9 year old girls - birthday gifts

HelpMeUnpickThis · 13/09/2025 10:09

Would anyone share what 9 year old girls are into at the moment? Just had the first birthday party invite and am not sure what to buy - my daughter has just started at a new school (if it had been the old school I would have asked the mum directly). Not sure where to start. Any suggestions welcome.

If it’s a whole class party I would just put £5 in a card. If your daughter is one of a few invited I’d do £10.
If looking for a gift specifically maybe some sort of crafting set, stationary, notebooks sort of thing

Emmz1510 · 13/09/2025 12:27

Is your daughter also 9? Surely you know from the stuff she likes what might go down well?
Arts and crafts and jewellery making kits are normally a good shout for that age group.

similar to the first poster, £5 or £10 in a card is quite usual round here.

otherwise I ask my daughter what the child likes- if they like stitch for example which seems popular I’d get some stitch related stationary.

as above- Jewellery making and craft stuff is popular. Also slushie makers- I found one in b and m for a tenner which was good. Chocolate lolly making kit, bath bomb making kit etc also good.

Surely the best person to ask what nine year old girls like is your nine year old daughter?

Bunnycat101 · 13/09/2025 13:12

I think 9 can be a little bit tricky as some as still into toys and some can be a bit over things they think are ‘babyish’. I think the safest thing is nice stationery

@NuffSaidSam

Lol. It should be obvious that I would have already done that.

I was looking for different ideas.

Thank you for your suggestions though. Oh wait, you didnt make any. You were just rude for no reason. 🙄.

Edited

@Emmz1510 my daughter is 9 but she is the youngest in the year and we have just joined this new school. I dont know anyone there at all. We are trying to settle in. It has only been a week.

I KNOW what my daughter likes.

I was asking for OTHER suggestions or ideas.

You think it's rude to suggest that you ask your daughter? That's an odd outlook on life.

Ok, so you want different suggestions to the ones your daughter made. What did your daughter suggest?

@NuffSaidSam I think it’s rude to try to make me look too stupid to think of asking my daughter first.

My DD2 9 is obsessed with things like bath bombs, lip glosses, etc

My DD1 would have hated those things aged 9.

Hence asking for a range of experiences from a wider group. Different ideas, cool finds, novel suggestions.

Clay beads kit. A little jellycat toy. A nice notebook and some legami pens

KateMcN80 · 13/09/2025 14:52

My 9 year old loves any type of pens/pencils, notebooks, Fidget toys, squishmallows or TY teddies, she loves stitch stuff and these rainbow high dolls but they are dear. K-pop demon hunters is big in her group of friends. She doesn’t like the labubu dolls but I know they are popular. I hope that’s helpful x

All the children in my daughter's year 4 class are obsessed with teeny tiny plastic turtles from Amazon at the moment. The ones with the most street cred have turtles that glow in the dark. They cost about £4 for 100 of the things so I think it's a great craze Grin

Mine loves these too. Tiny axolotls

Readyforseptember · 13/09/2025 18:49

Legami anything stationery is very popular with 9 year olds here. Agree with craft stuff as well, or age appropriate jewellery. If it isn't to the birthday girl's taste i wouldn't worry too much, it will get regifted.

This went down well with DD(9) friends

All my DDs friends are obsessed with this K Pop Demon Hunters thing at the moment. Also Squishmallows. DD had a really nice clay bead bracelet making kit for Christmas which she's spent a lot of time using. Lottie Brooks books are very popular at school. My DD is always over the moon with a really nice set of pens, glitter gel pens or colouring pencils. I've got my eye on a miniature portable watercolour set for Christmas for her.

I've also noticed lots of axolotl and capybara themed stuff but no idea whether it's linked to a particular show or movie.

HelpMeUnpickThis · 13/09/2025 19:02

Thank you so much for all the recs! I really appreciate it. I might do a big haul and keep them in a drawer and dole them out as each invite comes in.

Thank you all so much.

My DD9 loves the Dork Diaries books, anything from Sephora or Kenji, dubai chocolate, cool drink bottles, cute stationary, earrings, bangles, pens and grown up colouring books, hello kitty or stitch merch, KPOP demon hunters merch, fun keyrings

Gardenroomdoom · 13/09/2025 21:12

Yes kpop demon hunters seems v popular and spy x family. So manga drawing books etc are good. Posca pens are great too.

At that age I bought a personalised initial necklace from Not on the High Street for each birthday party - unless it was a child DD said wasn’t into jewellery.

They had the initial and then a charm, could choose from charms like a panda or rainbow or ice cream cone so quite child appropriate.

Moveoverdarlin · 13/09/2025 21:18

Mine would like.

Lip balm in all sorts of flavours / funny shapes - get them from Claire’s / Home Bargains

Pencil case / Drinks bottle or anything from Smiggle

Alice bands / hair bands (Primark / Claire’s)

Good felt tips / pens stationary

Make-up (kids sets)

Pengane · 13/09/2025 21:20

Smiggle was popular with my daughter around the age of 9. Lots of lovely things but pricey!
All the best in your search

K Pop Demon Hunter/ Huntrix is suuuuuper popular here too.
Capybara and Labubus as well.
Lilo and Stitch is a huge trend as well.

If in doubt I'd buy a gift card for Zara or similar.
