What have I forgotten for holiday?

Taking dd on her very first holiday abroad for a week and just finalising my list of what to pack.

I think I’ve covered most of it, from plane snacks to travel adaptors to insect repellent, but can anyone give me any suggestions for anything they have taken away (Majorca if it helps!) that they have found invaluable.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been away as well so I feel like I am missing ‘something’, although I am not sure what!

How old is your daughter and what board basis are you?

Ramblethroughthebrambles · 16/07/2025 13:45

Pain killers, insect bite cream, needle & thread, & lightweight waterproofs, though my DH reckons I over pack for worst case scenario. How old is your DD?

FionnulaTheCooler · 16/07/2025 13:48

A bottle of travel wash for washing out swimming stuff in the sink.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 16/07/2025 13:57

I always take an eye mask and earplugs.
Also a couple of face cloths as they don't often supply those. And a few zip lock bags for damp bits and pieces. Some body powder for getting sand off. A really good sun hat.

bunnyapple4 · 16/07/2025 13:59

Sorry should have said, she’s 7 and we are going all inclusive!

Thanks for the suggestions so far, would never have thought of clothes pegs! This is the sort of thing I need to know!

I take a small plug in nightlight, my DC don't like a dark room.

MiddleAgedDread · 16/07/2025 14:06

ah yes, eye mask and ear plugs!
clothes pegs are handy as there's often a washing line or clothes airer but once your swimsuit has blown off the balcony once you live n learn ;)

Ramblethroughthebrambles · 16/07/2025 14:07

If you're taking dresses, a couple of wire coat hangers. You can then steam out creases hanging them in bathroom if wardrobe hangers are fixed. And a couple of extra packing cubes / carrier bags for bringing back dirty washing.

IthasYes · 16/07/2025 14:11

Pirirtn bite cream

HoratioBum · 16/07/2025 18:28

We always take a small Bluetooth speaker for the room for a bit of music in the evenings

more adapters than you think you’ll need - some places have USB charge points but not all and it’s annoying having to keep swapping plugs around. And they’re not always near the bed so I’ve found that a 2m charging cable is invaluable so I can use it in bed when I can’t sleep.

A crossword book ( this might just be me)

Imodium and diarolyte/ other basic medical stuff

Couple of spare hangers - never enough in a hotel room

I usually take some nice snacks to have with an evening drink- i.e a tin of luxury mixed nuts.

Ohmygodthepain · 16/07/2025 18:49

I believe they have shops in Mallorca that sell pretty much everything mentioned on this thread...

I visit every two years and wouldn't have dreamed of taking some of these things, nor ever needed to buy them, especially staying AI.

I bet you'll come home with half your clothes unworn and stuff unused. Have a great trip!

rainbowsandraspberrygin · 16/07/2025 19:18

Lip balm!! Planes dry your face and sore lips are the worst.

MrsJigsaw · 16/07/2025 19:59

Uno!

bunnyapple4 · 16/07/2025 21:39

Got uno! And dobble!

@Ohmygodthepainhaha, you are probably right, but I’d rather be over prepared than under prepared, I am absolutely bricking it taking her away on my own for the first time! Keep wondering when the responsible adult is going to turn up to help me…!

Calpol
Goggles
Underwear ( yep forgot to pack dds once )
Hair bands / toggles

Username12284949 · 16/07/2025 21:44

Water bottles (Stanley/knock off style that keep your drinks cold) to fill up with drinks to save having to go up to the bar constantly while at the pool or to take to your room at nights. I say this while on holiday with my 2 children we brought some and haven’t used them once as we keep forgetting 😂

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 16/07/2025 22:15

Calpol melts for the plane, just in case

EternalLodga · 16/07/2025 22:16

Ive been to quite a few countries where you have to see a gp if you get cystitis. Take sachets

hotbathbookwineheaven · 16/07/2025 22:17

Travel sickness tablets or the bands.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 16/07/2025 22:17

FionnulaTheCooler · 16/07/2025 13:48

A bottle of travel wash for washing out swimming stuff in the sink.

Or laundry sheets like these

What have I forgotten for holiday?
MinnietheMini · 17/07/2025 19:19

EhIC (European Health Insurance Card) for each person in case anyone is ill.

dragonfly52 · 17/07/2025 19:45

Mosquito repellent, citronella candles work well.burn them on your balcony.
Sun cream / after sun
Wet wipes, face moisturiser
Sunglasses
Alot of the stuff that I take i think have been mentioned.
I'm going to Turkey next month, with my partner and I always have a pack list. I always take stuff that are not on my pack list " just incase"
Have a lovely holiday

BrendaSmall · 17/07/2025 20:19

We always take a 4 socket extension lead as there’s never enough sockets In some hotels
i always take a travel size bottle of moisturiser for on the plane as I find my skin dries out so much and lipsyl.
Ive got a drawer at home full of stuff, toiletries, sun oils, after sun, insect stuff, plugs, tooth brushes, toothpast, potions & lotions that I buy when on offer and always chuck in the drawer and then I grab what we need to take with us 🤣 as it’s all kept together nothing gets left behind!

whoateallthecookies · 17/07/2025 20:24

Any medication you usually take, both prescription and over the counter. The things you really need are :

phone
