Choosing the same pack of big knickers from sainsburys as your mum! 10 years ago would not have done either 🤣

I have a six year old unopened bottle of aperol. I threw away the Prosecco bought to mix with it, it had gone off. What has become of me?

BlueEyedBogWitch · 19/08/2025 22:56

Seeing Paul Nicholas this week, being shocked at his appearance, googling to see if he’d been ill lately, and realising that of course he looks rough, he’s eighty fucking one.

Sexy Vince out of Just Good Friends is 81!!!

Thesquaregiraffe · 19/08/2025 23:03

I “had a fall” last year in Greece - the Maid got me up off the floor!?!? 🙄. I’m 51 and am currently with my teenage son going around Alton Towers (!?!? Again).

15minutesaday · 19/08/2025 23:19

Just thought of another one (because I just did it) - standing up then thinking 'now what did I get up to do?' then sitting down again and remembering.

Tortielady · 19/08/2025 23:21

I'm used to police officers, teachers, doctors and other authority figures looking as if they should be in bed with their teddies. What did it for me was prime ministers. When they start to come in with fewer miles on the clock than you, it's downhill all the way.

Fifteen years ago, we got David Cameron who was two years younger than me. The two after that were slightly older, but then along comes Liz Truss, a mere 47 year old and after her, Rishi Sunak. He's 45 now, which is very late Gen X. I'd be surprised if he's ever had Spangles. Hello Codgerville!

I got new carpets last year the youth at my work were giving me odd looks whenever I spoke about them

Ionlywentandbloodydidit · 19/08/2025 23:30

When I left a recent event early to prevent a hangover ….. because I wanted to rearrange my kitchen cupboards the next day.

ThatRareLimeFinch · 19/08/2025 23:41
  • i got excited that id finally got around to filling the annoying crack that happens between the stairs and the wall last week. still look at it every day, nod and tell myself thats a nice bit of caulking i did 😂
  • i sit on the sofa every timewith a blanket over my knees
  • cant get up off said sofa without pulling myself up with the arms as support
  • brought new pillows for the bed that fit the covers perfectly
  • mumble to myself as i walk around 'who left the bloody lights on'

im 31 🙄😂

isitmytime · 19/08/2025 23:42

Getting multiple washings done and dried on the line it’s the highlight of my summer!

ThatRareLimeFinch · 19/08/2025 23:43

also..
refer to my knees as my 'good' knee and my 'bad' knee rather than my left or right

I’ve bored everyone I know to tears going on about my fantastic homegrown corn on the cob this year.

And my green beans, courgettes, rhubarb, strawberries and figs.

But the corn on the cob is the best. Wanna see a pic? 🤓

That is a very nice looking corn! I'd be boring everyone bragging about it too!

I know the posts about falling over and finding it difficult to get up are meant to be very slightly amusing but, as a woman in my 70s (when the fick did this happen??!!!), I urge you to take up exercise, and take it seriously…… especially weight bearing exercise.

I still ski, ice skate, play tennis, swim, walk/hike etc - whereas most of my friends and acquaintances of a similar age are sadly diminished and unfit. It requires a fair bit of effort, but it’s totally worth it.

vipersnest1 · 19/08/2025 23:56

I now eat off a tray if I’m sitting on my sofa rather than having just the plate!
I’m slowly turning into my parents, God bless them.
I am also visited by the joys of arthritis so one knee hurts going upstairs (and sounds like a creaky leather boot) and the other hurts coming down.
I’m seeing a physio tomorrow as I’m now in constant pain after having a steroid injection in the base of the thumb on my dominant hand - I’m totally buggered if there is nothing to be done. 😵‍💫
I have high blood pressure (due to the medications I take for other conditions), having previously always had blood pressure on the low side.
When I went for my HRT review, I had to keep reminding the nurse that I had had a hysterectomy so all of her solicitous advice to make sure I kept my smear tests up to date were pointless as I don’t have a cervix.
I love (not) getting older! 🙄

I actually do all those things - just with a lot of groaning and ungainliness compared with a few years ago.

I'm hoping its peri and I might "bounce back" for another decade or so in the future?

BlueEyedBogWitch · 19/08/2025 23:59

I’m obsessed with my Merlin app - I couldn’t give a fuck about birds until I was 50, now I’m all ‘Oooh, a willow warbler!’

Calliopespa · 19/08/2025 22:31

I wondered what you meant by being excited about "a windy day" until I saw the bit about drying.

I've plenty of windy days thanks to my cpap machine 🤣

Quite a enjoy having a chat with the cows as they watch me potter around the garden.

Also am far more enthusiastic than anyone ought to be about the pretty rock I found on the beach the other day. Even ds (8) looked at me somewhat pityingly when I excitedly showed it to him.

Yes, I’ve got that one as well 😂

Romeiswheretheheartis · 20/08/2025 00:04

I look forward to my evenings when I can sit and crochet (only recently learnt).

Heyhoitsme · 19/08/2025 19:14

We had a carpenter fix our squeaky stairs. Life changing!

@heyhoitsmeIf you don’t mind me asking was it very costly ? Mine have been driving me mad for years !

Just another decade…… you are selling yourself short! I’m 71 and work out with (fairly heavy) dumbbells most days, plus a fair bit of HIIT/cardio. And the skiing, skating etc - forgot biking…

Check out Caroline Girvan, Growingannanas, Heather. Robertson. And, lest I forget, I do the Bowflex 3-minute every single day.
