Tesco clubcard points and Tesco credit card

Queenofheart · 01/08/2025 15:22

I recently got a Tesco credit card with the aim of saving up Clubcard points to use at Christmas or to double up with one of their partner deals once I've built up a good amount.

I also got a card for my DH, and we now use it for everything, then pay it off in full each month. However, I've noticed that I'm hardly earning any points or seeing much build-up of Clubcard £££.

We use the card in a range of stores and spend quite a bit in Tesco itself. For example, I spent around £740 in June and over £2,000 in July, most of which has already been paid off, but I haven’t received the 1 point per £1 that I thought I would get. I’ve only had small amounts, like 4 or 7 points here and there.

Am I missing something? Has anyone else experienced this or can shed some light?
Thanks in advance!

They’ve got a calculator on their site, does it add up to what you’ve been given?

I do the same as you, spend over £100 a week in Tesco and put all other spending on my Tesco Credit card. I do seem to get more points than you though,I use mine to buy my RAC membership, which uses around £100 points a year and leaves me quite a lot left over for Christmas treats. The other advantage of having the club card is the special offers on some products.

I go and check my points every few months when I am online ordering my grocery shop.

Do you check your receipts to make sure that your points are being added on each purchase?

saveforthat · 01/08/2025 17:00

I have a Tesco credit card and when I pay with it I have to tap twice, once for the points to be added and once for the payment. I wonder if something is wrong with yours so it's only taking the payment?

I’ve checked what I spend and not getting any points relative to what I’m spending, I need to contact them to check I think

I’m not aware I have to tap twice 🤦🏼‍♀️

Sorry if obvious question but have you phoned up and linked the creditcard to your clubcard?

Also I realised when spending outside of tesco you only get 1 point per £8 so can take ages to build up

In Tesco only, not elsewhere.

StarlightLady · 02/08/2025 05:53

Phone them and explain the problem, they may be able to make an adjustment.

DongDingBell · 02/08/2025 07:04

We get about £30 of points a quarter for doing what you do.
Ring them. Something isn't quite right.

PS the double tap thing only applies in Tesco. Everywhere else just pay as normal.

Mavvera · 02/08/2025 07:08

Many points cards only give good points in their own store, if you spend elsewhere the points are very low. If you spread your spending you are better off with a cashback card. The M&S card is similar but I do spend a lot in M&S so get more points

UpDo · 02/08/2025 07:11

Sounds like the credit card hasn't been linked to the existing clubcard account.

Nix32 · 02/08/2025 07:14

We spend around £2000 a month on the credit card, including around £200 on the Tesco shop. That generates around £100 in vouchers. Sadly, not as much as it used to!

Mavvera · 02/08/2025 07:15

Does it show on the clubcard account where you earned the points and how many, I think it does for the Tesco related spends, have you checked that.

I don’t it does show where points are earned, just the accumulated points but if you looked daily for a while, you might be able to check if points were added each time you used it. But a phone call to Tesco would be quicker, I have always found them very helpful when I’ve had problems.

Rhaidimiddim · 02/08/2025 12:51

I believe you only get points on money spent actuallly in Tesco's.

I don't shop in Tesco, still get Tesco clubcard points on my Tesco credit card as we use it for everything and pay it off in full every month automatically. You just get more points if you use it in Tesco. We used to live near a Tesco 25 years ago which is partly why we got it.

OP Something is wrong with yours and you need to ring them to sort it. The rare times I have used it in Tesco in the last few months I don't believe I have had to tap it twice, it knows to apply the points.

RentalWoesNotFun · 02/08/2025 12:59

Does it not say at the door of the receipt how many points you earned per transaction? Nectar does

Not so.

Glittertwins · 02/08/2025 14:24

I nearly got caught out paying for petrol in the kiosk at Tesco today as I assumed my Tesco credit card would get recognised (as it does when paying at the pump). The cashier said it doesn’t so I needed to scan my clubcard then pay with contactless.

mamaison · 02/08/2025 14:28

The points are quite pitiful. We did it for a year and I thought there had been some kind of mistake. I did some calculations and it was correct. Have gone back to using the Amex wherever possible. Especially as the voucher boost has gone from x4 to x3 and now x2 value.

Wow this is the kind of amount I was expecting… definitely something amiss

I will definitely be calling them, if it’s correct I’ll be changing to something worthwhile that I can earn points with 😒
