Do you keep your car keys attached to your house key?

Ive just been knee deep in watching “what’s in my bag” videos.. I know 🤣 pre-kids I was a handbag girl through and through and now my kids are old enough to not need a changing bag or bag full of spares everywhere we go I quite fancy myself a nice handbag again and o just got caught in a sea of ‘what’s in my bag’ while doing some handbag research 🤣

anyway, enough about me. These videos all seem to show people’s car keys.. and I never see any other keys on the chain?! Do people keep them separate?

Yep, car and house keys together.

MyAcornWood · 01/09/2025 08:59

All attached. Car key, house key (albeit only the main front door), house key for PIL and office unit key… I think that’s it. All attached to a cute photo keyring of my babies 🥰 it makes sense because if I’m locking the door and going out, I’m guaranteed to be in the car.. we live in the middle of nowhere!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/09/2025 09:06

Both front door keys are attached to my and dh’s car keys.
But we have 3 other sets of ‘just house’ keys.

Used to be a “giant bunch” person until a nurse friend told me about horrible injuries caused by keys in car accidents when they get slammed into the knee, for example, by the steering column.

i now just have the one front door key tethered to the car key by an AirTag - but loose from each other - not on the same ring.

I have a different door key that I take out on a lanyard, tucked into clothing, on the dog walk, with its own AirTag.

love the AirTags for keys!

No I keep them separate. I have an annoying habit of dropping my house keys and car key fobs don't like that.

sosorryimnotsorry · 01/09/2025 15:06

I do both! I have my main set of keys which is car key + house keys. But I also have a set of keys which is just house keys which I take out if I’m not taking the car. I also have a set of keys hidden in a lock box so were I ever to loose them or someone need to get in the house they are there.

notacooldad · 01/09/2025 15:07

House and car keys are kept separate.

SoftPillow · 01/09/2025 15:09

Together for me but they aren’t bulky, just a slim fob and two door keys.

I keep mine on a bright string so they’re easy to spot in my handbag.

We have spare car keys if someone needs to drive someone else’s car.

Mine is separate as the car has some kind of unlocking feature that means it should be kept in a special pouch to stop thieves accessing that feature to steal the car. It is quite annoying but needs must.

Mine has this too, but I still keep my car and house keys together.

I stick a bunch of keys (house and car) in the faraday pouch.

triplechoc · 01/09/2025 15:40

Separate now, used to keep them all on one bunch until the day I dropped the lot down a drain in the street as I got out of the car.

Had to knock on neighbours’ doors for help as we couldn’t get in the house for any tools to reach them.

Natsku · 01/09/2025 15:45

Altogether - bulky annoying car key, house key, work key, bike key, and key I can't identify, possibly belongs to a suitcase lock.

zingally · 18/10/2025 12:30

No, mine are separate. Just the way I've always had it! That's the way my parents did it, so I just assumed that's the way it's done.

I think the logic was that if you lose one or the other, you're not totally fucked. You can either get in your house, or in your car.

EverythingElseIsTaken · 18/10/2025 12:41

Separate for me. My car “key” is a fob thing which is quite chunky whereas my house key is a single key on a small key ring so slips in a pocket easily. I often go out without the car so this suits me. Back in the day when my car had an actual key then I had two keys on my keyring. My work keys are a massive bunch so they live in my work bag.

Separate for me. We have one car but two drivers, and neither us drive very often. The car key lives in a Faraday pouch far from the front door to help prevent theft. Plus it's bulky so we don't want to be carrying it about unnecessarily.

Are you me? Exactly the same for us on all levels.

Iamblossom · 18/10/2025 12:45

Separate as when I run I only want to carry my car key
