Please help me find a bra that is soft and comfortable

Bras are making me so miserable.

They dig in and hurt me around my ribs / under my bust, even the non-wired ones. They’re just too tight! Although I am pretty confused about why, because my ribcage measures 32inches and I’m wearing band size 34, so go figure.

I am small chested and would quite happily go braless if I wasn’t self-conscious about it. My under-bust measurement is 32 inches, and at the fullest part I’m 36 inches. So not big. Support is not the most important thing to me, I just want a bra that is comfortable and SOFT and does not dig into me, and is not going to cost me £60 😢 Please can anyone help me out with suggestions?

ETA: I am 38, not breastfeeding.

Have you looked on the S&B forum?

A poster there has been doing stirling work trying to find a supportive but comfortable bralette.

Thanks, no I didn't post there (because I don’t want a stylish or beautiful bra, just one that doesn’t try to torture into me!) Will take a look, thanks!

What cup size are you wearing? It can feel tight on the band because the cup is too small.

I think you are around a 32D from your measurements?

If she could go braless then she's definitely not a D.

I just bought a shapermint bra (which i think I mentioned on the S&B thread!) and it has changed my life. So comfortable. Planning on buying 3 more when payday comes around 😅

I’ve been wearing 34B from M&S (I know everyone thinks they’re crap, but they’re the only shop round here for a semi decent bra, and I am just bamboozled by choice online). I don’t feel like I’m a D, but who knows I’ll try anything at this point because what I have now is not working for me at all.

I have recently discovered Lounge after assuming they were all lingerie but alas they aren’t.

I have a couple of bralets from there and they are my favourites! They are so soft, supportive and not actually that ugly. I have big boobs too!

I can’t find my exact ones online but it’s similar to this

Primark ‘love to lounge’ non wired cotton bras are surprisingly comfy!
for more shape I got a good moulded but non wired one recently from H&M
Basically filter by non wired and cotton

I took a chance on the Shapermint ones and have never looked back, they are amazing!

m00rfarm · 23/08/2025 11:28

I have changed to the uniqlo relaxed bra top - they are fabulous - so comfortable I wear them for sport, for every day use - all the time. And when I fell over and pulled a muscle, I wore them overnight as well for support.

If that’s the size you have been wearing it’s no wonder you are uncomfortable.

do you have a good bra shop you can get measured? The shape and style of bra makes a big difference too.

Don’t get hung up on the letters. D isn’t a big size at all.

the sister size is 34C if you are still uncomfortable as well.

Thank you. I will try some different sizes including 32D. Can I ask why you say it’s no wonder I’m uncomfortable in 34B? Just so I understand? I went for 34 because I thought it would dig in less than a 32. It’s still too tight, so I am sceptical that 32 will be better? My boobs seem to fit into B, I will try D but how will it improve things?
Why do they make bra sizes so illogically?!

I have the M&S flexifit bras and find them really comfortable.

From your measurements I’d try a 32D and a 34C to see which is most comfortable.

It’s because your cup size is too small. You will be borrowing space from the band, hence why you are so uncomfortable.

The bigger band/smaller cup is how they used to fit (and still do at M&S).

I was the same for year - had 36 C bras. I got measured recently and I’m 32DD/E (depending on the bra). My sports bra is a 32F! It really helps if you can get fitted. My boobs are now perkier and I look sooo much better in clothes.

Good luck!!

SirRaymondClench · 23/08/2025 12:41

If you're those measurements OP then you definitely need measuring somewhere that is NOT M&S.
They are just awful for bra measuring and only used to carry a certain range of sizes so would make women 'fit' their bras rather than their actual sizes.
You're bigger than you think and that might be why you're so uncomfortable.
Have you tried the Boob or Bust calculator?
booborbust
I recently have surgery on my boobs and can't wear wired any more but I'm 32E/F and bought a Chantelle Norah bra and it's beyond comfy.

These are good. Primark also does some good ones (with straight straps, not racer back)!

LizzieLazzie · 23/08/2025 14:06

I find M&S body soft full cup non wired to be very comfortable. I had to have breast surgery last year and those bras have been a godsend for my scar tissue.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 23/08/2025 14:10

I just bought a non wired, padded bra from Victoria Secret via Next and i swear its the most comfortable bra ever. I usually wear the cami style bras, but needed a proper bra and this was amazing. Not cheap at £29 but I'll be buying more for sure.

Betheadore · 23/08/2025 14:13

Sounds like you might suit the vest tops that don't need a bra.
I keep looking at the shapermint vests, and would definitely get if I had smaller boobs.
