I know, I had to read it a few times to actually get my head around it.
I wouldn’t be so certain that patients haven’t had amputations they didn’t need if this was their surgeons kink.
this story is going to run and run …

Guavafish1 · 23/07/2025 23:02

Need more information… await the trial

3ormorecharacters · 23/07/2025 23:05

Netflix documentary incoming once all is done and dusted I expect. If I'd had an amputation at his hands I'd be lawyering up right now.

It’s that encouraged someone else to cut the limbs of others. I’m assuming that this other person is a surgeon. Why was he so easily led?

No I don't think so. The news report says that "he encouraged Marius Gustavson to remove the body parts of third parties."
I won't post links here, but Marius Gustavson is definitely not a surgeon. There's plenty of reports about his trial online, but only search if you have a strong stomach.

Whatisthisdamnednonsense · 23/07/2025 23:42

He should be in a secure psych unit

caringcarer · 24/07/2025 00:45

Probably has severe mental health issues.

Branleuse · 24/07/2025 00:47

Why are men like this ? Ugh

GentleIron · 24/07/2025 00:51

Is this linked to that odd story which surfaced last year (?) about a little amputation-kink triangle in which three men here in the UK had parts of their bodies amputated by one another, recorded the process and subsequently ate some parts?

placemats · 24/07/2025 01:08

He was charged with insurance fraud. But this is just mind bogglingly off the scale regarding male kinks. Got a bravery award as well.

Wonder if he’ll change his surname to Wobbler now.

JK Rowling wrote about this weird phenomenon in Career of Evil. When I read that book I couldn't believe it!

So just some bloke taking someone’s arm off then? That’s even worse, but does that mean the people whose limbs were removed were willing participants?

RumNotRun · 24/07/2025 07:41

Marius Gustafson was the chap who was known as the "Eunuch maker". That was all very weird.

thebrollachan · 24/07/2025 08:52

I don't think he gave himself sepsis; that would be impossible, surely? One possibility is that, following loss of his toes and soles, he persuaded his surgeon that complete btk removal would give better liveability results (not implausible), but the insurers kicked off because it meant a bigger payout. Once he'd been accused of fraud, the police got a warrant, and found he'd been buying Gustavson's videos online, hence the 'encouragement' charge (mutilation illegal whether consensual or not). The trial should be interesting, if he doesn't cave and plead guilty.

BettyBlackbird · 24/07/2025 09:04

I think he made up the sepsis thing in order to claim money from his insurance company. I suppose they wouldn't pay out if he just wrote, 'Had my legs cut off because that's what turns me on' on the claim form.

That said the story is written so hazily it's hard to make out exactly what went on.

TheWellSungGame · 24/07/2025 09:12

There's an old article about him from Dorset Ortho, they've understandably now pulled it but it's on the Wayback Machine. It has a few quotes that are bloody weird with hindsight

<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20250219020250/www.dorset-ortho.com/offer/neil-hopper-amputation-is-not-the-end-of-the-journey-its-the-beginning" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://web.archive.org/web/20250219020250/www.dorset-ortho.com/offer/neil-hopper-amputation-is-not-the-end-of-the-journey-its-the-beginning

“Having my toes removed was by far the worst part; however when both my legs were amputated, after feeling rotten for months, I felt so much better and it was almost a relief to have it done, explains Neil. “I went home on a high - I was alive!”

Also one about how he was upset when his family weren't fussing over him anymore.

An incredibly weird story. Deeply, deeply weird.
