£200 to spend on yourself, what do you buy?

Ive neglected myself for years for the good of the family but now I’ve got £200 aside just for me. What would you buy? I have clothes but nothing I love and it’s all cheap primark bits, I don’t need shoes….

what would you buy? I want to spend it now before it gets reallocated to something!

In a similar situation I have bought a new wool coat (old one was about 20 years old and didn’t really fit anymore) and a good pair of slippers. Everything else I have is second hand, but finding a petite cut coat, that was also flattering when youre a bit overweight and was second hand was proving to be an impossibility.

Alexbob · 05/10/2025 12:37

Either something that will last (e.g. a watch or necklace) or an experience (tickets to something). I was left a few hundred quid when my grandmother died and spent it on a violin - I joined a local music group and got a bit of both!

roxyfoxy123 · 05/10/2025 12:48

a pair of earrings. I used to represent the lab grown diamond sector and they have massively come down in price and are still a great buy.

Why are people suggesting she buy stuff for the house ? 🤷‍♀️
Buy a really good quality handbag for the whole amount OP.

PlaydohClub · 05/10/2025 12:53

I think I’d get a facial or a massage.

I could also do with some decent running trainers. Mine are looking a bit haggard!

Wigtopia · 05/10/2025 12:53

These in the olive colour

and with the left over cash i would take my book for a solo trip to a nice cafe to get a fancy slice of cake and beverage of choice 🤩

A ticket to something you would live to see.

Linen or high thread count cotton bedding so going to bed feels glorious every night.

A really good lipstick (I like Charlotte Tilbury Walk Of No Shame)

IShouldNotCoco · 05/10/2025 12:54

Beauty advent calendar! £1000+ worth of cutting edge products for £200.

Edited

I can't think of anything worse than a good handbag, don't use them. Nice stuff for the house on the other hand would work for me.

27pilates · 05/10/2025 13:12

Oh well @Blanketenvy, different strokes and all that. I bet you’re one of those people who likes getting a new iron for their birthday 🙄

Not at all: lovely clothes, skincare, nice bed linen, throws art prints etc are all good with me though

zingally · 05/10/2025 13:21

I put it into a "specifically for holidays" savings account. :)
That's where all of my accidental little incomes go. Mum slips me £20 for no reason? Holiday savings account! I work a random little bit of overtime? Holiday savings account!
It's fun to see it mount up, and when you have the holiday, you remember what helped pay for it.
Mine will go on a 2-week cruise sometime next year.

Bjorkdidit · 05/10/2025 13:28

That's fab @zingally

Also saving it until you think of something you want, especially if you know its likely to be something expensive like a cruise.

Far better than rushing to spend it so you have 'something' so it all goes on little bits you don't really care for, but you never seem to have the money when you think of something you do want.

Bedding! Really good bedding.

Boring. And it’s for the home not op.

I would get a new winter coat or a good pair of trainers and a pair of stylish boots

MondeoFan · 05/10/2025 15:59

A penhaligons perfume
some new underwear
nice slippers (Ugg or similar)
some new make up

thisishowloween · 05/10/2025 16:07

A night away in a hotel.

Maia77 · 16/11/2025 19:41

A good quality coat or a cashmere jumper; or maybe some skincare - Medik8 crystal retinal or a good moisturiser like Clarins' Hydra Essentiel. A nice lipstick like Westman Atelier Lip Suede or Armani Matte Lip Power.

Maraudingmarauders · 16/11/2025 20:55

I’d use to it but another two courses of my laser treatment (and have a hot chocolate with the change). But that only really works as an addition to what I’m spending normally, it wouldn’t help for a one off. But I’m focusing my spending on getting the treatments as it’s honestly life changing for me, having spent years fighting with constant regrowth and shaving rash etc, to have smooth pits and bikini line is like a dream come true. I’ll have to save even more for my legs but I think it’ll be worth it.

Fontet · 16/11/2025 20:56

Skincare and make up

LarryIsMyRomanEmpire · 16/11/2025 20:57

A gig ticket or two.
I'm all about experiences over possessions

FairViewRosie25 · 16/11/2025 21:08

Book the rat man for come and sort the unwanted visitors in my loft. Just got the house sorted after the shower pump flood and now Roland has invaded thr loft and shat everywher

Right now I'd hold off and wait until I had enough to cover a skylight calendar.

Extremely overpriced and nonessential. Doesn't stop me wanting it haha!

what is this?

true. I realised all my treats were actually for the home and I never treated myself. ended up in a breakdown

sleepandcoffee · 20/11/2025 18:10

I would buy 6 items of clothing that are basic - 1 pair of jeans , one pair of comfy trousers or cords ( next have great barrel trousers) 3 basic tops and a lovely jumper so you can mix and match a few outfits . If theres any left over i would top up my skin care collection

Bushwoolie · 20/11/2025 22:02

LucyLoo1972 · 20/11/2025 17:56

what is this?

It's a digital calendar. Not dissimilar to what you have on your phone, but the size of a tablet. You can obviously sync your usual calendar to it but it allows for you to add tasks etc to it for wither yourself or others to complete. A friend of mine has one and it works really well with her younger children.

I thrive off being organised so whilst ideal for me, others will find it very boring!
