Does anyone here use Octopus Energy? Would you recommend?

Just off phone with Eon, our current supplier, who want to raise our DD substantially despite the fact that we are £150 in credit.

Am thinking of moving suppliers and wondering about Octopus - does anyone have them?

Yes, very happy with them. I got an excellent fixed deal with them last year when the prices were much lower than now. When my deal ended a few months ago, they offered me (slightly) cheaper deal, even though the prices are higher now. This is the first company, which rewarded me for staying.

💯 They’re even better if you’ve got the EV tarrif to charge your car at home. Plus we’ve got solar panels so more saving there. This is the second month in a row where we haven’t paid for any electricity because we exported so much electricity back to the grid (Octopus pays 15p per KWH) I find their customer service excellent and if you go to them through a referral link then you can get a £50 credit on your bill.

Saved a fortune since switching to octopus, and if you opt into octoplus then you get some good rewards. Love the free Caffè Nero coffee!

Octopus are brilliant. I’ve also heard how amazing their tariffs are for those with an EV.

I’ve been with them for several years, and am perfectly happy with them. There was a glitch installing one of my smart meters - not Octopus’s fault, the installer’s comms were shocking - but Octupus sorted it out and gave me a reasonable amount of compensation, in money not credits, quickly and without quibbling.

I'm with them. I have a variable direct debit - they just take what I've used each month - I have a smart meter. Their app is great

I'm with EDF and never had any issues, however I never have any need to contact them, what are you all getting in touch with your energy suppliers for?

I wonder what happens if people actually do win the big prizes? Do they send you a cheque for £512 or add it to your account and suspend your DD for however many months you'd normally pay that amount over or what?!

They can work particularly well for EV owners and/or people with solar.

We have been customers of theirs for a while with no complaints on a smart tariff, and their solar export tariff is one of the best out there.

They also fitted our smart meter quickly in a timely manner, when our previous supplier couldn't manage it. This was despite the meter no longer being "up to code" after having solar installed. Octopus managed it within 2 weeks of switching and sorted our SEG payments shortly after, when our previous supplier couldn't even give us a date to install a compliant meter. 🤔

They also have a EV charging aggregator network card/app (called electroverse). If you are an Octopus electricity customer then you get an additional discount, which helps when we travel!

Octopus are the same as any other company in that they are great when everything is going well and easy but as soon as something is a tiny bit difficult they just walk away/their customer service falls apart. Literally. For me customer service is judged on how well it does when things go wrong not by just doing what any company should just be doing as a matter of course.

But like pretty much everything else in this country we should be over the moon when companies are just basic customer service ie doing what we pay them for.

I disagree with previous poster, don’t use them for EV charger, find a reputable and experienced local electrician.

Luckily the energy ombudsman agrees with me that Octopus have been an absolute shambles and is helping me get away from them
