Best let them to it

Oh god, yes.

Absentmindedsmile · 19/08/2025 16:01

Ah @PandoraSocks we gave you financial advice about growing your wealth, and that’s how you repay us? I would say typical but that’d be childish.
Lots of love ❤️

Hiya!

Someone (not you) on the Labour isn't Working thread mentioned savings accounts with a 5% return. I delurked and politely asked which one (as my savings interest rate has gone down to 3.75%☹️) and someone (again, not you) very kindly replied.

I thanked them. That was it. I made no more posts on your thread.

None of that means I have to keep quiet about what is posted on the Labour isn't Working thread (or elsewhere on MN).

Similarly Labour isn't Working posters don't have to keep quiet about what they see posted here (or elsewhere on MN). Which they most certainly don't!

A High Court judge has granted an injunction on the Bell Hotel in Epping, which will see it cleared of asylum seekers

The injunction was on breach of planning rules - i.e. not having permission for use for that purpose - rather than any judgment on the policy.

Will this lead to more protests elsewhere?

Who knows? It’s pretty remiss of whoever negotiated the deal not to check the planning situation although why it would differ depending on the occupants is mystifying.

DuncinToffee · 19/08/2025 16:47

As expected

Nigel Farage hails the injunction as a victory and says he hopes it will inspire others to oppose hotels housing asylum seekers in other parts of the country.

Probably.

It was a bit of an oversight not to check planning rules weren't going to be breached before housing people there.

In the words of Dominic Grieve, rabble rousing is unbecoming. Especially in someone who has pretentions to lead the country.

PandoraSocks · 19/08/2025 16:58

"The injunction orders that by 4 pm on 12 September 2025, and until there is a final judgment of the council's claim, the owners must not use, or permit the use of the hotel for accommodating asylum seekers unless planning permission is granted for this purpose"

So it is an interim decision. I guess there will be lots of scrambling about now i.r.o planning permission.

Meanwhile the people in the hotels must feel like the whole of the UK hates them.

SerendipityJane · 19/08/2025 17:03

I bet all the LC/RG commentators are suddenly in awe of the majesty and wisdom of the law.

If it's done peacefully and through the correct channels why not ?

You can't criticise when things are done by by the book.

There have been peaceful protests and counter protests for quite while. I regularly drive past one near us.

It did turn nasty during the farage riots.

I don't like the guy. But I'd find it hard to hang him for that.

i wonder if someone had had a word in his shell like. It would be difficult for him to now pretend he wasn't aware his words carry further than Bazza27 on Reddit.

Absolutely, and all true. Agreed, I don’t know much about the best high interest savings accounts .. investments I might know more.

DuncinToffee · 19/08/2025 19:16

Hi @Absentmindedsmile I didn't realise you lot were already on your 5th thread but now you are here, I am quite intrigued to know who you think works for Labour HQ

I'm Spartacus.

PandoraSocks · 19/08/2025 19:24

Saucery · 19/08/2025 19:32

It’s me. They pay me with the VAT from private schools.

BIossomtoes · 19/08/2025 19:34

It’s definitely not me. Their comms would be infinitely better.
