Tesco clubcard points and Tesco credit card

I recently got a Tesco credit card with the aim of saving up Clubcard points to use at Christmas or to double up with one of their partner deals once I've built up a good amount.

I also got a card for my DH, and we now use it for everything, then pay it off in full each month. However, I've noticed that I'm hardly earning any points or seeing much build-up of Clubcard £££.

We use the card in a range of stores and spend quite a bit in Tesco itself. For example, I spent around £740 in June and over £2,000 in July, most of which has already been paid off, but I haven’t received the 1 point per £1 that I thought I would get. I’ve only had small amounts, like 4 or 7 points here and there.

Am I missing something? Has anyone else experienced this or can shed some light?
Thanks in advance!

Now the points can't be changed for anything above double, it's worth checking it's the best option for you. My Natwest rewards CC worked out better for me than the Tesco one did once they got rid of the triple up deal.

Does it not say at the door of the receipt how many points you earned per transaction? Nectar does

I’ve not checked that, I’ll start doing now though

We get about £30 of points a quarter for doing what you do.
Ring them. Something isn't quite right.

PS the double tap thing only applies in Tesco. Everywhere else just pay as normal.

this is good to know, thank you

You only get one point per £1 for shopping at Tesco. Last week I spent £50 in M&S I got 4 points. In fact using the card elsewhere you hardly get any points anymore.

We've used a Tesco credit card for years and the amount of points you get has definitely gone down because they changed it so that money spent outside Tesco was worth a lot less points than in Tesco. Details here https://www.tescobank.com/credit-cards/rewards/. Between that and the rewards now only being with X2 (it was X4 when we first had it) and less places accepting them, I keep thinking i should check if other cards would be better but it's well down the to do list at the moment!

I meant to say we get £45-50 vouchers each quarter spending about £2k a month on the credit card (about £600 of which is probably from tesco itself).

This is my gripe, I would have expected to be earning a decent amount of points by now, but I’m nowhere near. I went through my statement this morning and between June and July I’ve spent nearly £4,000 (some of that is for work purchases, hence the high amount), yet I’ve earned barely any points. I’m going to call them and find out what’s going on. :(

Did you get an answer @Queenofheart ? I think I'm in the same boat

Pinkstarz · 05/08/2025 16:29

Also, it's a bit confusing, maybe for me only, but 5 points for a spend of £4 in Tesco means you will get 4 normal Clubcard points from the transaction plus 1 point for spending £4 through the card in Tesco.

I thought it was 1 point for each £1 spent in Tesco plus a extra 5 points on top of for every £4 spend using CC in Tesco

Nix32 · 05/08/2025 16:41

@Queenofheart Just realised I wasn’t very clear - approximately £24k of spending (only around 10% at Tesco stores) generates @£100in vouchers each year, in total.

yes so spending on my tesco CC I get 1 point for every £4 spent in Tesco and 1 point for every £8 spent elsewhere which is a pittance really.

I thought the same as you, that you got 1 point per £ but no :(

I might look at a different credit card that offers more benefits.

None of the supermarkets are that great with their points. Asda was the best last year and I accumulated a lot of money for my Christmas shop but they've stopped their rewards now. :(

@Queenofheart look into Aviis barclaycard. If you take the one that's £20 fee per month you'll get an intro offer to earn 25000 avios points on a £3000 spend (which sounds like you'll easily make) and then other bonuses with future spend plus avios points. You can obviously use avios to fly around or send points to nectar to spend via there. You can downgrade card after 3 months to fee free but you'll earn less avios per spend.

@Pinkstarz Wow that sounds like a much better one for me I'll have a look at that, thank you :)
