Those who are more "relaxed" about Best Before Dates - would you eat these?

Clearing out the freezer today and I've come across two packs of pigs in blankets that we got from the butcher at Christmas.

Eight months on - would you eat them, or is that a step too far? I'm usually very relaxed about best before dates - there's nothing on the packaging about eat before or best before etc, but with it being pork, even I'm a bit undecided 😂

Yes, they've been in the freezer.

SwedishEdith · 16/08/2025 17:09

If they've been in the freezer, they'll be fine.

Startoftheyear2025 · 16/08/2025 17:09

Yes, I’d eat them.

CissOff · 16/08/2025 17:09

100% I would.

DramaAlpaca · 16/08/2025 17:09

Yes. I wouldn't hesitate. They've been frozen so all is well.

PlutarchHeavensbee · 16/08/2025 17:09

Absolutely.

TomatoSandwiches · 16/08/2025 17:10

If youre defrosting and cooking within 24hrs then go ahead.

BitOutOfPractice · 16/08/2025 17:10

If you don’t want them, I’ll eat them.

Chewbecca · 16/08/2025 17:10

Definitely.
Things last for years in the freezer.

Chocolatecraving · 16/08/2025 17:10

No I wouldn’t.

cantpullthetrigger · 16/08/2025 17:11

No hesitation here. They’ll be fine.
Worst case a bit of freezer burn.

Lafufufu · 16/08/2025 17:18

Yeah i would definitely eat those

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/08/2025 17:19

Yes

Almostwelsh · 16/08/2025 17:19

I used to think things in the freezer would be ok, but I defrosted and cooked a pack of sausages I found in the freezer that had been there a while ( longer than a year) and they were rancid and inedible. It's something to do with fat content I think. Having said that, mine is a frost free freezer and they have a shorter storage time.

If they're off tho , there will be no mistaking it, you wouldn't eat them.

EverythingElseIsTaken · 16/08/2025 17:21

Unless they’ve been defrosted and refrozen then I would definitely cook them and eat them.

StripedPillowcase · 16/08/2025 17:23

Yes, I'd eat them. I've eaten stuff from the bottom of the freezer that was far older.

senua · 16/08/2025 17:26

Hmm. Eat now or save til this Christmas?

Secondary question: how on earth do you have leftover pigs in blankets?Shock

itsachickeninnit · 16/08/2025 17:33

Absolutely. With dipping gravy.

horseplay12 · 16/08/2025 17:34

Def eat them

lljkk · 16/08/2025 17:34

If they smell & taste fine when thawed & cooked, then of course I would eat them. They'll be fine.

Similarly, if they were comfortably in date & tasted off after thawed & cooked I would NOT eat them. it's just a suggestion on the pack.

ImFineItsAllFine · 16/08/2025 17:35

Yep. Stuff stays safe in the freezer. After a few years the texture might not be quite as good but that's about it.

MumoftwoNC · 16/08/2025 17:36

Most recent Christmas? Obviously yes!

If it was Christmas 2012 or something then I'd hesitate.

Momstermash94 · 16/08/2025 17:36

100%. I wouldnt even question it

Yes. As long as you froze them before they went stinky, absolutely.

DwarfBeans · 16/08/2025 17:37

I wouldn’t eat them because I’m vegan but if I wasn’t I’d definitely eat them. Unless the freezer burn is too bad. I vacuum pack some stuff and it lasts for ages in the freezer with no burn.
