Do you keep your car keys attached to your house key?

Ive just been knee deep in watching “what’s in my bag” videos.. I know 🤣 pre-kids I was a handbag girl through and through and now my kids are old enough to not need a changing bag or bag full of spares everywhere we go I quite fancy myself a nice handbag again and o just got caught in a sea of ‘what’s in my bag’ while doing some handbag research 🤣

anyway, enough about me. These videos all seem to show people’s car keys.. and I never see any other keys on the chain?! Do people keep them separate?

No. I’d forget either if they weren’t attached. I have my parents key on there too.

TranceNation · 01/09/2025 07:24

Yep all on the one key ring. It seems totally alien to me why anyone would have their car and house keys separate.

Zonder · 01/09/2025 07:25

All together for me. Then it's a big bunch I can't forget.

Much like me, I’m too forgetful to have too many bits to remember to pick up on my way out of the house. All of my keys are on one set of key rings!

Yep, all keys home, car, work even the shed in one ring.

me too, I did wonder if perhaps people take off all the shit keystones and just leave the car keys attached and one nice keyring just to film the video 🤣

I have mine separate... always have!
Sometimes I don't need my car keys. Sometimes I leave my house keys at home.

Funnywonder · 01/09/2025 07:26

My keys are all on the one key ring. I can’t be losing TWO sets of keys several times a day🤣 I have an AirTag on them now!

OddBoots · 01/09/2025 07:26

Mine is separate as the car has some kind of unlocking feature that means it should be kept in a special pouch to stop thieves accessing that feature to steal the car. It is quite annoying but needs must.

ACynicalDad · 01/09/2025 07:27

Yep, bike keys are separate as bulky and only used 1/2 times a week, have a clip so can attach them.

It’s insane that there’s this kind of design flaw with key fobs. Mine is keyless entry but you have to be significantly close to the car and press the button on the handle to use it 🤣

I keep them separate, but I don't drive very often (maybe once or twice a week) so I wouldn't want to be carrying around a car key every day when I didn't need it.

The car key is bulky and annoying, the rest of the keys on the keyring all fit together nicely.

FrothyCothy · 01/09/2025 07:29

Separate for me too - we only have one car and DH does most of the driving but we don’t use it every day so seems easier to keep it separate from our house keys

WhatAWetLettuce · 01/09/2025 07:29

I have different sets, one includes the whole lot, house x3 plus 2 cars. One for house x 3, one for car no 1, one for car no 2.

Captainladder · 01/09/2025 07:29

Seperate for me! When the house key is on our car key, where the ignition is on the car, the house key dangles down and annoys me when I'm driving.
also DH and I share cars and depends on who is going where, and the other car key is held together with cello tape currently so couldn't have a house key on it.
we keep the house and car keys together in the same place at home though.

OhNoNotSusan · 01/09/2025 07:30

separate
dont want a large amount of keys hanging when i am driving

Car keys plural? Surely it's just one extra key.

Separate seeens weird to me. I have mine and DH has his.

We have a single front door key on a bright tag if we just want to take it on a dog walk etc

applegingermint · 01/09/2025 07:31

No, separate. We keep our car keys in a faraday box as driveway theft is common around here. I need my house keys more often than my car keys, so they live in my handbag. I have separate Apple tags for both.

InMyOpenOnion · 01/09/2025 07:35

Separate for me. We have one car but two drivers, and neither us drive very often. The car key lives in a Faraday pouch far from the front door to help prevent theft. Plus it's bulky so we don't want to be carrying it about unnecessarily.

Topseyt123 · 01/09/2025 07:36

House keys and car keys all on the one ring for me. The spares are of course kept separately.

Exactly the same as me 😊

You can buy a doodad that extends that area of effect unfortunately.

Mine are all on one ring with an airtag and the postbox key. When I lived somewhere where car-theft was likely (and my car was new enough to be worth nicking potentially) I used to drop them a deep tin by the door - and put the lid on it if I wasn't going to be using the car for a while, I figured that was as good as those pouches.

TubeScreamer · 01/09/2025 07:46

Separate.
I don’t want to take bulky car keys if I’m just going out to walk the dog.

typicaltuesdaynight · 01/09/2025 07:47

No I used to years ago but not now, it’s meant to be bad for your car key barral to have a love of extra weight on it

Same but I have my daughter's key not my parents.
