Ironically - or possibly not ironically as it's likely one of the reasons he was chosen for the leak - here's the background of Alex Horton, one of the two Washington Post journalists who broke the story: Prior to his writing career, Horton served in the U.S. Army as an Infantryman from 2004-2007 and participated in combat operations in Iraq in the last year of his service. Horton was later awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Valor. I'm guessing he knows a bit about the 'fog of war'.
