Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, after a nice long cuddle with boy cat 😊. I have the washer on already & am going to nip up and remind dd1 that she wanted to be up early when I've typed this. So not my usual weekend morning quiet start. The kittens have gone back up to bed after their breakfast.

I'm dying dd1's hair today <yay!>. She was getting up early to do it, then nip to Lidl for the veg she fancied with today's roast, and some cheese for a cheese sauce.

The rest of the day will probably be spent watching a few episodes of The Rookie, with dd2, while she does some Health and Social Care work for school, and I start some peg dolls. I didn't get round to starting them yesterday 🤷‍♀️.

We'll have the roast for tea, then all chip in cleaning the kitchen, before showers all round - maybe not dd1 actually, she'll want to avoid washing as much as possible! My usual Self-Care-Sunday scrubby shower for me, followed by refreshing my toenail polish then an hour or two with my book before bed, ready for work tomorrow 💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

@lucysmam aren’t they lovely! That Queen Elizabeth one is exquisite, I can’t imagine doing anything so fiddly 😍

SeaAndStars · 07/09/2025 09:53

I so enjoy these threads and love picturing everyone going about their Sunday morning treats and routines.

Just had a bacon and eggs with home made marmalade on toast. Torrential rain and thunder and lightening here so we had candles lit on the breakfast table. I'm going to make the most of the rain here to hole up inside and finish painting the spare bedroom. Hoping the rain will clear later so that I can nip to the sea for a swim.

Looking forward to cosying up with a film this evening.

Have a lovely day everyone.

gingercat02 · 07/09/2025 09:53

I'm just finishing breakfast and the off to PiYo, back to the usual routine now the Sumner is over.
Late night last night as we had a few glasses of wine when we came back from DH birthday dinner, got sucked into watching Bryan Adams on BBC 2 💙

DS is going to meet his friends who are doing the Great North Run, DH and I will watch the F1 and chill.

We have 2 hours of free electricity from 12-2 (thanks Octopus) so I will get a wash on, put the dishwasher on and run the hoover round.

No plans for this evening, we'll probably watch the Inheritance.

@lucysmam presumably you haven't moved yet. How is the house hunting going?

Meadowfinch · 07/09/2025 09:54

Chores. We were out all day yesterday so I'm catching up.

Then making jam, hanging a new mirror, picking blackberries for bottling. DS is working on his EPQ.

QueenClinomania · 07/09/2025 09:55

Good morning all.
I'm working. I make miniatures.
Ignore how messy I am. 🤣

The one I'm holding is going to be a 1:148th scale victorian sweet shop on a wood slice base

Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

@Zippedydodah you've reminded me I still need to get yarn out for the butterfly or jellyfish!

The peg dolls go on displays at work, some in classrooms, some outside them. Most of the ones I did over the summer hols are part of a historical timeline in Y1.

They are amazing! The Elizabeth I is wonderful. I love the Tudors

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/09/2025 09:57

My daughter and her friend have gone abroad for the 1st time. I'm looking after her friends pet rabbits, so going down there later to feed them. Her flat is a bit of a mess so I've said I would sort it for her while they are away.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 07/09/2025 10:04

@Iamnotaloggrip , it's make it up as I go!
Butternut squash and sweet potato:
I cut the squash into chunks with the skin on and roast them until tender. Similarly sweet potato although today I'm using frozen sweets potato. Then soften an onion with garlic, add the squash and sweet potato and chicken stock. Let it simmer then blitz it while warm and stir in coconut milk. Sometimes I add an apple at the roast stage. Sometimes I add a little chilli.
Lentil soup:
Two potatoes, two stalks of celery, one leek, three carrots; one grated. 300gm of lentils(I use red ones) and 2 litres of stock(2 ham &2 chicken cubes) then stick it in the slow cooker and leave all day

lucysmam · 07/09/2025 10:05

@gingercat02 no. It's not going well. So many agents pass the info for anyone interested for the LL to pick from & we're never top of the list. Or they want over a grand which is so close to my monthly wage it's just not do-able (and this is not the best area!). It's utterly shite. I've seen a couple more to request viewings on tomorrow - one's very near my work - so we'll see how they go.

@QueenClinomania that looks fun I do NOT need another hobby to try my hand at. Do you sell them?

Good morning, sat with another coffee here. I’ve been up since 2ish after sleeping awfully. We have my husbands relative moving in so really need to sort spare room (not happy about said fact so avoided it till now). Then try and brave the rain then a day of batch cooking as we both have stupidly long days this week

Thanks! Adding coconut milk sounds delish so if we’ve got some I’ll chuck it in. Apple too, we’ve loads after DS decided he didn’t like them any more (after eating them solidly all summer 🙄) Will try the lentil recipe another day.

61here · 07/09/2025 10:24

Off to my daughters for Sunday lunch shortly. My other daughter will come to so we will have 5 children running about so the bouncy castle is going up. Suitcases are packed ready for out trip to Scotland tomorrow so I can have a chilled out time when we get back!

Chiavennasca · 07/09/2025 10:43

I’m having a lazy Sunday. Not leaving the house. Tomorrows my first day back at work after 10 weeks off (due to bereavement of my mother) so I feel very nervous about my return tomorrow. Confused

I forgot to say, the skin of the butternut squash comes off really easily once it's been roasted, which is why I leave it on.

PearlsPearl · 07/09/2025 10:56

Best of luck @Chiavennasca its always hard going back after a break. And I’m sorry for your loss.

OneLilacEagle · 07/09/2025 10:58

Good morning all.
It's a bit of a grey morning here and DS has woken up with a bad sore throat and temperature. There's a lot of covid going round here but hopefully he'll feel better after a laze on the sofa. DH is doing something with the extension foundations and I'll do an hour of admin / house stuff after I finish my coffee. I need to get the Korean bbq brisket in the slow cooker for dinner tonight, too. At the moment, it feels like our weekends are quite dull and quiet as we have so much on during the week that the weekend is all catching up. I'm hoping to drop a day at work to give me / us some breathing space but we'll see how that pans out.
I'd like to fit in some Japanese and crafting later this afternoon and maybe a movie with the sickly wean. Have a good day, everyone.

Thanks. Yes I do. Mostly to the USA, they are really into micro miniatures in America.

MadisonMarieParksValetta · 07/09/2025 11:17

Very dull miserable day in my part of Scotland. I have shoved all the food I had into the slow cooker and hoping it will resemble a dinner. Going to sort the school clothes soon. My eldest aged 12 is still asleep! My youngest aged 8 is gaming. Husband was out last night and it would be an understatement to say he's not feeling his best. So a very lazy indoors day here.

Happy Sunday all!

Tarkan · 07/09/2025 11:21

Morning lucysmam and all!

DH and I went to see Book of Mormon yesterday and had a few drinks out in Aberdeen afterwards. Stayed at my parents house afterwards so we’re at theirs today housesitting as they’re off to Glasgow for a gig.

Currently watching the Great North Run and trying to work out what to make for dinner for me and youngest DC tonight. Eldest is away at a ComicCon again this weekend and DH is working tonight so at least it’s just the two of us I have to feed.

downundergirl · 07/09/2025 11:24

Father’s Day here in Australia. Had a wonderful day celebrating with the family. Chilling now with a few wines.
Wishing you all a fantastic Sunday 😊

dontforgetme · 07/09/2025 11:50

Good morning @lucysmam and all! I have just about made it before afternoon kicks in.

It’s about ready to lash it down in my neck of the woods, I’m just sitting in the kitchen enjoying the breeze through the back doors. I am constantly fucking boiling lately! Have cleaned the kitchen from last nights BBQ and put a beef stew in the slow cooker for tonight’s dinner. Kids are on their devices but will get them off soon and get ready, going to take them to cinema this afternoon. We’re finally seeing Bad Guys 2, really looking forward to it, we all loved the first and I’ve been told I will laugh out loud throughout. After will be home for stew then baths/showers and another ep of Wednesday before they go off to bed. Dp and I will watch the latest Alien ep then I’ll hit the sack. I’m either tired or boiling or both at the moment!

We’ve had a really chilled weekend, kids needed it after back to school week.

Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday.

@DilemmaDelilahI have never thought of adding branston pickle to my curries but it sounds delicious, right up my street! Will try that Friday I think!

HelpMeGetThrough · 07/09/2025 11:53

I’m going to attempt to do nothing today, apart from I might have a geeky session programming on the laptop later. My excuse to do nothing is, I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and it’s decided to have a go at my spine and hips, so it’s pretty painful.

I have been volunteered to cook a chicken curry later, as the youngest hasn’t tried it yet (he’s been away for two months) and the eldest and my OH have been bigging it up. Not sure why, I’m not exactly James Martin when it comes to the kitchen, although I can cook a wicked pasty!!

Echobelly · 07/09/2025 11:56

Been to the gym, the afternoon very much of two parts. First going to a vigil for Gaza and hostages held by a group supporting an Israeli-Palestinian group working for peace and reconciliation and sharing stories from hostages and people in Gaza. I'm Jewish and I think it's important that lots of passers by can see Jewish people and Palestinians standing together. It's a lovely and thought provoking event.

After that, a picnic with friends
