Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, in silence. Well, the washer's on for work stuff and uniform, so not quite silence! The cats have been down for breakfast, left most of it, and are now bounding about upstairs.

I'll shift shortly to get my tablets, and to wash the few pots there are.

I'm off to town today, with dd2, to look for a new coat for her, and do a bit of Christmas shopping. The coat must be black, and must have no fluff...dead easy to find 🤔. We'll probably stop off for a coffee and cake while we're out.

When we get in, I'll find something easy for tea, get a shower and probably settle down with my book for a while before bed 💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

Also - Mr Dilemma and I have already done the initial blitz on the spare room so now there is only the cleaning and hoovering and prettifying to do 😁

It’s raining here this weekend, so I’ve got a couple of days off from being the Fence Installation Assistant (passing screws and drills, holding posts while concrete sets, etc). So my plan is to stay warm and cosy indoors.

A bit of housework, one or two loads of washing and plenty of cuddles with the cats - they make excellent foot warmers!

I really need to update my budget spreadsheet as bills keep on blooming rising, but not sure if I’m in the mood for it today. I might do a bit of research later into what shrubs I’d like for a couple of new beds that will go in front of the new fencing. I’m planning on keeping the garden simple so that I don’t end up with lots of things that need different care at different times of the year. I’m leaning towards “hedges” of camellias - evergreen for your-round cover, with a lovely burst of flowers in the spring.

And then I might settle down for a couple of hours diamond painting. I haven’t done any for a while, with all the work that’s been going on outside, and I really want to finish the one I’m working on - a very majestic head/mane shot of a black smoke Maine Coon.

Dinner tonight is going to be a lazy one. A Thai red chicken curry from Cook with some rice and a mini naan bread for mopping up. Along with a glass or two of red and a couple more episodes of The Feud which I’ve just started.

Happy Saturday all.

lucysmam · 22/11/2025 11:00

Looking good @DilemmaDelilah , and didn't take long at all!

@Ijwwm my furry foot warmer kept pinching my hot water bottle last night, then bounding off the bed at the speed of light 🙄. Not the most restful night when he then wanders the house shouting for company when we're all sleeping! It's like he forgets where we are!

I went out at 8am before the rain started to get a paper for my elderly neighbour who has walking problems, about half a mile there & back, been around three times to check she is ok, but still all locked up & curtains & blinds closed,I will phone her if if no movement by 11-30, the rest of the time I have been scrubbing my paving slabs with bleach & fairy liquid in the drizzle.
Taking a coffee break now & reading MN.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 22/11/2025 11:13

Morning all, I was up early as usual, had a coffee and a snuggle with the cat on the sofa, then went and did parkrun. It was wet and windy but I still enjoyed it! Came home and cleaned the kitchen before the Tesco delivery arrived.

I’m about to get up and do my daily yoga practice before making a start on getting the house in a fit state for visitors. I’ve got people coming over tonight to watch strictly as it’s Blackpool week and we are big fans! I’m making a pesto chicken traybake for dinner for everyone, and DD has baked some very indulgent blondies for pudding. I’m really looking forward to it 💃🪩.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 22/11/2025 11:24

Good morning Lucysmam and others. DilemmaDelilah looking good. Flatbellyfella that's very kind of you to think of your neighbour.
I have a rotten cold. It's not COVID because I've checked but I feel pretty rough. This morning I've had breakfast then went to Aldi for food. Back home and I lay down for half an hour then up for a cuppa and a pancake. I'm working up to sorting out the kitchen. This afternoon I have to go to dgs2s birthday party. Fortunately I'm getting a lift. Dinner will be mince and tatties I think. Then an early night. Enjoy your day all

ShipshapeShore · 22/11/2025 11:25

Off to lidl soon then I fancy a real big house blitz. It's feeling a little grubby and it's affecting my mood a bit - housework has been neglected due to my mood so need to break the cycle. I want to sit down later in my new pjs (from M&S because I'm fancy like that 😆) in a nice clean and tidy space.

Town funfair this afternoon. That'll be nice getting soaked and handing over an obscene amount of cash. The DC will be happy though so that'll make it worth it!

Peridot1 · 22/11/2025 11:27

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

Miserable morning here. Been up since early as electrician was supposed to arrive at 8. He pitched up at 8.30. I’ve emptied and reloaded the dishwasher and it’s on again. Washing machine is on with a towel wash. I need to vacuum as had a friend and her hairy dog over last night. Want to do some cleaning in the kitchen too. Might stick a podcast on and see if that helps my motivation….

Nothing much else planned. Want to read my book for a bit. Some diced beef defrosting for dinner - I think it will be some sort of curry. Up to DH as he’s cooking.

We had late nights last night so I think it will be an early one tonight.

@DilemmaDelilah - I hope all is ok. I had BC in 2016 although was lucky that it hadn’t spread and just needed a lumpectomy and radiation. But I do understand the worry. Finger crossed for you.

Rowgtfc72 · 22/11/2025 11:38

Morning!
Watched the F1 quali on catch up and just waiting for the washer to finish. Darent leave it unattended as last weekend it jumped half out the kitchen unit and tried to take the double oven out with it with a massive bang that made me think the kitchen had blown up.
Nipping out in a bit to pick up 2 second hand car bucket seats for dh. That's his Christmas present sorted. He's rebuilding a classic mini- sprayed it orange so far! Looks very good.
Need to catch up with dd who's in York with her best mate who's at uni there- they're doing the Christmas market this afternoon and then watching Wicked 2 later. They saw Wicked on stage in London when it first came out.
Thanks to the above poster who mentioned Fontaine- it's reminded me to look for something Fontaines DC related for Christmas. Much appreciated.
@DilemmaDelilah hoping everything goes ok for you.

PearlTeapot · 22/11/2025 11:41

Morning @lucysmam and everyone. Sending love to @DilemmaDelilah and hoping it's nothing for you.

I'm still in hospital so the days are very dejavu. But it's MUCH quieter over the weekends. A lot of patients go home on leave too. I slept til 8 after moving onto higher meds last night and only woke a few times in the night, so I feel really good this morning.

I've had a shower, 3 coffees, put my laundry in the machine (just moved to the tumble drier), freshened up my room then spent about 90 mins doing diamond painting. Another one on this thread who enjoys it 😊I have a friend coming at 2 which I'm really looking forward to.

I feel very productive and chilled which makes a nice change as I've had a run of terrible days so feeling hopeful this is a turning point.

Have a good day everyone, enjoy xxx

Whattheduck · 22/11/2025 11:46

Chucking it down here so currently on the sofa with the dog watching Coronation Street
Dh is sorting his wardrobe out
Dd is back from university and is teaching at a dance school this morning then has her weekend job this afternoon she’ll go to her boyfriends after work
No plans for today other than pottering around at home and doing some online Christmas shopping
I’m having a jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw for tea and Dh has left over curry from our Indian meal out last night
Will watch tv later / listen to a podcast

Ijwwm · 22/11/2025 12:06

@lucysmam - ha, those pesky foot warmers 😹. Mine aren’t too noisy at night, but have the occasional zoomies where they use my bed like Breechers Brook at the grand national. Having almost 12kg of cats landing on you at 3am definitely jolts you awake!

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 22/11/2025 12:07

Good afternoon @lucysmam & The Saturday Gang. Had better mornings. I woke up early as DH’s alarm goes off at some unearthly hour & I was feeling lightheaded. Probably sinus related. Couldn’t stop yawning & I should have gone back to sleep really. DH brought me a cuppa in bed then I got dressed & took a parcel to the PO (returning a snowglobe as I was sent the wrong one). Spent ages searching for a pair of trousers that I want to wear this afternoon as we’re going out & was despairing of ever finding them until I happened to look under a pile of throws in one of the washing baskets. Unfortunately ended up in a shouting match with DD16 (not proud of myself & it hasn’t happened in ages but today she really riled me!) DH arrived home as we were in mid rant & DD called me a bitch. She’s gone out for a walk I’m glad to say. I’ve had buttered seeded toast with M & S mandarin marmalade & another cuppa. Unloaded & loaded the dishwasher & will clean the kitchen surfaces. There’s a load of washing on a wool cycle. After DH & I have been out, we’ll pop to Tescos for a few bits. Fancying pizza for tea. Strictly tonight. At some point, I want to cut & paint my toenails as I have a spa morning soon. Have a good day all 🙂🙂

gingercat02 · 22/11/2025 12:12

Afternoon all
Bit of a higgildy pigglity day in the ginger household.
Left a wash on timer last night so that's hung up, and a delicates wash done. Need to do a lights too but running out of hanging space.
I have a few little jobs to do. I want to make lentil soup and some fruit and nut bars too.
DH has gone for a long run, he and DS are at a teatime football match, so I'll get to watch strictly in peace.
DS is straight out to an 18th from there, so something fishy for DH and I for tea
We're away for a uni open day tomorrow so all the jobs need done today.

Thislittlekitten · 22/11/2025 12:13

Afternoon @lucysmam and the Saturday bunch.

@DilemmaDelilah sending love and hugs. I love reading your updates.

I was up early as it’s DH birthday so the kids took in gifts for him. Walked the dog and made bacon rolls all round.

Having a quick tidy as DH family coming round for a few hours.

Not really too much planned this evening. I actually though want all the Christmas stuff down from the attic. I’d like to see what we have. I’m also sure I have loads of wrapping paper there so want to check that. I really should wrap some of the presents I have so I’m not a last minute Annie as usual but not sure that will happen.

I have some mince in might something with that for tea.

Rainbow1235 · 22/11/2025 12:27

Good afternoon I’m very late today . Been a mad morning rushing around always a drama in this house . About to pop to town for a few bits and then home to chill with wine and strictly . Have a great and safe day all 🫶

Taytocrisps · 22/11/2025 12:31

Morning all. Well, it's afternoon now. Typical Saturday here. I dropped DD to work for 8.30 and did my Tesco shop. I've made a list of household chores to be done, so I'll get stuck in shortly. I also need to nip to the local shop for a few things they didn't have in Tesco, or items I prefer to buy from my local shop. Dinner will be turkey burgers (burgers from the butcher's shop). DCats had a bit of a tiff earlier (chasing each other around the sitting room type tiff) but they're both snoozing peacefully now.

Taytocrisps · 22/11/2025 12:34

@DilemmaDelilah I can understand your concerns, but I hope it turns out to be nothing sinister. Good to get it checked out though.

SilkiePenguin · 22/11/2025 12:37

Hope the lump is nothing @DilemmaDelilah It normally is but best to feel sure.

I have photographed our squirrel, possibly Mr and Mrs Squirrel, in our garden and sent it to DD at uni. She is back in 2 weeks so have ordered in some cakes for her return. She always says she doesn't like cakes but she will just have one then she needs another.

We have a 14 day trial at David Lloyd at the moment so will be spending a lot of the day there in the indoor and outdoor spa / sauna and swimming. Just putting new curtains upstairs and the cat is fascinated as it involves a cardboard box, a plastic packet and string and moving things. He is purring watching.

The cat did wake us up at 7am very determined to get his second tuna breakfast, first one was at 2am. He got it and ate it all at once.

Stillpoor · 22/11/2025 12:57

I woke up about 20 minutes ago so still waking up.
Got no chores or house work to do so I'm going to binge on the web alday.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 22/11/2025 12:59

Good morning. I'm just back from bringing DS2s to his class, I always do a walk and it's our routine. I was just about to shower and get on with some chores but realised I have nothing to do for a while. DS1 just got his licence and has taken my car to training. Dd has an evening birthday party and her friend is here with her for the afternoon first, and DS2 is chilling on a tablet after his exercise. I'm a little hungover after a few drinks with friends last night so right now I'm making a strong coffee and watching Netflix with the dog. I just discovered Broadchurch, I'm loving it.

zingally · 22/11/2025 14:50

I was up and out for about 7:45 to do the food shop at Asda. Got some pleasing deals on yellow sticker, which have mostly gone straight in the freezer.
Stopped off at Waitrose on the way back for my free coffee with the members card. Didn't even buy anything, so very restrained.

Back at home I had a battle with the thermostat. It's stopped communicating with the box on the wall next to the boiler. Normally an in and out with the batteries gets it going again, but nothing doing this time. In the end I turned the boiler on manually, but very annoying. I'll have another fiddle with it tomorrow. It's not vastly urgent or anything. Just irksome.

Had a productive morning of cleaning. Dishwasher on, finished then unloaded. Then put a wash on, a mixture of bathroom mats and clothes, then hung that on the airer to dry.
Cleaned both bathroom floors and deep cleaned loos and sinks, put new rim blocks in both.
Mopped kitchen and hallway floors.

Plan for this evening is to re-watch the first Wicked film, as going to see Part 2 in the cinema on Monday evening, so thought it would be nice to get in the spirit. Had thought I might make a start on Christmas cards, but they are currently in a box in the garage somewhere (purchased in the sales last year), and not sure I fancy venturing out there today!

DilemmaDelilah · 22/11/2025 17:11

@Zippedydodah it's a bit late now (sorry) but I managed to rescue last week's beef and fennel casserole... enough to make it edible if not something I will look forward to... by adding some extra liquid and some flour to thicken (thereby diluting the flavour a bit) and some herbs - the ones I normally put in a stew - then putting it in the oven to cook/heat up, to give it more of a stew flavour. Mr Dilemma isn't keen - but will eat enough so that I don't have to make a separate meal for him. He is pretty good about eating things that he wouldn't choose, and if I make dumplings for him he will be happy.

I wasn't going to waste nearly £20 worth of beef!
