The cats have been down for breakfast, left most of it, and are now bounding about upstairs.

I'll shift shortly to get my tablets, and to wash the few pots there are.

I'm off to town today, with dd2, to look for a new coat for her, and do a bit of Christmas shopping. The coat must be black, and must have no fluff...dead easy to find 🤔. We'll probably stop off for a coffee and cake while we're out.

When we get in, I'll find something easy for tea, get a shower and probably settle down with my book for a while before bed 💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning morning
Been up, well first, because when the other three have stuff to do early obviously I have to get up first!
So am on coffee x2.
Driving lesson has been completed, the chasing of muddy ball is presently happening.

Then I have been informed we have 6 teenagers to feed this evening as it's a DND session here. So they are having beef shin/pickled walnut stew.

Obviously have a round of washing, but was on it last night and hung the jumpers/trousers out and shirts just dried.

So feeding hungry teen boys is what I am doing today.

I am assuming I need to make a pudding that goes with custard. Apple crumble?

frozendaisy · 22/11/2025 09:24

And eldest needs a new coat that goes over a thick hoodie "well don't you think we need to go and try them on with the hoodie then?" (honestly how they get dressed sometimes is a total mystery)

JingsMahBucket · 22/11/2025 09:30

Morning @lucysmam ! That’s a fun day out for you and your daughter. Where are you shopping for coats? I need to get a new puffer jacket but a lot of colours seem quite drab right now. No matter what, wrap up tightly because it’s freezing out!

It’s been a while since I’ve been on these threads and I can feel my weekends drifting away and being unproductive. I’m currently snuggled in bed but I’ll get up soon to make the American fluffy pancakes I promised my husband I’d make him. 🙂

After that, I’ll clean the kitchen, run the dishwasher, and clean the toilets. The fridge needs clearing out too and I’ll meal plan to use up any food that’s on the turn.

During the afternoon I’ll plan out my next week’s schedule and do some client work then a bit of art time. Dinner will likely be the lentil soup my husband made last night.

First things first: get out of bed and turn the heating on! It’s 14.2 in the bedroom!

Have a nice and warm Saturday, everyone!

TragicTess · 22/11/2025 09:32

We are all going to see Radiohead tonight so can’t wait to see DD who is at Uni.

Simonjt · 22/11/2025 09:33

Good morning, its rugby dad saturday here, 0° with a windchill, I’ve forgotten my foam matt to stand on so my feet are very cold.

Once rugby is done we’re all meeting in town for lunch, small number two is at swimming right now with her Papa. It’s also her turn to pick where we eat, so she’s almost guaranteed to pick a garden centre as it has those kids box meals where you can pick the bits you want.

This afternoon our daughter has a birthday party to go to, so we also need to pick a little present for that while we’re out.

I’m (begrudingly) going to a wicked double bill with my husband tonight, so his Great Granny and little brother are coming over to look after the kids.

Have a lovely saturday everyone.

lucysmam · 22/11/2025 09:44

@JingsMahBucket I have no idea where we're looking for a coat 🤷‍♀️. Every clothes shop in town, probably!

Topsy44 · 22/11/2025 09:44

Currently snuggled under a blanket with 4 layers on and DCat is snoring next to me.

Had a new boiler installed on Monday but the old pump couldn’t cope with it so no hot water and heater and freezing here at the moment! Heating company have said engineer will come over tomorrow to sort it so fingers crossed!

Off out shortly with DD13 to get her phone fixed (yet again) as she dropped it last week and if it’s not raining this afternoon we will go for a cycle(DD)/walk(me).

Then will do a quick run round with the Hoover, clean bathroom and kitchen before settling down to watch Strictly with an easy tea of pizza and garlic bread.

Good morning everyone. Dh has today off work so we were both awake by 7.15am but have done absolutely nothing so far and neither of us are dressed yet. I put the final load of washing in this morning and we’ve just put the Tesco delivery away. Dd11 is still asleep and I’ve just put some pain au chocolate in the oven for her breakfast as I assume she’ll be awake soon.

We need to get moving soon as dh needs to pick his coats up from the dry cleaners, drop dd11 off at dsis’ house as she’s staying there overnight and we need to be on the train to get into town for 1pm as we’re away in a b&b for the night for dh’s best friend’s birthday. There’s a group of 7 of us going out for dinner and drinks and we’re meeting up early so I’m not looking forward to tomorrow’s hangover!

BobLobla · 22/11/2025 09:49

DH has a cold and back ache. Think it must be a strain no one has ever suffered before as it’s so severe. But luckily I’ve had a running commentary since I woke up so I’m fully informed.
However I’m off to visit DD2 at university after lunch for some Christmas mooching and cinema tonight. Cocktails and staying the night - hurrah! Leaving Funtime Fontaine at home with the dogs.

DilemmaDelilah · 22/11/2025 09:51

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

it's COLD so I am staying bodily wrapped up in bed with 2 electric hot water bottles at the moment. However, shortly I will haul myself out of my nice warm bed and do some sorting out in the spare room to get it ready for daughter no. 2's visit on Thursday. Yes - I am aware that I could use abbreviations but I prefer not to - and quite frankly I think it is easier to read without them so I'm going to continue that way!

Mr Dilemma has already been out to look in the shed freezer for some liver for supper this evening. He didn't find any so we're having meatloaf instead, with mash and cabbage. For some reason it is proving impossible to buy sweetheart (hispi) cabbages at the moment, so we're having savoy, which I am less keen on.

I have a dark wash ready to go on, so Mr Dilemma will pop that in the machine when he is dressed. (He went outside in his dressing gown... He is made of sterner stuff than I!) When he came upstairs I broke the news to him that today was spare room sorting day.... He wasn't thrilled. However I have a bundle of clothes I sorted out last weekend that need taking to the charity shop and we need more milk and some bread, so I expect he will duck out of spare room duties to deal with those, which will make him feel virtuous and be useful for me, so I will forgive him for that. The bed is basically made - the room looks a tip but there really isn't that much to do in there. Our holiday suitcases need putting away, there is a pile of clean laundry to put away, there are some Amazon boxes to get rid of from when I was doing the Christmas present wrapping, there is the pile of clothes for charity, the laundry basket needs to be removed and then it's just a bit of cleaning and hoovering.

As most of you probably know... I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 and have had a mastectomy and all the acute treatment, just putting up with the on going treatment at the moment.... BUT... last night I thought I might have felt a lump in my remaining boob. It's difficult to tell as I have a couple of fibroadenomas in that breast, plus some scar tissue from the removal of a (benign) phyllodes tumour 18 years ago, so it's probably nothing.. but I'm going to do a proper feel-around shortly and I will contact the follow-up team if I'm still worried. I will do that when Mr Dilemma is out as he panics. Of course I will tell him if there is anything to tell him, but there's no point in worrying him - and making my life very much more uncomfortable - if it's nothing. So - I'm telling you lot instead, and getting it off my chest. I'm due for another CT in December anyway but I won't wait if I find something. Sorry to derail the point of this thread!

It's going to be lovely to see youngest daughter and Houdini...I have managed to arrange family lunch as well so we should have eldest daughter and her family there too. I saw my sisters on Thursday, and I'm hoping to see a cousin in a few weeks when I go to hear chorister grandson sing in The Messiah at the cathedral. I'm going with eldest daughter and we have front row seats, so it will be really nice. I will have to wrap up very warm though.... as it is absolutely freezing in there in the winter! So - it's a lovely family-filled month for me.

Tangerinesattack · 22/11/2025 09:56

Morning all.

Long weekend here for us all. I'm still having to take things very easy as I've been unwell and signed off work for the past 2 weeks. I'm hoping to go back a week on Monday on a phased basis so I'm enjoying the rest as much as I can.

DH is painting our bathroom ceiling right now and DS is watching rubbish on YouTube. The pancake batter is resting so I'll get on that in a minute. There's a few Christmas / winter events on today so I'll see what DS fancies. He wants to head up to the recycling shop later too, to check for vintage consoles and games. Later on, I'll get some light chores done and then I'll try and get my cross stitch project finished - it's so close!

I think we'll have a chicken and chorizo stew for dinner with some white wine. Have a great day everyone.

lucysmam · 22/11/2025 09:57

@DilemmaDelilah derail away! That's important stuff!! I do hope it's nothing to worry about.

LemonVerbenaGeranium · 22/11/2025 10:01

Morning everyone! Snow is melting here, so we can put up our garden lights and do a final bit of garden maintenance ready for winter. DS is at orchestra this morning, then is going to a friend’s house this afternoon (they are starting a band - thank the Lord it’s not in our house!).

DH is walking the dog, then we’ll blitz some housework before lunch. He’s going to hear a practice of his friend’s piano recital this afternoon, then we all reconvene for pizza for dinner later on. I’m a bit under the weather, so planning a quiet day with books and candles where possible.

Zippedydodah · 22/11/2025 10:02

Good morning @lucysmam &crew, it’s piddling down here, we got soaked on the dogs’ first walk and DH moaned every inch of the way because it was raining 🤷🏼‍♀️ He’s so bloody miserable all the time, frighteningly just like his mother 😵‍💫
I spent yesterday afternoon making a lovely coq au vin for dinner because DH’s sister and her husband are coming….and it tastes absolutely rank. I have no idea why, all the ingredients were freshly bought and well within sell by date, I followed the recipe diligently.
So, that’s in the bin and I’ve sent DH to Sainsbury’s for a replacement meal, just hope he gets back in time because he’s liable to go wandering off and take 4 hours to do something that would take anyone else an hour. It’s only 20 minutes drive if he’s driving.
I have washed my hair and showered, the house is reasonably tidy and there’s homemade lemon cheesecake for pudding.
I’m keeping everything crossed for you @DilemmaDelilah that the lump is nothing to worry about, sending hugs as well. I took a hot water bottle and a blanket to wrap right around me the last time I went to something in a cathedral, it was bitterly cold, gloves, hat the lot! Take a flask of coffee for the interval too!
Anyway, nothing planned for the rest of today or tomorrow, the weather’s miserable so I am going to enjoy my new Phil Rickman Merrily book and drink lots of tea.

morning! I have a Dermatologist appointment this morning . DD’s dad took her to language lesson and later today she has change of belts for the sport she practices . DSis is coming down to watch it- fingers crossed she will make it in time.
Running round trying to get everything ready.

Fedupofthis78 · 22/11/2025 10:12

Having an unusually long lie in this morning and just finishing my coffee that DH brought up. Then up, get some washing in and run round with the Hoover. Today DD1 has some homework to get on with and DD2 has a swim gala which I’ll go to with her. Then when we get back from that it’ll be shower, PJs and chill…

DancingLions · 22/11/2025 10:13

Morning all. Freezing here today. Not planning on leaving the house at all!
Just having a coffee in my PJs. I need to blitz the house today. I’ll also do some diamond painting and embroidery this afternoon.
Cooking dinner for adult DD and myself tonight and we’ll watch a movie with a couple of glasses of wine.

RampantIvy · 22/11/2025 10:14

Baking 80 cupcakes for a charity event while watching Saturday Kitchen
The oven will warm the kitchen nicely.

Livingthedream89 · 22/11/2025 10:20

Morning all! I have been up since 6am for some silly reason. Fit in a workout and now off to watch DS in a very wet football game! My reward for this is brunch later with my friend for her birthday and then strictly this evening. Lovely Saturday 😄

Hope you all have a lovely day whatever you are doing ❤️

Tiddlersfish · 22/11/2025 10:22

Morning all! Poorly DS here so day indoors as it’s meant to be raining all afternoon. Big pre Christmas clear out happening here today then off to some garden centres to buy more Christmas decorations tomorrow.
I’ll have coffee number 3 first then get started

DilemmaDelilah · 22/11/2025 10:24

@lucysmam and @Zippedydodah thank you for your kind thoughts. It's probably nothing, but as anyone who has had a brush with cancer knows (and there are a LOT of us) the fear of recurrence is never very far from the front of our minds.

Our cathedral has a recently built, and very nice, cafe in the cloisters so I intend to go there in the interval. I queued in the cathedral itself for ages last year without getting anywhere near the front of the queue for mulled wine or very indifferent coffee, before scooting down to the cafe for very nice hot chocolate. This time I will go there first!

That first paragraph really made me laugh. DH is sat watching Gardeners World, probably the closest we'll get to the garden today.

It's very damp here but not as cold. Hoping to pop out later for a coffee and a walk. Tonight it will be Strictly and wine.
