Think plumber has stolen knickers

WWYD in this situation.

I am having my boiler replaced. A three day job. I have used the plumber before and he seems lovely, is recommended by others too.
He was here yesterday whilst I was at work for most of the day and he was alone in the house. He is coming back today.

I have just come out of the shower to get dressed, and can’t find the knickers I planned to wear today. They are a specific pair that I wear with the dress I will wear today.
The matching bra is there. And the knickers were there the other day. I wore them last week, and remember putting them back when I put the washing away. I have checked the dirty and clean laundry and the washing machine and they are not there.

I know it’s ridiculous but my mind has now moved to the possibility that someone has taken them, and the plumber is the obvious suspect. I have zero evidence apart from the missing knickers. But the thought is obviously sickening as is the thought of him rifling through the drawer (which doesn’t just have underwear in it 😬).

WWYD? Am I being mad? I can’t lock the door to the room or put a camera in there in the 45 mins between now and when he is arriving. I can’t confront him with no evidence. I can’t stop him from coming. Argh! They are nowhere to be seen and a man has had access to my house alone.

The most obvious answer here is that OP has misplaced them

IKR.

3 days to replace a boiler? It only jumps out at me because why does he need to be in your house 3 days when he might be dodgy. Are you having the boiler moved to a completely different place or something?

3 days to replace a boiler is normal and probably good if you live in a housing association property. The worst ive seen happen was EIGHTEEN visits to change a boiler and six radiators

Shitwithsugar · 06/08/2025 16:08

I hope your knickers turn up in a pillow case etc. and he hasn't taken them.

A few years ago we had a decorator in. It wasn't my underwear drawer he searched it was DHs. Only found out after the spare money DH kept in there was stolen he had been away with work for a month.
Only me and DH lived there and neither took the money. The only other person who had access was Mil.

It’s not normal… boiler replacement in the same location is one day’s work

Wow!

Please do the world a favour a join the Police. You'd make a brilliant detective!

First thing you come up with is the Plumber must have done it because all men are perverts and manual workers clearly fall even lower on your scale of judgment.

The only weird, deviant person involved here is you OP. What an utterly sick, twisted, disgusting conclusion to come to. And shame on all the posters agreeing with you.

It's because he is the only person in the house the kids are away no-one else is there and he is alone 🙄

ILockedJillInTheLoft · 06/08/2025 17:35

I think there is a much more obvious answer. It didn’t happen and OP is a perv with a knicker stealing fetish wanting to chat to mumsnetters about it. It wouldn’t be the first time and the bit telling us they usually have two pairs of knickers for each bra is a giveaway as he has said that before when he’s on here pretending to be a woman in other usernames.

This ⬆️

It was the MIL, it was the MIL that done it

Shitwithsugar · 06/08/2025 21:54

@MyrtlethePurpleTurtle I can confirm it wasn't Mil.

The Police believed her when they interviewed her under the spotlight.
Plus she was too nice to commit a crime. In the 46 years I knew her she
was so lovely to me.

CalmShaker · 07/08/2025 00:41

When you noticed them missing, did you say 'oh knickers'?

LadySuzanne · 08/08/2025 12:38

Agapornis · 06/08/2025 13:11

How about a note asking for them to be returned and threatening bad reviews rather than police? Possibly that's less likely to cause him to be violent.

At least you'd have the evidence, and you could still leave the bad reviews. But obviously you don't want to wear them again!

So you would accuse a tradesman of stealing items of underwear, with no evidence?

Then threaten to ruin his reputation by leaving a bad review if he did not return them?

I often find socks and pants balled up in the corner of a duvet cover after they have been taken out of the washing machine, or in the gap between the drum and the seal, or slipped down the back of the airing cupboard or down the side of a bed.

Even if the OP (assuming this thread is real) has turned her house upside down, and still cannot find them, she would still have no evidence that the heating engineer has taken them.

You misunderstood - like the original suggestion, I meant a note that he wouldn't find unless he opened that drawer.

Flatbellyfella · 08/08/2025 13:48

I think they re appeared & OP is embarrassed to update.

Or - she’s run off with the plumber

That's what I assumed.
It's no more unrealistic than the rest of the story.

Peakwarrior · 09/08/2025 19:31

OP did they drop out of your trouser leg at work?

Lurleenlumpkin79 · 12/08/2025 12:48

Aww rubbish! I'm on holiday but I was invested and so I thought I'd come back for a nosey update and she's not updated us like she said she would. Presumably she found the knickers after all down the back of the drawer, so it all became a non issue. 😂

There is a poster on here, constantly posting about knickers, not wearing underwear, mowing their lawn topless, who also talks about having 2 pairs of knickers to match every bra, (which was the giveaway statement), and it is well known by many that “she” is a he, mumsnet fail to ban him though but if you know you know! It’s the same bloke, maybe another account, but it’s the same writing style and wording. Perv.

Ewww! If this is true then it never fails to amaze me, the depths that some men will sink to, just for a bit of wank material. 🤮🤮🤮
