When did you go gray?

Just that, really. How long did it take from the first grays to being fully gray?

First grey hair at 17. Now 80% grey at 43.

HippeePrincess · 15/09/2025 19:54

38 and no greys at all yet, dp slightly younger and been goring grey since 30.

KickHimInTheCrotch · 15/09/2025 19:54

First greys aged about 28-29.
I'm now 47 and still only about 5% grey probably, I stopped dying it during covid years as it seemed like a good opportunity to grow out any roots and was surprised at how ok it was, just a few streaks around the front.
My grandma is 96 and is still only about 50% grey.

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 15/09/2025 19:56

I have had grey hairs since I was about 19. My roots are now completely grey, at 45 but I have always coloured my hair regularly.

These days I have them blended rather than coloured and intend to let it come through as it wishes

Mid 50s. Started to get a few greys in my early 50s, not completely grey yet.

ShanghaiDiva · 15/09/2025 20:01

Noticed the odd grey hair late teens/early 20s and 75% grey by mid 50s. I stopped colouring it and I love the colour a mixture of dark grey, mid grey and silver. Ds takes after me (very dark hair) and the first grey hairs have been spotted.

ScarlettSunset · 15/09/2025 20:03

Wasn't aware of any grey at 50.
But started dying my hair then as I just fancied a different colour. It could all potentially be covered up grey now, though I don't think so.

RosesAndHellebores · 15/09/2025 20:03

A few grey strands in my mid to late 20s. That was it until my 40s. Now 65 and I'm probably about 30 to 40% grey. White at the front and it looks awful.

I have a very good hairdresser who puts three colour highlights in.

My natural colour is a light, mousy brown. I have noticed that fairer hair seems to grey later and more slowly. DH is fair and I reckon about 30% but the greys aren't as stark on a natural blonde!

SecretNameforMN · 15/09/2025 20:03

67 and still have a full head of thick, dark-brown hair. I've never dyed it.

StanfreyPock · 15/09/2025 20:05

Early 50s, after some major stress with redundancy and elderly parents, plus health scare. Silver grey all over the top, but still dark at back of neck.
I love my platinum grey! Easy to care for, shiny as not using harsh dyes, and grew it long during lockdown. Best hair of my life 😍

QueenClinomania · 15/09/2025 20:06

I haven't yet. I'm 51 and have a bit of silver at the temples but thats it.
I take after my dad's side, none of them went grey until their 60s and 70s

My sister is a few years younger than me and has been pretty much grey for years.
Our mum was fully grey by 40.
Grandma I dont know because she coloured it a lovely honey blonde into her 60s
Our great grandma was fully grey in her 30s so I have been told.

SabbatWheel · 15/09/2025 20:10

I’m 58 and haven’t got any grey hairs at all. Mum was grey in her 20s and dad in his 40s. I’m clearly a throwback!

Astrabees · 15/09/2025 20:13

69 and very few gray hairs, a sprinkling of dark blonde highlights is more than enough to disguise them.

mummyto9angels · 15/09/2025 20:15

Found my first grey hair at 13! 100% grey by early 30s

KeenSnail · 15/09/2025 20:16

I first noticed white hairs when I was 18, going white early runs in my family.

I am lucky to have a very wonderful mother who proudly wears her natural white hair. She stopped dying her hair roughly around 40ish when she was fully white. She’s 60 next year and fully embraces her natural beauty. I’ve known children to ask her if she’s a fairy, and even heard people tell her it’s like star light.

I’m 27 and have about 30% white hair now according to my hair dresser. I’m honestly looking forward to having more and more so I can match my mum ❤️

ShortColdandGrey · 15/09/2025 20:17

First grey hair at 12 thanks to my mums genetics. I would say in the last 3 years my roots are completely white. I am currently going lighter to blend them in. I will probably go natural when I am 50. So in about 3 or 4 years time, or when I can no longer be arsed doing my roots.

LittlePineapple · 15/09/2025 20:17

Early 40s although silvery white now late 40s

ErrolTheDragon · 15/09/2025 20:18

ive a few whites but they really don’t show up in my fair hair. 64.

rewardh · 15/09/2025 20:19

Late 30s and by late 40s I stopped dying it

MrsLizzieDarcy · 15/09/2025 20:25

I was 27 - now at 55 am completely grey but a rather nice blend of 50/50 salt and pepper. Stopped using colour about 3 years ago and am enjoying the natural look - plus my hair is in such better condition.

suffedpeppers · 15/09/2025 20:28

First grey hair aged about 30 . Now in my 60s and hair generally blonde with grey hairs at my temples.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 15/09/2025 20:31

Getting a few grays starting to appear

age 51

Wildehorses · 15/09/2025 20:32

54 and a few strands of grey but neither of my parents had much grey hair even in their 70s so purely genetic, I am the only person in my friend group who does not dye their hair yet … but alas my skin is not ageing as well!

GentleSheep · 15/09/2025 20:44

I'm 69 but hardly any grey hairs. I did have a few in my 50s and thought 'this is it' but then strangely they disappeared. Have no idea when I might go grey properly if at all! My mum was totally grey by 30.

familyissues12345 · 15/09/2025 20:48

I have weird grey hairs, they’re almost golden! I don’t have many, probably a dozen or so.

im mid 40’s
