What can I do?

So to continue getting my universal credit I need to tell my work coach what I can do - Not what I can't do. I can't work in Retail, I can't do cleaning jobs, I can't work with the Elderly, I can't work with Animals, I can't work in cafes, I can't work in a place telephoning customers, I can't do a driving job, I can't do anything to do with Outdoors Gardens etc, I can't wash dishes/work in a kitchen do cooking jobs, I can't work in a warehouse, I can't work in an office at a computer etc .... All reasons due to either physical or Mental Health. I'm stuck I can not think of anything genuinely. My work coach wants a list of what I can do for my next appt or i could lose my universal credit. She does not care at all what I can't do. Any ideas appreciated.

@Brunettesmorefun were you having a go at me? I also don't understand your comment. I'm a genuine person and I think other people can see that I've come on here asking for ideas. Do you want me to work in a cafe and tremble serving a customer and spill drinks/food on them for example. I unfortunately suffer with my knees and carpal tunnel syndrome and can not do the cleaning jobs I used to do. I would be a mess working on an Asda check out for example. I'm really pleased to see some people seem to be giving me some helpful replies which I appreciate.

Not ‘having a go’. So many people seem to have lost the ability to be proactive in life. I am sure there are many jobs that you are able to do.

Have a look at a job agency online. We need people contributing more than ever now or this country will go down the pan.

Are there career services for adults anymore?

PennywisePoundFoolish · 31/07/2025 00:09

Tbh supermarkets and even petrol stations will expect more than just sitting on a till. Replenishing, cleaning, coffee machines etc will generally be expected. (I work in a supermarket)

yes when people say you can just stack shelves. No, you have to know how to do everything now.

That's hardly strenuous. The country really will be fucked if people can't do any form of work at all because 'reasons' yet still screech and shout about immigration!

Dreamer2027 · 31/07/2025 00:12

@Brunettesmorefun so your sure there are many jobs I can do and I should just look online? ok sorry I posted. thankyou for helpful replies thankyou to the people who have sent kind replies too but no I won't be coming back.

Gosh, imagine to actually do work tasks! Horrendous

I work out of hours, so predominantly shelf stacking. But there's a lot of cleaning as well as doing online order picking. Plus there's a lot of heavy lifting and kneeling which wouldn't be any good for a person with knee pain and carpal tunnel.

And we're expected to stack shelves fast! We're never fast enough for management, though 😐

depending on your health issues, it can be very strenuous

People here have given you plenty of ideas. Look at Indeed or one of the other agencies and hopefully be inspired. I’m still working at 68 and find it so rewarding.

IMagine having disability or health issue that prevents you from doing them too

I didn't say it was strenuous. The OP can't do cleaning anymore due to severe allergies and carpal tunnel syndrome. I was just making the point that there's very few just sitting at the till type jobs in supermarkets and petrol stations now

Why don't you start a thread about it, instead of taking over the OPs one about her specific situation

how does that help OP? apart from a guilt trip and prob some crap about the rich leaving the UK in their droves whch is not happening.

Upsetbetty · 31/07/2025 00:34

You’ve practically listed every job…you can’t be hands on but can’t be at a computer or phone either? How about picking the one that’s seems the least daunting and aiming to improve on that?

Why would it be a guilt trip? Are you trying to guilt trip me?

CaptainFuture · 31/07/2025 00:38

Mn.... where the majority of posters in similar situations can't possibly do anything at all...

OP is asking for practical help and all you have offered is nothing but guff about how people are not working and costing the UK.
Stop it

Absolutely, gosh so sorry, back in my box.
Keep working little drone, be grateful and happy you get to work and pay tax/childcare, don't really get to see your kids... lucky, wonderful privileged you!

yes get back in it. Learn your privilege.
OP is TRYING her best and asking for advice. You coming on here and wailing about paying taxes is not helpful at all. What are you hoping to achieve?
I am on benefits and I am sick of people like you making out like we are to blame for the county debt.

PennywisePoundFoolish · 31/07/2025 00:47

Anyone can develop a serious health condition at any time. My husband was diagnosed with epilepsy after passing out and crashing his work van(!). He is self-employed. Fortunately his dad had not long retired, and was able to drive him around for a year, and he was allowed to drive again as no seizures.

He's a qualified domestic gas engineer but, if he'd not been able to drive again, he realistically would have only been able to get work at minimum wage in a factory or similar.

The OP can't go back to the work she did. She's also said she's experiencing mental health issues. For those making critical comments, perhaps consider why you feel the need to kick someone who is already down.

Proofreading job?
Do you know any foreign languages so you could do translations, eg. to help with police interviews or at an airport?
