Absolute madness

Just had a conversation with a friend, she told me that her and her husband don’t have their own side of the bed, they literally just get in whatever side, and sleep.
madness. I love my side of the bed 😂
any odd things you know People do? Or is this not odd 🤔

I can't imagine this.

When DH and i met the fact we both slept on the same side of our respective beds was something that took a fair while to reconcile.

Eventually, because he wanted to me to live with him, DH emigrated to the other side. And if we ever reminisce about our earlier days it always comes up that i moved (from my house to his) but he emigrated 😂

That’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard.

Imagine not having your own pillow! Where do their books live? What about his penis beaker???

I have so many questions.

What about his penis beaker???

They obviously just share a water glass.

That’s madness! Are you sure it wasn’t a joke?

Worse than sharing toothbrushes.

My boyfriend and I didn’t have a side of the bed for about a year of living together. We do now, though!

Im single in a kingsize bed, I sleep both sides. Do other singles just sleep on one side?

Single in a double bed. I’ve slept on “my side” in relationships and still do now many years down the line of being happily single. I’ve only recently discovered that I can actually starfish all over the bed if I want. However having 7 cats they do encroach. The heaviest one happily puts his full body weight on one tit and then shifts over to the other and does the kneading with all claws out. At which point I chuck all of them out of my room and lock the door otherwise they take turns.
They’re all indoor cats but there has to be a limit to stomping on my boobs and sternum! I can literally tell which cat has climbed onto me by weight and then behaviour.

Franpie · 27/09/2025 03:20

I might be your friend! We don’t have our own sides of the bed. Been together over 25 years and hasn’t been an issue.

Shitmonger · 27/09/2025 04:25

Pure anarchy. 🫣

Also, to the person who asked about sleeping when single, obviously the only correct answer is to sleep in the centre of the bed taking up as much real estate as humanly possible.

Ginmonkeyagain · 27/09/2025 08:35

Oh my god these people are monsters. You have to have a side.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 27/09/2025 09:55

Umm don't have a side as such. Don't have bedside tables and have been known to sleep sideways across the bed (very big super kingsize) but in our defence 95% of the time sleeping positions are dictated by the dogs

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 27/09/2025 10:13

I was horrified enough by my daughter and SIL who sleep on different sides depending where they are. My daughter won’t sleep under a window or furthest from the door so she chooses her side if they’re in a hotel or away somewhere, and then he just takes the other side. DH and I were baffled by this and they thought it was hilarious that we stick to our sides wherever we are.

The Penis Beaker thread that broke Mumsnet.

Those were the days 😁

CeeJay81 · 27/09/2025 10:20

This thread has made me laugh. I also couldn't imagine sleeping on a different side of the bed. It would just feel so wrong!

Hoppinggreen · 27/09/2025 10:21

What madness is this? Even if one of us sleeps elsewhere we don't encroach on the side that isn't ours.
We have actually discovered that if we are away on holiday or whatever we always share a bed with DH on the side nearest the door without even discussing it

TheSandgroper · 27/09/2025 10:25

In a previous relationship, I woke up one morning and my world was on its arse even with my eyes closed. Apparently, I had rolled and pushed so much, DBF got out and got in again on my side. I knew nothing. But once I had woken, everything was wrong. So wrong.

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/09/2025 10:32

Just reading that has stressed me out. Where do you put your beside-the-bed stuff? These people are weird, you should stop seeing her op (but only after she has answered all our questions, lol).

AntiqueMaps · 27/09/2025 10:43

I sleep on the right because I’m right handed. So I can easily get my phone etc from bedside table.
if I meet someone new they’ll have to be left handed.

flippyflopss · 27/09/2025 10:47

I sleep alone in my huge king bed.
I have no spot really because its all mine.
Sleep like a starfish role all over the bed it's great.
Although i do have a spot in the living room my huge comfy rocking chair i can snuggle in.
I love being single.

I'm so glad you said previous relationship. Imagine living the rest of your life not knowing what side of the bed you'll wake up on.

In 45 odd years, I have only ever done it the once.

I was visiting surprise by myself at the time.

And even though I am strongly right handed, I lie to read and sleep starting on my left.

I have a super king to myself and sleep in the middle.

SeaAndStars · 26/09/2025 21:31

DH and I went camping and something about the orientation of the tent addled my compass and I got in his side of the bed by mistake.

His level of surprise and confusion hasn't been matched in 40 years.

This made me laugh out loud!🤣 I love how you phrased that!!

my DH and I swapped sides a couple of years ago, I’m not quite sure how it happened, something to do with my side having more space around it and he wanted to get up to do sit ups in the morning… don’t know why I gave in but it was very unsettling. I am now used to my new side, but it did take the full 2 years and now would not dream of swapping back, and could definitely not chop and change every night!!

LaurieFairyCake · 27/09/2025 14:34

Definitely aliens

you should report them

Brightbluesomething · 27/09/2025 15:11

MN is often weird but this is next level! Who the hell can deal with the uncertainty of never knowing what side of the bed you’re going to sleep on?
I have a king size to myself and always sleep on the side closest to the loo. Can’t be walking around the bed at night as it’ll wake me up too much. And I’m so clumsy I’ll probably fall over.
My electric blanket is dual side so I only have to switch half of it on to warm me up.
I do turn the mattress though, I’m not an animal.

MagicLoop · 27/09/2025 15:16

Whaaaaat?! Crazy.
