Good Morning Everyone! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in my kitchen spot as always. The kittens have been fed & vanished back to bed, and no-one else is up yet so it's nice and quiet. Perfect start to the weekend.

I've set the washer going with work stuff while I wait for dd2 to appear with her uniform. That might take a while though so it may get washed tomorrow instead 🤔.

I'm off to town with dd1 today, to buy a couple of suitcases to move her to uni next weekend. The plan is to do a click and collect order for bedding, pans and food, for next Saturday morning, so we're not lugging masses of stuff across London. Anything she's missing we'll either send, or transfer money for, while she's there, since she's ten mins from quite a variety of supermarkets and shops.

Dd2 didn't want to come with us, so she'll stay here with dad & probably do any homework that was given this week.

Hopefully we'll not be out too long and when we get in, I can start on some more peg dolls. I still have a fair few sets on my list & it keeps growing! I also want to get out yarn for either a crochet butterfly or jellyfish. Not sure which yet 🤔.

I have no idea what we're having for tea, we'll look when we get in & decide then.

What about all of you? 🙂

Still in bed with coffee. Have a haircut this afternoon but nothing else planned. I do need to deal with the mountain of apples and plums I've been given, and the greenhouse needs a good clear out so that will probably be today's activities.
Meatball shakshusha for dinner.

WhineAndWine1 · 06/09/2025 09:18

I am ridiculously excited to go to a new supermarket “concept” that opened in Edinburgh during the week called greens on the go. They sell the best fudge donuts from Fishers and Donaldson so no more treks to St Andrews for them. I was also planning to buy new boots and a new autumn coat as I am down two dress sizes thanks to MJ but had a vets bill of £400 so that my fun money away and since it’s pre existing it’s not covered by insurance 😭.

twistyizzy · 06/09/2025 09:21

Babysat my mum with Parkinson's last night as Dad away then home to get DD to school. Back to check mum and then did dog and horses.
Scurrying around cleaning before picking DD up from school and taking her riding then back to mum to make her tea etc.

Fun Saturday!

Hillrunning · 06/09/2025 09:21

Ive come back to bed with tea. Let one cat in, other is still outside adventuring. I saved today to prep for a possible interview but found out yesterday that I wasn't shortlisted so now im sad and have no plans.

Things I could do are go for a bouldering session, sort through my wardrobe for donations, or search for other jobs. I need to find a way to get this grumpiness out of me.

Thislittlekitten · 06/09/2025 09:31

Morning everyone.

I have taken ddog out for a walk. Contemplating what to have for breakfast. I have all of our dishes to wash still. Dishwasher broken and was too exhausted last night.

DH has taken DS to his club. DD still in bed. I’m taking her out later.

Im hoping for a quiet evening. Work hasn’t been the best and I just want to cuddle up in my blanket with my book and the cats and dog.

shitshow1976 · 06/09/2025 09:33

Good morning everyone, I love these threads.
Myself and DP have come up to our caravan (seasonal pitch) in the peak district.
We've not been up here for 6 weeks as moved house and had a nice 3 week holiday abroad.
We're currently having a cuppa and chilling. Slightly sore heads after drinking too much wine last night at the clubhouse, we entered the quiz (did very poor) and played bingo.

I'm going to pop down to the nearby M+S food hall to get some bits for a lazy breakfast and posh snacks for later whilst DP does some bits round the caravan. After breakfast we'll take the dog for a long walk and tonight were going to go down the village pub for a nice meal.

Nice chilled weekend, much needed.
Adult kids are all doing their own things so it's nice its just us for a change.
Hope you all have a good weekend.

Hoppinggreen · 06/09/2025 09:35

I don't know what i am going to do today. I have a nasty cold so feel too crappy to do anything BUT not crappy enough not to get bored if I just sit here doing nothing all day

DilemmaDelilah · 06/09/2025 09:37

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I had oral surgery yesterday to remove the roots of my 2 baby top canine teeth, which wasn't anywhere near as bad as I had been worried about and which is not painful today, thank goodness. I have stitches to close the cavities so I have to be a bit careful about what I eat for a few days, so I have taken some pre-made mushy food out of the freezer. Yesterday was cottage pie.
Tonight will be savoury mixed pork and vegetables with new potatoes. Tomorrow is spaghetti bolognese (which I need to make... I will need to ask Mr Dilemma to get the mince out of the freezer)
If I still need something soft for Monday I have some stuffed marrow in the freezer I can take out, or some boil in the bag cod in butter sauce, so I'm all sorted.

Any stress, whether physical or mental, makes me exhausted so I'm staying in bed this morning. I have a bit of paperwork to do this afternoon, but that's about it.

My BIL and his husband have let us know they're going to be down our way in the next couple of months and asked if they can come to stay, which will be nice. BIL is vegan so I will need to find a couple of nice things to cook for him. We are eating a lot of stir fries at the moment so it should be easy enough to do one of those with cashew nuts or something for protein. We like cashew nuts in our stir fries as well so I always have some in the cupboard. I made him a mushroom and chestnut bourguinon last time which went down well, but I can't do that EVERY time he comes! His husband is definitely NOT vegan which makes things a little more difficult. I expect they will only be here for a night. His husband is not very mobile which poses a bit of a problem. We have a downstairs shower room, but he will probably have to sleep on the sofa as I'm not sure he will manage to get upstairs. I don't want to split them up but unless BIL sleeps on the floor there really isn't room for both of them downstairs.... Although I did 'lend' my daughter a Z-bed years ago, which she may still have. She would have kept it in the shed if she does so the mattress would be ruined, but we have a foam mattress we could use that I take when we go on holiday, as I need a really soft bed.

ShipshapeShore · 06/09/2025 09:38

Much needed city trip with DH later for just hanging out and having food and drinks. It's our anniversary and last few weeks have been tough with various things happening. Also need to tidy like mad for estate agent photos in the week - I am nowhere near ready and feeling very stressed!

Rocknrollstar · 06/09/2025 09:39

Still in bed with second cup of coffee. DD has taken first shift visiting DH in hospital and I will take over after lunch (he should be home tomorrow). Going out for dinner this evening for GDs birthday.

Icantremembermyusername · 06/09/2025 09:46

Good morning!
I am child free this weekend and after 3 weeks of a viral infection I have FINALLY got my taste and smell back! So DP and I are off out for a fancy pants lunch and a some gentle day drinking 🥳
I’d better get the house sorted now as I won’t want to later…

Zippedydodah · 06/09/2025 09:52

Good morning @lucysmam & crew, it’s a quiet, cloudy and cool start here, we’re back from the dogs walk and having a coffee, plus a toasted ham and avocado sandwich for me.
ZDog2 has had a bath, she loves rolling so it’s a regular thing for her. She grumbles a bit but now smells quite delightful! She and DH are snoozing, so that’s the morning sorted for them!
I’ve hung one load of washing out, two more to go, cleaned the bathroom and emptied the dishwasher.
i want to do some drawing today, probably down in my Shed, but besides that I don’t have anything planned.
Dinner’s going to be fridge diving, I cba to faff around so we’ll be eating lots of odds and ends with some wedge potatoes or something 🤷🏼‍♀️

Good Morning Everyone! What's everyone up to today?
mondaytosunday · 06/09/2025 09:56

Hi @lucysmam- as I did this last year I recommend getting those plastic plaid zipped large laundry bags off Amazon instead of suitcases. Then your DD can fold them down flat to store and use one as a laundry bag.
We are off to the Freud Museum today. Lunch first and it’s north London which I’m not that familiar with (we are SW) but she’s been wanting to go all summer. Then a trip to storage unit either before or after to retrieve some Autumn decs (I was supposed to do this last weekend but never did). She’s got a ‘last hurrah’ girlie sleepover Monday before they all head back to their respective unis so that means cleaning (we are not tidy people). Then collapsing tonight with something quick to cook.

Shinyandnew1 · 06/09/2025 10:01

I was going to say similar-don't get suitcases as they take up so much room in their rooms (unless you are going to take them back with you but that will end up being a pain when moving the other end). Get big squashy holdalls instead

potato08 · 06/09/2025 10:01

Had a coffee, 2 x loads of washing done and on the line.
Woke up to yet another email query re: a funeral I'm helping to arrange (long story...) It's all rather brought back the memories of arranging my dad's funeral 10 years ago 💔
Not much planned for today.
Dd1 out with bf, dd2 rotting in bed which is driving me crazy as she has lots to do, and dh is in a foul mood (pretty usual these days).
I might clean the windows upstairs
whoo hoo

frozendaisy · 06/09/2025 10:07

Morning all,

Finishing probably my last coffee of the day but have been drinking it since 7.30am ish, H&Youngster out running about a muddy field but will be back shortly. And we have our weekend adopted teen later. I've cleared the front room, the teen just needs to hoover it now and it will be presentable. I'm at the beginning of the usual big autumn declutter reset, it's a lot of work but so satisfying.

In between just getting ready for the first full time week for all of us.
Eldest is in his first choice 6th form and had a brilliant induction day last week, which is a relief but his self-organisation skills need swiftly upskilling! As subjects are finally decided, well he might add an A'level but he thought he might swap one over awaiting delivery of £32 textbook, one textbook, £32!! I don't spend that on art books........well I would be haven't for a while.

Will get outstanding laundry on the line and go through past GCSE notes and recycle slowly, as it's a lot of heavy dead paper to have hanging around, our house isn't that big. Attempt to give H some sympathy because he had a surprise tooth extraction yesterday lunchtime.

Youngster's school have put a call out for winter coat collections, so it's an excuse to go through and create, hopefully create, some workable space in the porch.

Oven fast food for the teens later, I'm going to make a spicy squash soup for the adults. Board game or two, finish Wednesday series, we have been pacing ourselves of one episode an evening, Slow Horses starts next week, but that's only one episode a week, probably for the best to be honest.

Enjoy this lovely sunny Saturday all.

OneLilacEagle · 06/09/2025 10:10

Good morning all. Feeling very fragile here after a rare night out with DH. DS was at a sleepover so we're still enjoying the peace this morning whilst readying ourselves for the meltdowns to come. DH is making us bacon sandwiches and I'm having a cup of tea with several sugars! I'm going to watch an episode of a weird Japanese crime drama that I'm watching then do some laundry. I have a few admin things to do then I'm going to put together some flashcards from my Japanese lesson on Wednesday. DS might be home by then and hel'll probably just collapse in front of the telly. DH will do some work on the extension foundations but he's having a slow start this morning after last night's festivities. No ideas for dinner tonight but we will need to get some shopping in as the cupboards are bare. Maybe someone on this thread will inspire me! Have a good day everyone.

youalright · 06/09/2025 10:11

Been cleaning the house now sat with the kids watching simpsons why I have my second cuppa. Going to have a takeaway and movie night tonight if anyone has any film suggestions for age 12dd, 14ds and 2 adults little ones will be in bed.

lucysmam · 06/09/2025 10:11

@mondaytosunday I do actually have a couple of those stashed under my bed! I used them when we moved to keep duvets/pillows/sheets together & make re-making beds easier. I'm not sure I could manage a full one on the train - hence the wheely cases 🤔. Dd's just up so we'll have a chat before we head into town & see what she thinks.

I wore myself out at Cheshire oaks yesterday so will be mostly chilling today. Have taken the pooch out and am going to pop to a craft & food fair now, then home to pack my case ready for a friends wedding abroad next week. Might also make some fondant fancies a la bake off! Not sure what to make for dinner but feel like something cosy and autumnal is in order.

frozendaisy · 06/09/2025 10:21

@youalright - watched the Daniel Craig Bonds with them yet?

mondaytosunday · 06/09/2025 10:21

Ah @lucysmamyou’re in a train! Yikes. Couldn’t see doing that with my DD all the way up to Durham but I’m sure some do. I went to uni in Paris for two years and it was two suitcases that’s it (didn’t need to worry about cooking stuff though).

frozendaisy · 06/09/2025 10:22

Or another Daniel Craig, I'm not obsessed, Knives Out, that's brilliant.

gingercat02 · 06/09/2025 10:23

It's DH birthday so we are just chilling with a coffee waiting for DS to get up.
Cooked breakfast, presents, cake, fizz and dinner out tonight.
Perfect day

BunnyLover7 · 06/09/2025 10:26

Good morning @lucysmam & The Saturday Crew. It actually feels like Sunday as DH is still on holiday. He goes back to work on Monday & I start back Tuesday. We haven’t done much because of the weather but it’s been really nice to potter around together. I’m in bed & thinking very hard about getting up! We were going to go down west to one of my favourite beaches but it’s apparently quite cloudy there plus we haven’t really got organised. So I’ll do a bit more decluttering & photograph a pile of clothes to advertise. I have a load of stuff in the boot to take to a charity shop, probably the Air Ambulance, although it’s a bit hit or miss whether they are taking donations. If the sun continues to shine, I’ll sit in the garden with my book which I haven’t picked up for a couple of weeks. DH will go for a bike ride later. DD16 went out quite early for a walk. We need to speak to her about noisy late night phone conversations. She needs to declutter too - DH & I sorted out the pile which has been steadily growing outside her room for ages but there are still some carrier bags of stuff which we don’t know what she wants to do with. I’ve given up with her room. It depresses me! Do need to get her to take her sheet off though. I nearly fell over when the duvet cover was brought down to wash the other day! Nice easy tea of southern fried chicken thighs, chips & peas. Probably watch a film tonight & maybe hire one if there’s nothing we fancy. I just googled when Strictly starts & it’s in 2 weeks. I didn’t get into it last year so determined to watch this series. Oh & great excitement - need to cut both sets of nails! Will ask DD how I remove the polish she put on my toenails as it wasn’t your average varnish. I wasn’t particularly keen on the colour she chose & would have preferred a brighter shade for the summer. It was nice that she did it though. Talking of DD, her delicates are still in the washing machine so I will hang them out & do another load if there’s enough in the linen basket. The dishwasher needs emptying & I’ll run the hoover round. Moving the stuff on the landing has shown up how dreadful the carpet is & I’m determined to get laminate flooring instead not too far in the future. Everything had been done on the cheap when we moved into our current house. We already have laminate flooring in the lounge, hallway & DD’s room laid by DH. The whole place needs decorating too. Have a lovely day all 🙂
