I wasn’t very organised this year and when I looked at prices, everything was so expensive.
Im thinking I should get myself organised, save up and book by next Feb?
What do the organised people do?

I’ve booked an apartment in Sardinia for May HT, just waiting for the flights to be released. I’ve also booked a house in Pembrokeshire for next July as we have very specific requirements.

But I love planning holidays 😀

InMyShowgirlEra · 20/08/2025 16:39

I guess it depends where you're planning to go.

We're going away at Christmas and I booked it 18 months ago. It was sold out by January this year.

But we're also going to Cornwall next week and I booked that in May.

Redhairandhottubs · 20/08/2025 16:51

We’re looking at South of France again. We went this year and loved it so much we want to go again, but probably to a different region this time. I expect we’ll book it soon as DP is a planner! We’ll go early June before it gets too hot (kids all grown up so not tied to school holidays).

Crunchymum · 20/08/2025 16:54

Canaries for next summer. Booked in May 2025 for August 2026.

First holiday abroad for me in 14 years and first time DC3 will ever go on a plane (madness as pre kids I went abroad at least 3 times a year!)

We are super organised and like to travel to various places, so to allow with budgeting we book far in advance. We have already booked a city break in October ( that was booked at the start of the year) we booked snowboarding next February this February and we have already booked our summer holiday for next year. We booked that about 18 months in advance. We find by doing that we get a good price, TUI usually has early booking discounts and there are also free child places. It helps with budgeting too as we know what we have to pay for and when.
We are planning to go to Australia in 5 years time and we haven't booked it but we are already saving for it.

I’m going to book by the end of the week, just have take a decision. Probably Ibiza or somewhere in France, I just have no idea where. We used to have a mobile home pre covid in France so am torn on whether to go back to same area or not

BeyondMyWits · 20/08/2025 17:12

Booked a hotel in the gower for a midweek break in May.
Booked a city break to Bonn/Cologne for a long weekend in the summer.

Thinking about a mini river cruise on the Rhine for Xmas markets.

In our 60s, we tend to go for "nice" hotels for shorter breaks nowadays. Especially if there's a decent offer on their loyalty programs - which there tends to be either a year in advance, or just a week ahead.

I'd like to book next summer's holiday by the time the dcs go back to school! We've been leaving it too late the past couple of years and not getting our first choice. But we like to go somewhere different every year so it needs fresh research every time, and we like to avoid driving so we're fussy about location.

BlackeyedSusan · 20/08/2025 17:16

Booked already. Wales.

fussychica · 20/08/2025 17:19

We're booked as far as Jan 26 when we're going to Madeira. Looking at Jordan, France and Northern Portugal/Spain before next summer. Need to book soon. Retired so lots of time available.
I think off peak holidays abroad will be harder to book next year due to the extreme heat in the Med this year which is making people reassess timings and locations.

SquadGoals75 · 20/08/2025 17:34

I’m thinking I might not bother with a foreign holiday next year. Single mum with two kids. All inclusive too expensive, but self catering would be a logistical nightmare, shopping, cooking and cleaning on my own.

garlictwist · 20/08/2025 20:21

I just booked this year's this evening - we are going on Monday to Austria. We are always very last minute and don't book til just before we go. Last year we booked the morning we flew so this is actually quite organised for us!

Whattheduck · 20/08/2025 20:46

It’s my DD’s 21st next year so we are taking her to Paris in April as a surprise
Also its our 30th wedding anniversary in July so just trying to decide where to go will just be the two of us

reluctantbrit · 20/08/2025 20:54

We know that we plan to go to Tuscany, one week villa and a couple of days Florence.

I assume at the moment that I will book around December.

Hayley1256 · 20/08/2025 20:56

I've just booked our July 2026 holiday to Turkey, now look for Oct 2026 & Easter 2027 half terms.

I'd be a bit panicked leaving it until Feb

What do the organised people do?

We’re all booked for next year and also now looking at booking for 2027, just waiting for dates & prices to be released

PrioritisePleasure24 · 20/08/2025 20:59

Slovenia for us two adults next year. We go on our main holiday in September when the schools go back, so haven’t been to this years yet ( Germany). Probably start looking/book before xmas or just after

SouthwarkLass · 20/08/2025 21:07

I've started research but won't start reserving anything until around Easter next year for a September break. I book everything independently. I do check flight prices periodically to see what they are doing.

christologymum · 20/08/2025 21:36

Came back from Turkey in July and within 2 weeks booked Portugal for next July. Same last year. There’s a group of us go so we like to book early with it being a large group, plus prices always seem better to book earlier and tend to get a free child place, plus pay for it monthly over 10 months so doesn’t feel as big an out lay all at once.

CharlotteCChapel · 20/08/2025 21:41

Once we've sold the house. We intend going to the side area of Turkey

ZenNudist · 20/08/2025 21:45

I usually start looking in January and book Easter and May holidays by Mid/ end Feb. August I book a bit later on a whim.

3KidsPlusDdog · 20/08/2025 21:45

I usually book our summer holiday in January.

We are going to Austria and the south of Germany, so I’m currently researching areas and hotels

WhineAndWine1 · 20/08/2025 21:59

Booked for June next year staying at the voyage torba. Can’t wait!

Mandarinaduck · 20/08/2025 22:06

I usually book about 2 weeks before we go. That said, I already have a pretty clear of what I want for next May HT and summer holiday so I don't know why I don't just organise it now!!

On the other hand, my last-minute habit does allow us to accommodate things that crop up at short notice, which has often come in useful.

PassOnThat · 20/08/2025 22:35

A couple of weeks beforehand.
