Is anyone else’s predictive text out of control?

Is anyone else’s predictive text out of control? I swear my phone is trying to send me round the bend these past few weeks; it seems to try to suggest words in text that I write and if I’m not on the ball it puts them into the text or only half writes a word I am trying to overwrite it with. If this post makes it out alive with no errors it will be a miracle! WhatsApp seems to be the worst offender. Apple phone. Anyone else?

Yes, me too! I’m almost turning predictive text off because it is so awful.

frecklejuice · 05/08/2025 19:07

Yes and it’s driving me mental especially the half word thing, I’ve sent some weird texts over the last few weeks because I haven’t checked them beforehand!

PrincessFluffyPants · 05/08/2025 19:24

I knew it! I thought I was losing the plot.

Mine goes a step further and actually changes the words I have typed into something else, without highlighting that it's done so!

MsAlignment · 05/08/2025 19:27

It does make writing anything terribly arduous. Sometimes it argues with me about a word and insists on a different version repeatedly while I keep trying to write sense.

I do wonder why I put up with it …

Mine keeps correcting Mike to Milf 😳 I've only ever used the word milf once and my boss is called Mike so I have to be really careful 🤨

Bryonyberries · 05/08/2025 19:37

Mine does this and it looks like I can’t write a paragraph, especially on forums such as this where I don’t always check back as I think I’ve written it correctly then discover words have been changed!

Hardlyworking · 05/08/2025 19:40

Yep, this definitely. It used to be so good and seem to know my intention almost perfectly. Lately it's behaving as others have described and changing perfectly spelt and appropriate words to really odd words unprompted.

I'm guessing it's some kind of new ai integration which is as shit as all other ai

Have you got different language keyboards? Or just English?

icebearforpresident · 05/08/2025 20:14

My autocorrect constantly changes in to on and vice versa (and it is being changed, I’m not typing it wrong). I have a small public instagram page where I post about the books I’ve read. It has basically no followers but one of them is a local, well known, published by a major worldwide publishing company, children’s author. He must think I’m an absolute idiot talking about the characters on a book, instead of in.

RentalWoesNotFun · 05/08/2025 20:33

you is now Tou
can is now Cant
etc. With capitals. Where did the capitals in the middle of a sentence even come from? Just terrible. It even corrects correctly spelled words to some non-word. WTAF 😱

AuntyDepressant · 05/08/2025 20:51

I need to deactivate mine. Urgently. Just today I texted DH to let him know what day the builder was going to fit an extractor Fannie in our basement. Thank god it wasn’t my mother I texted 😳

ElleBelleLou · 05/08/2025 21:10

Mine continues to ‘correct’ Mick to Nick when I’ve never actually by choice typed Nick in my life, whereas my wonderful long term DH-to-be is called Mick and I must type it 24 times a day. How many years is it going to take for my phone to just let me be?!

TheodoraCrumpet · 05/08/2025 21:16

I always remove autocorrect from new devices, but lately the predictive text is almost as bad. I was honestly beginning to think I was losing the plot. Or, as it suggested, listening the plough. The plough!

Bjorkdidit · 05/08/2025 21:24

Yes! Mine I autocorrecting words like is, it or in to I, it did it in this sentence.

It's also adding rogue apostrophes and commas to full stops then starting a new sentence. Oldish cheapy Samsung.

Walkacrossthesand · 05/08/2025 21:39

Mine takes perfectly reasonable words like ‘they’ and changes it to random letters and spaces eg ‘tou oo ii’ - wtf? Not to mention always turning may into May….

Yes, it changes what I am writing to what it thinks I am likely to be writing. As I am Irish, and using Hiberno English, this guess is very often wrong entirely

PrincessFluffyPants · 05/08/2025 22:02

Yes, the autocorrect/predictive whatever changed my perfectly (I’m sure!) typed sentence from “Yes, that would be great!” to “Harold the great!”. Luckily I caught it, I don’t know anyone called Harold and I’m fairly confident I’ve never typed that name before today. I sick of re-typing a whole paragraph or having to quickly send corrections. How do we get this problem fixed? Do we have to march on Parliament or…?

Yes, I switched mine off ages ago

Then one of the updates switched it back on - and I was amazed how much worse things have become. Then it took me forever to find the settings to switch it off again.

This is on iPhone. They used to be really intuitive but not anymore.

Never, mine doesn’t know my name and it’s a perfectly normal name like Jane or Helen. Not once has it predicted it. But it does change it to mad words like crane or melon. Thousands and thousands of times.

My first iPhone was a three and now I’ve got a sixteen and it hasn’t learnt it yet.

lame felon

I'm wondering if autocorrect has been 'improved' by AI recently?

So does mine. It keeps recorrecting me, even after I have changed the word back to what it's supposed to be. It just changed recorrecting into reconnecting after I'd rejected reconnecting and corrected it. It's like having to control a sneaky little I-know-best elf inside the phone.
