Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, after a nice long cuddle with boy cat 😊. I have the washer on already & am going to nip up and remind dd1 that she wanted to be up early when I've typed this. So not my usual weekend morning quiet start. The kittens have gone back up to bed after their breakfast.

I'm dying dd1's hair today <yay!>. She was getting up early to do it, then nip to Lidl for the veg she fancied with today's roast, and some cheese for a cheese sauce.

The rest of the day will probably be spent watching a few episodes of The Rookie, with dd2, while she does some Health and Social Care work for school, and I start some peg dolls. I didn't get round to starting them yesterday 🤷‍♀️.

We'll have the roast for tea, then all chip in cleaning the kitchen, before showers all round - maybe not dd1 actually, she'll want to avoid washing as much as possible! My usual Self-Care-Sunday scrubby shower for me, followed by refreshing my toenail polish then an hour or two with my book before bed, ready for work tomorrow 💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

Nothing much it's raining and there's a thunderstorm storm. One of the dogs is not happy and keeps barking and the other is glued to my side.

GiantYorkshirePud · 07/09/2025 09:05

Sounds good.

I was going to have a nice chilled out day at home, but DD (7 months) had the longest stretch of sleep ever last night in months and I feel unusually refreshed, so we might go into town with her for a walk/mooch!

Then cooking a beef joint for dinner.

Myfridgeiscool · 07/09/2025 09:05

Morning all. Dog walk this morning then I’m going to watch some Radio 2 in the park. We went yesterday and it was awesome!

mememememe1984 · 07/09/2025 09:07

lovely thread!!

I am currently sitting outside sipping coffee and doom scrolling. I have a whole duck in the oven at the moment slow roasting for lunch, I’m about to put a wash on so it can be hung out and dried and ready for the week.

When it gets warmer in an hour or two my two kids will jump in the pool for lunch (they are currently playing with toys).

After lunch we plan to cycle to an ice cream place (my boys are 4&6 so only a 10km cycle), then it’s home for some more pool and showering. Then a light dinner, get school stuff ready for the week, tidy up a bit and early night for us all.

So nothing too exciting, just trying to make the most of the weather before it changes.

Zippedydodah · 07/09/2025 09:07

Good morning @lucysmam , just enjoying a large mug of coffee and my usual avocado toast before making an apple crumble for pudding and picking the runner beans to go with pork chops in cider sauce. There’s new potatoes too and purple sprouting broccoli.
We walked the dogs earlier, they’re both asleep, it was really warm at 7.30, 18°, so muggy feeling. It’s meant to be raining by 10.
I’m going down to my Shed to some more drawing, it’s very peaceful there and I can watch the birds on the feeders, we have flocks of goldfinches every day.
i might do some knitting later, I’m trying to use up my considerable yarn stash by knitting mitred-square blankets, I’m not sure what I’ll do with them as I have more than enough already!
What do you do with your peg dolls? Do you sell them? I’m intrigued 😊

LivelyCrab · 07/09/2025 09:11

I love reading these threads. My kids are the age where they’re slightly more independent (9&10), and are spending more time in their rooms. I haven’t quite made the adjustment to being on hand all the time, so often find myself unable to just take some time to do my own stuff in those moments.

I’ve just unloaded the dishwasher. DH has taken Ds to football training. DD playing upstairs on her dance mat. I might try and get her to come and make some homemade granola with me in a minute.

dizzydizzydizzy · 07/09/2025 09:17

Packing my suitcase to go and visit DC2 who is studying abroad.

I'll be watching the lunar eclipse this evening.

Apart from that, I'll be reading the Sunday papers and cleaning the bathroom.

mamaduckbone · 07/09/2025 09:19

Good morning @lucysmam and mumsnet.

I'm still in bed drinking tea after waiting up late for ds2 to get back from a party last night, but it's a beautiful day here so I'll get up shortly.

A quiet day planned...dh and ds2 are painting our new shed, I have an hour or so of school work to do, a bit of laundry and ironing to get on top of before the week starts and I need to pop over and see my mum. Otherwise, I'll be pottering in the garden and chilling.

We have the ingredients for a roast in the house but I might go shopping for bbq food instead to make the most of this last bit of summer that we seem to have today.

Happy Sunday everyone!

lucysmam · 07/09/2025 09:21

@Zippedydodah you've reminded me I still need to get yarn out for the butterfly or jellyfish!

The peg dolls go on displays at work, some in classrooms, some outside them. Most of the ones I did over the summer hols are part of a historical timeline in Y1.

Finish some decorating, get new school shoes, walk dogs, help with homework, cook roast. Still lying in bed so better get a move on!

DilemmaDelilah · 07/09/2025 09:26

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

We've had thunder and rain this morning, but it is actually a little warmer than it has been recently.

My mouth is still fine, after my extractions on Friday. I'm still avoiding anything hard, chewy or crunchy and using mouthwash frequently, but I'm in no pain. Here's hoping it stays that way! The stitches are annoying but I can cope with that.

My plans for today are very simple. We (because I can't do it on my own) are going to remake the beds for DD2 and Houdini's next stay. It won't be for a few months but we have a nice dry house with plenty of ventilation so they shouldn't feel damp when they are next used. I always put hot water bottles in their beds before they arrive anyway.

Then I'm going to make a batch of Bolognese sauce, some for tonight and some for the freezer, and I'm going to make a chicken curry for myself - again some to eat tomorrow and some for the freezer, I like mine mild and sweet and Mr Dilemma likes his sour and hotter, so he makes his own. He actually puts branston pickle in his! I'm going to make enough sauce so that I can make some tuna curry for my lunches too. Mr Dilemma doesn't like hot tuna so it's just for me. Morrison's used to sell tuna curry in pouches but they haven't done that for several years. Mr Dilemma will take over the kitchen tomorrow to make himself some chilli, which I can't stand - so I will have my delicious chicken curry and he can have his stinky chilli tomorrow night.

There is always laundry to do - Mr Dilemma has just put a load on. I need to re-print a letter to my elderly demented uncle, and I have received something from Western Power about being on their at risk register, which I need to complete and send off.

I will also double-check the Morrison's order, which is due to be delivered tomorrow morning.

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I love the peg dolls! I've had two coffees and a croissant then a cuppa. I'm having a slow start to the day. Shortly I'll have a shower then make soup. Two lots: lentil soup and butternut squash and sweet potato. This afternoon I'm meeting a friend for coffee and cake. So a pleasant day ahead. Have a good day all

shitshow1976 · 07/09/2025 09:31

Good morning everyone, we're still at our caravan in Peak district. Just chilling with a cuppa. Going to take the dog for a walk and then come back for for a nice cooked breakfast.
We'll head home early afternoon, got some bits to do at Home then a nice roast beef dinner, a soak in the bath and a film before bed....

BunnyLover7 · 07/09/2025 09:36

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone. Raining here in Cornwall. Awake since about 6. DH slept til gone 8 - tired from his bike ride yesterday. DD16 had her usual nocturnal wanderings. We’ve had to speak to her about noise travelling as our room is right above the kitchen & she decided that moving furniture was a good idea at gone midnight! She’s out for a walk in a jacket with no hood. DH & I have not long finished a cuppa in bed & are both doom scrolling. I nearly ordered a pair of purple supposedly orthopaedic ankle boots then read the Trustpilot reviews which were awful! Been caught out a few times lately with dresses that were nothing like the photos 😢 As it’s wet, I’ll carry on decluttering the bedroom. Three more drawers of the bedside cabinet, the drawer under the bed, 2 chests of drawers & possibly the bottom of the wardrobe although that’s going to be a mammoth task! I did the dishwasher when I went down to make the tea. Defrosted a large chicken & will peel a shed load of spuds later. I always do a lot. DD won’t eat the roast dinner but will have roast potatoes with gravy. I’m doing stuffing, cauliflower cheese for me & peas. We’ll probably watch a film tonight. Tried “ Good Will Hunting” last night but we were both quite sleepy by the time we put it on, plus the dialogue was hard to decipher in places. Have a good Sunday all 🙂

PegDope · 07/09/2025 09:39

We’re back from the gym and just finished bacon and eggs for breakfast.

I’ve to nip into town to exchange a bag I bought yesterday that has some damage on it.

This afternoon I’m teaching DD to make low carb cottage pie with swede mash instead of potato. That’ll be for dinner with enough leftovers for us to bring for lunch tomorrow.

Then I’m hitting the sofa with the latest Strike novel which I am devouring.

Kim82 · 07/09/2025 09:39

Good morning everyone. I was up at 7.20am this morning, fed the cats then had a nice 2 hours to myself just scrolling and drinking tea before dd11 hot up. Dh is getting up as I type and dd18 is still asleep.

I’ve woken up feeling very motivated today so I plan on cleaning the house from top to bottom. I need to strip all the beds too and iron my work clothes and dd11’s school uniform.

We’re having egg fried rice, salt and pepper chicken and curry for tea tonight (made at home unfortunately, not a takeaway 😂) then we’ll watch a bit of tv and all have showers ready for the week of work and school.

I’d better get off my backside and start stripping beds now that people are awake…

rainbowstardrops · 07/09/2025 09:40

Morning everyone. I’m exhausted because it was DS’s last cricket match of the season last night and he didn’t come in until after 2am. Once I’m awake, I’m awake and I didn’t nod back off until 4.30am. Then awake just after 6am 💤
I have so much to do because it’s ‘D’H’s birthday tomorrow and I’m not organised at all, plus washing to do, dinner planning/online food shop. Am I getting on with it? Am I heck! I’m sat scrolling through MN!!!

JimmyGiraffe · 07/09/2025 09:40

It’s a gorgeous day so we’re going to a nearby National Trust property, to enjoy being outdoors

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 07/09/2025 09:41

I'm up and feeling very delicate after being out all day with the girls yesterday... not looking forward to checking my online banking today 😬

I'm steeling myself to get some washing on as DS2 rolled in during the early hours and wasn't very well 🤮 sorry for TMI at this time of the day! I sorted his bedding out at 4.30 this morning but need to see the full damage in the daylight!

Then jm meeting my mum for coffee and cake this afternoon when I feel a bit more human.

Thislittlekitten · 07/09/2025 09:45

Morning everyone.

@lucysmam I love your peg dolls and how creative you are. I keep saying I want to learn how to crochet this year.

Im not too long up. Had horrible sleeps the last two nights. I’ve let DDog out for a pee but he’ll need a good walk. Dcats are fed. I’ve seen DD off to a club.

DH is making a cup of tea for us then I need to get up and about. Usual chores to do. DS has homework to do.

We are going to visit my mum later.

DH is making tea tonight. Not sure what it will be. Also looking forward to starting my new book.

Mumteedum · 07/09/2025 09:45

Hello all.

Didn't sleep well so will take it as easy as I can today. Main tasks are popping to shop for packed lunch food for DS who does not like anything anymore. It's driving me bonkers. He may survive y10 on crisps and apples at this rate. Hmm

And I did promise to do Yorkshire puds today. Bangers and mash for DS with them and I might do a cauliflower cheese for me.

I must ring mum too and my bestie.

Nice boring Sunday.

Iamnotaloggrip · 07/09/2025 09:47

Up at 7.30 and enjoyed several coffees in peace. Made DD a bacon butty when she appeared and put a beef casserole in the slow cooker for later. Need to go and have a shower now then will take her to swimming. Loads of jobs around the house to do this afternoon - DD complained yesterday it would be a ‘boring day’ 😂. True my love but it needs doing! Might see if any of her friends are around to play.

Also making soup later - butternut squash and sweet potato. How do you do yours @LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand ? Would also love your lentil soup recipe as the last one I made was far too thick…

Have lovely Sundays all!

PearlsPearl · 07/09/2025 09:49

Morning @lucysmam and all. Love the peg dolls!

Currently sat waiting for the first of 4 trains to take us home to Scotland from Kent today. Came down for a family wedding which was wonderful. But 7 hours of trains won’t be.

Can’t wait to get home and see my dogs! Dinner will be freezer bits.

lucysmam · 07/09/2025 09:49

@Thislittlekitten it took me ages to "get" crochet then all of a sudden it clicked! I love Elizabeth, I think she's my favourite ever out of the hundreds I've painted!
