Any job in the world…what would you choose?

If you had to have a job, but it could be any job in the world…what would you pick? Your absolute dream job. Assume you had the skills to do it.

Mine is definitely pathologist. I think it would be amazing to be able to help people without having to talk to them.

Conversely, I’d hate to do a job that involved talking to people. Teacher. GP. Diplomat. All fill me with a sense of dread

Either a job that just involved reading books or a writer. I’ve never really tried writing. I don’t want to write novels, more researching and writing non-fiction.
I probably should have been an academic.

A barrister. I wanted to do this, but didn't have the money after graduating, had to take a job straight after leaving university. I could've been a KC by now in another life 😃

LandSharksAnonymous · 14/09/2025 08:53

I love my actual job, but if I couldn’t do that I’d want to be writer.

Highly paid restaurant critic please! Or very well paid dancer

(I am not a chef and I can't dance, but in this alternate reality, I am either great with food or dance)

BollickyBill · 14/09/2025 09:02

A midwife.

Some sort of diving job, following baby sea turtles in the ocean to keep them safe etc. Living on a boat most of the year. Free diving in my spare time, oooh treasure hunter diving, looking through old wrecks to find long lost jewels.

MegaClutterSlut · 14/09/2025 09:17

Anything to do with animals or forensic investigator

WhatDidYouThink · 14/09/2025 09:23

I wouldn’t change from my actual job.
I’ve been doing it for 25 years and I love it.
I’m a speech and language therapist.

40andlovelife · 14/09/2025 09:27

I would love to change careers to adult nursing. However, to do the 2 year masters it would mean 2 years with no income. I don’t think I would qualify for any financial help as my partner earns a good wage.

If money and time was no object and I could just work for fun?

I'd be an Ikea flat pack assembler. So satisfying.

JollyMintWasp · 14/09/2025 09:48

Professional bed tester. Just nap in luxury hotels all day and call it work.

frozendaisy · 14/09/2025 09:50

Owner of an independent community hub in a large pretty town bookshop, with great coffee, amazing conversation and many events celebrating the richness art, literature and music can bring to your life.

leadedwindows · 14/09/2025 10:15

An architect. But only one that can pick and choose and work on buildings that are truly beautiful. Yes, highly unrealistic!

That sounds lovely. I’d be a customer.

Postman on the Lizard peninsula. Just trundling around country lanes in my little van, with R4 and a flask of coffee for company. I'd have to be vastly better at getting up early than I am now or, in fantasy world, it'd be fine to start later.

DreamOfTheRarebitFiend · 14/09/2025 12:54

I'm a novelist, which is already my dream job! But if I could have any other job, I'd work in the film industry, probably as a film editor.

I was going to say that I can't think of any job that I'd rather do than my current one (clinical perfusionist) but this might be it!

Historian
Archaeologist
Museum curator
Writer

Or, better still, an aggregation of all those occupations

Catpiece · 14/09/2025 12:56

Detective. Or a librarian.
