Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in silence, in my kitchen spot. The cats have been fed & gone back to bed - girl cat will mosy likely be with dd1, boy cat on my blanket 😊.

My plan is for a steady, moochy, kind of day today. With a roast for tea, at dd1's request.

I'll sort my tablets for the mornings in a minute, pop the washer on, scoop the litter box, then prep tea. The rest of the day, I'll see if either of the girls wants to do anything, and if not, spend a little bit of time with my Christmas lists and a few hours catching up with peg doll painting & considering whether offering to paint festive ones for work is a good idea or not 🤔.

I'll cook the roast early-ish so dd1 has time afterwards to make sure she's all packed and ready to leave for her train in plenty of time. Handily, the station's only ten minutes or so away.

After seeing dd off, I'll have my usual Self-care Sunday scrubby everything shower & sit down with my book for an hour or so until she messages that she's safely back to her uni accommodation in Wembley. Then I'll head to bed, ready for the week ahead 💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

Oh I'm first that never happens. Morning @lucysmam 👋

FoxRedPuppy · 16/11/2025 09:36

Morning! Currently coffee in bed. Then going to buy some new walking boots as mine have totally given up and are giving me soggy feet (despite re-waterproofing!).

Then might try and drag teens for a dog walk, although ds was poorly yesterday and last night, all fevery. So maybe me and dd.

frozendaisy · 16/11/2025 09:38

Good morning quiet house here as well

No plans no laundry today

I am set up with a steaming coffee and The Hallmarked Man book - happy to let everyone wake naturally I have better things to do!

So unless anyone else comes up with something better than me reading (only 600 pages to go) I don’t care what they do today or have any inclination to join in. I haven’t even checked the weather - it doesn’t matter.

Roast later, but I’ve got that down to about an hour or so prep then it’s just moving stuff around, you can do that and read.

Happy Sunday all

Sounds a nice chilled day.
I'm just having breakfast and then off to PiYo as usual. DH is planning a long run so I'm either going to sort the freezer or clean the bathrooms! Fun afternoon.
I'm getting a new (to me) car on Wednesday so need to sort tax and insurance for me and for DS to learn to drive.
No football or F1 to fill the day so might make a roast and invite my mum for tea.
Need to get organised for the week as I'm doing a full week at work, which is unusual

DilemmaDelilah · 16/11/2025 09:39

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. I love hearing about your cats. I really do miss mine, but I have to confess that it is lovely to know that if we wanted to go away for a few days spontaneously it wouldn't be a problem!

I said yesterday that I thought I might start sorting out and putting away my summer clothes - I did do that so my job today is to continue doing that. Youngest daughter and Houdini are coming to stay in a couple of weeks and the spare room is full of 'stuff', so I need to get that all sorted before they get here. Houdini's room is all ready for him though.

Mr Dilemma did get the worst bits of the grouting in the kitchen floor patched up yesterday - and it doesn't look too bad! He is very achy this morning though. He is off to pick up a click and collect order from Morrisons shortly. We have run out of milk, I don't have much left in the way of fresh stir fry vegetables, and my sisters are coming for lunch on Thursday so a top up was needed.

Supper tonight is stir fry again, but beef today - we had pork yesterday. We tend to have it 2 days running because 1 packet of beansprouts does 2 meals if it's just for us. I would be happy eating it every day, and it's an excellent way of getting Mr Dilemma to eat vegetables. We will eat the disastrous beef and fennel casserole tomorrow evening - I still haven't had any suggestions as to how to remedy it? Anyone? Mr Dilemma will complain and I won't enjoy it - but I'm not wasting good food. I have some baby new potatoes that need using up so we will probably have those with it.

Have a lovely day everybody.

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I have been up since 7ish. Woke about 6.15 and couldn’t get back to sleep. Made a cup of tea and had a lovely long chat with my best friend in Sydney. I will never not appreciate being able to call over Messenger for free essentially.

We had friends over for dinner last night so kitchen and dining areas were a bit of a mess first thing so I’ve unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher and it’s back on. Dining table is cleared and tidy again. And I fancied sausage rolls so cooked some from the freezer for breakfast.

Planning a very quiet day. Might go for a walk. But otherwise just some laundry and running the vacuum cleaner around. I have a few magazines to read and I want to start a new book. Planning a bath and a face mask this afternoon too.

Dinner is baked ham with roast potatoes, cabbage and carrots. And some more episodes of Mare of Eastown. We are a bit late to it but really enjoying it.

BartholemewTheCat · 16/11/2025 09:46

Morning @lucysmam, morning all. Had a broken night’s sleep after taking DD to a local event, so feeling a bit downbeat. Today will involve a lazy breakfast, and maybe some gardening later. Have some chicken thighs to cook off and will make a curry and a casserole to get us through the week. Have already sorted the cat litter tray, so already one up on the day!

Peridot1 · 16/11/2025 09:48

@DilemmaDelilah - what’s wrong with the casserole? Would adding some red wine or Worcestershire sauce help? Or one of the little Knorr stock pots?

FoxRedPuppy · 16/11/2025 09:49

@DilemmaDelilah what is wrong with casserole? Too watery?

MoiraRoseVibes · 16/11/2025 09:51

Morning! Had two of DD1’s friends for a sleepover last night but it’s been surprisingly chilled - DD2 being away at her friends’ to sleep made a difference. DH made them all waffles for breakfast and they’re messing around with stinky beauty products upstairs now. Just going to drop them both off in a bit then not much planned for today. If I could get hold of some mixed peel, I could make the Christmas cake, but I might leave that til next weekend. Need something veggie-based for dinner as had lots of meat this week and pizza last night, so craving greens! Happy Sunday.

MajorMerrick · 16/11/2025 09:51

DS has had annual leave from work so has been here for most of the week visiting, then DD came home from uni for the weekend. My house looks like a bomb has hit, so I’m going out and ignoring it!!

lucysmam · 16/11/2025 09:52

@frozendaisy sounds like bliss! I'm currently enjoying listening to Nigel Slater reading Christmas Chronicles whilst I drink a cup of coffee. I'd have read the days I've missed, but his voice is very soothing on the ears 😊.

Was up at 5.45 and so far have walked the dog, unloaded the dishwasher and started a load of washing.
Currently on 3rd visit as a home carer. Will be home by 4.30 after finishing work and going to a hedgehog rescue event locally.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 16/11/2025 10:07

Good morning@lucysmam & The Sunday Crew. Pleased to report I have a pottering day ahead with a little light decluttering. DH & I were booked for a cream tea at a local hotel this afternoon but I’ve changed the date as I’m just not feeling it. I think the week helping to look after my folks has caught up with me. We’ve had a cuppa in bed & DH is about to go to the bathroom. I’ll get dressed & do the dishwasher. Kitchen surfaces need a proper clean & there’s yet more rabbit poo to hoover up. DD16 hasn’t emerged yet. She woke me up at around 2am so guessing she’s still in the land of nod. Her GF was coming for the day but now it’s tomorrow. I might watch Strictly again as I wasn’t taking it in yesterday & then we’ll put the results show on later. DH has suggested a chippy tea which we haven’t had for ages. Have a lovely day everyone 🙂

Tangerinesattack · 16/11/2025 10:08

Morning all.

Bit tired today after a broken night with DS up and down. But feeling quite positive today so far. I've put on a wash and stuck the Korean brisket in the slow cooker - we were supposed to have it yesterday but didn't get it on in time so had mushroom fooyung instead. Bacon sandwiches are in process and DH is cleaning the dishwasher.
Few odd jobs to do today and DS has a party later. He's still feeling poorly so we might take things quite easy this morning. DH is still on call but it was fairly quiet yesterday so he might manage to get some house bits done - famous last words! Hoping for a restful day as yesterday wasn't the easiest - burn out really sucks. @DilemmaDelilah what about some Asian additions if the stew isn't tasty? Soy, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, splash of sherry.

UpDoLego · 16/11/2025 10:10

Aww I am a Lucy mum too! My Lucy is 3 and just ran around and sang Moana for about ten mins 😃. We are all in PJs, my two girls playing, DH watching a documentary and I’m on here. Blissful!

DilemmaDelilah · 16/11/2025 10:11

@FoxRedPuppy @Peridot1 I made the casserole in the slow cooker. I don't know what it is about it... but I have never had a success with any beef casserole in the slow cooker... they always seem to have a particular slow cooker taste about them! Mr Dilemma thinks it tastes bitter - but he has a really peculiar (and not very sensitive) sense of taste so I'm not at all sure that is actually what he is tasting. He likes bitter vegetables like kale, spinach, Brussels sprouts etc. and I don't, and I don't find it bitter at all. I carefully didn't put in too much liquid so the consistency is perfect. I didn't thicken it with flour, whereas I normally would if I was doing it in the oven. There is plenty of flavour - it's just not particularly nice!

I'm wondering whether I should put in a bit more liquid and thicken it, and put it in the oven to reheat. It doesn't need more beefy flavour, and we are not big eaters of wine-based casseroles so I'm not sure about adding wine. I do have some - but I don't want to make it worse!

I made it with beef, fennel, onions, garlic, carrots, celery with some bovril in the liquid and some tomato puree. Usually if I'm doing a stew I add a hefty amount of mixed herbs, but I didn't do it this time. I don't actually like herbs all that much - they just seem right in a stew. Maybe it needs some sugar? And I was already thinking of a splash of Worcestershire sauce.

Hendiadys · 16/11/2025 10:12

I try to read this lovely thread every week but I don’t usually join in, so I’ll have a go today. Currently still sitting cosily in bed (sorry) finishing the second cup of tea which DH brought me - I made the first - after waking at 7.30 or so and reading/catching up with MN. My flimsy excuse is that I did a long drive yesterday as we've been away for a week. Also came back to a temperamental boiler which didn’t want to keep the heating on, so much of yesterday evening was spent hovering anxiously over the controls.

I'll get up shortly and have a shower. There’s a lot of laundry to do from our time away so that can be started. We have a beef joint for dinner tonight and brought a proper stick of sprouts back with us (bought from the little veg shop near where we stay - it’s a sign of Christmas on the way when they start stocking the ‘sprout sticks'). In the same vein, I’m very late making my Christmas cake, but probably won’t be able to do that today as I need some more supplies for it - will try and get it sorted later in the week. I like stem ginger in my cake and I don’t have enough in.
I've also noticed about a ton of leaves needing to be raked up in the garden, so if it doesn’t rain I really ought to get out and try to do that too 😩

HelpMeGetThrough · 16/11/2025 10:17

Off to B&Q in a bit to buy expanding foam. Have been redecorating the youngests room whilst he’s at Uni and discovered why it’s constantly damp around one side of his window. Years ago, the window fitters made a right mess of the fitting and smashed chunks out of the window reveal and covered it with UPVC trim, so I need to repair that, something extra I didn’t bank on needing to do. Lining paper went up yesterday and is drying nicely. Hopefully ready to start painting next week.

Will attempt a relatively restful afternoon. Decorating with a nasty Rheumatoid Arthritis flare up isn’t fun, but it’s got to be decorated. It’ll look good once done.

Berlinlover · 16/11/2025 10:20

Good morning everyone. I’ve just put on a towel wash. Just about to have a bowl of porridge and coffee. I’m meeting a friend for a bite to eat at 2 o’clock. After that we’ll have a look around the shops. I’ll be working at my supermarket job from 5 until 9. I live in Ireland so Sunday trading hours are different here.

lucysmam · 16/11/2025 10:20

@Hendiadys I haven't made my cakes yet either...really struggling to get going this year. And, I need something boozy for the fruit but cba to go out for some.

After a hectic week and a very busy day yesterday today will be a day of relative rest.

I have food shopping due soon, 2nd lot of washing on and a pile of ironing awaits. Kids all have homework and chores. I'm trying to get the older 2 more involved around the house (13 and 11) and at present they seem to enjoy the chores they are given which shows how little they do 😲

Homemade meatballs for dinner and I'm roasting a chicken for meat for sandwiches and a few dinners next week. We won't have a roast now until Christmas!

DP is helping a friend move but he'll take the kids out for a bike ride after lunch so they all get a bit of fresh air.

Probably just a film later and an early night.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 16/11/2025 10:35

Morning all, I was up at 6.30 today, I struggle to sleep any later than that these days (think it’s the start of the dreaded peri menopause)! Had an iced latte on the sofa with the cat then went out for a 4k run at around 8.30. I’ve just ordered a new washing machine as mine has died, thankfully I’d already done all of this weeks laundry. DD is getting ready for work, I’m planning to walk her to the bus stop in an hour or so and then go for a walk in the woods on my way home. Will do a short yoga session before we go and probably another one later. I’m doing sweet and sour chicken with noodles and prawn crackers for dinner using last nights leftover chicken. Dcat will be happy, he loves nothing more than a bit of prawn cracker!

Kim82 · 16/11/2025 10:37

Good morning everyone. I was up around 8am this morning, as was dh and I woke dd11 up at that time too (she slept with me last night, dh slept in the spare room as he has a cold).

We have had a treat breakfast of Pret croissants (a mix of chocolate filled and almond) and Dh has gone out to do a few jobs for his mum and his grandma. I’ve just got back from dropping dd11 at her dance school - they’re doing a Christmas fun day and she has gone early to help with the little ones. I’ll go back at 12.30pm to watch her dance and dd18 and dd21 are coming too then we’ll stay afterwards for the tombola and games, etc.

I really could do with doing some cleaning as the house looks like a tornado has blown through it - I forgot how messy it gets with all the dc in it - but I just can’t be bothered to sort it right now so I’m sitting with a cup of tea.

We’re having garlic chicken, mash and veg for tea and then I’ll iron work and school clothes, have a nice long shower and spend the evening in front of the tv with the girls. I won’t see the two older ones tomorrow morning as I’ll have left for work before they get up (I leave the house at 7am) and I’m already sad that they’re leaving tomorrow. I have absolutely loved this weekend having all four dc around (ds24 didn’t stay over as he lives 5 minutes away but he spent most of yesterday with us). I’m not designed to have adult children that move out!!

Echobelly · 16/11/2025 10:38

Nothing - for the first time ever DH and I are quite ill at the same time. We were maybe going to go to brunch locally partly to make up for the fact that both the teens and DH forgot it was my birthday on Wednesday, but the brunch place never got back to me about a reservation and now we're all sick anyway.

Was going to see my mum who's just had a hip replacement,,but obviously not going over when we're ill.
