Totally confused by M and S food.

I'm on a break so an unfamiliar store. Also cooking facilities are basic. What confusion, so many offers and deals. When you look at the actual " food" it's grim. Processed, full of salt and not remotely healthy.

How things have changed.

@Coffeeishot Thats was the thing! I wasn't sure. They seem to have a lot of deals, multiple buys. Only 2 of us, limitied facilites.
No problem , will be back in my rut soon enough.

IMO the quality of M&S fruit and veg is unsurpassed by any other supermarket. I don’t buy very much else there, but the occasional e.g. quiche or ready meal, is always good.

Nosejobnelly · 24/03/2026 07:17

Don’t buy the ready meals. There’s loads of non or minimally processed food in M&S too you know. Fruit, veg, salads, cheeses, meat/fish, pulses, Thor ice cream is ok etc. I go nowhere near the ready meals.

I'm put off by their huge use of plastic packaging

I thought that till I tried the Aldi posh range ones (sorry, can't remember what they call it). I think they have the edge over M&S kievs.

The ones with Jersey butter? I agree, absolutely gorgeous, much better than M&S's, which were my favourite before.

Did you walk by the fresh fruit, veg, meat, fish, eggs, dairy, bakery etc?

whattheysay · 24/03/2026 08:02

Theres plenty of fresh food in M&S, if you only look at the ready meals you will find it more processed as that’s what ready meals and pre packaged food is. No different to any supermarket. There’s lots of choice in m&s

I've found the opposite. Like may people we've been cutting down on UPF and IMO M&S is the only major food retailer to have really paid attention to the growing demand for low/zero UPF food. Really good choices in everything from bread to ice cream to chocolate, much better than Waitrose for example.
