Watering the garden is my highlight of the day. I’ve got a new expanding hose and it’s a game changer. Whilst I water I pick a few weeds, dead head anything that needs it and harvest my tomatoes. I love it

Nextdoormat · 19/08/2025 19:42

My favourite day is binn day. I love an empty wheelie bin. So sad.

I’ve bored everyone I know to tears going on about my fantastic homegrown corn on the cob this year.

And my green beans, courgettes, rhubarb, strawberries and figs.

But the corn on the cob is the best. Wanna see a pic? 🤓

We have an allotment and I award you 10/10 for that corn. Ours is never that good because DH plants things too close together every.arsing.time 😡

It’s the first time I’ve ever grown it, and everyone said it’s impossible to grow…

What you need is to put your plants in a grid, a foot apart.
Plant something low-growing underneath to suppress weeds and stop the soil drying out. I planted courgettes.
I also used woolly stuff to cover the ground underneath to stop the moisture evaporating and protect the roots.

I swear to God, they’ve had as much care as my pets 😂

Gardening. Weeding and pruning everything back. Watering everything carefully and thoroughly of an evening once the sun has gone down. Reporting to DH with joy the abundance of bees and butterflies we have. Also reporting to DH that I was concerned by lavender had gone 'a bit woody.' Pottering round the garden centre and admiring the (expensive) pruning shears and considering putting them on my Christmas list.

Reader, I am 39 (on Thursday).

When you realise your mother shops for clothes in your new favourite clothes store, and she is 30years older than you. Then discover your MIL shops in your new second favourite store, and she is even older 🤣

Where do we all shop when we hit our 40s? 👀

LlynTegid · 19/08/2025 20:36

When you go to the theatre and think one of the actors looks familiar, because you saw his grandfather on tv in your childhood.

When I read these threads I realise that I’ve always been this way. I was just saying to my Mother the other day, that I wished that more concerts and events were held in the early afternoon so that I could be home for 6.

I was talking with a colleague today about the joyous invention that is day discos! 🤭🕺

Arlanymor · 19/08/2025 20:37

@Lollylolo Happy Birthday Eve Eve! 🎂🥳

OMGtimes3 · 19/08/2025 20:38

You get back home after nine days in hospital but have aged 20 years - and can hardly climb the stairs - thanks to total incompetence.

I can't stand up without groaning (I'm 52). And I think all police officers look about 12.

Didn't you know? That's why it's called 'being a groan up' ☺️

I agree about the police too, they're obviously recruited straight from nursery these days. (And yes, saying "these days" also outs me as an aged person.)

I’m the opposite. The older I get the less I care about mundane stuff like domestic appliances and the like. I would really like a new car, but the old one still runs and I simply can’t be bothered to all the research I’d need to do to get the car I want.

Ferrfoxache · 19/08/2025 20:53

Bought an ice crushing machine from B&Q online and now i just want to crush ice for the heck of it and not because it was for making Frappes and Sex On The Beach Cocktails. . . just because i can 😂🍹

TigerRag · 19/08/2025 20:56

When the consultants you saw as a child are retiring and their replacements look like teenagers

dogcatkitten · 19/08/2025 21:03

When a shop assistant offers to carry your (heavy) shopping to the car for you. Nice though.

jinn2025 · 19/08/2025 21:04

When I ran up the stairs and heard the sounds of my boobs hitting against my stomach. Gravity is not my friend

SwirlingSea · 19/08/2025 21:06

I couldn’t tell between a mature looking yr 6 girl and a young teacher which one was which.

coxesorangepippin · 19/08/2025 21:08

When you go on the monkeys bars or try and do a forward roll

pitiful

Hell, I get exited if the sun is out which means I can get my washing on the line

TheFateNdoftheWedge · 19/08/2025 21:19

I got really excited when some Miele vacuum cleaner bags arrived.
Then I realised I'm almost 50.

DiordreBarlow · 19/08/2025 21:26

I said to my mum that I'd gone through the stage where policemen look young and was aghast to realise I'd got to an age where vicars look young. She replied that to her the Archbishop of Canterbury looked young.

I'm 39 and am exactly the same 😅
