What have I forgotten for holiday?

Taking dd on her very first holiday abroad for a week and just finalising my list of what to pack.

I think I’ve covered most of it, from plane snacks to travel adaptors to insect repellent, but can anyone give me any suggestions for anything they have taken away (Majorca if it helps!) that they have found invaluable.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been away as well so I feel like I am missing ‘something’, although I am not sure what!

Thanks so much for all the helpful advice, I’ve added a few more things to my list! Pleased to see that I have already got most things people have said so feeling less anxious!

One thing though, I haven’t got a credit card! I’ve got a Monzo card and will put some money on that and will take some Euros as well, that will be ok, right??

look up revolut its a good card and app you can use abroad

And always pay in local currency on card purchases.

Proper mozzie spray with deet. I find other remedies don't work of you're really attractive to mozzies. We also have a mosquito liquid plug in for the room which works well.
Don't see the point of buying toiletries when you're there, you either have to bring what's left home or bin them which is wasteful.
Pegs or hair clips for closing curtains with gaps. Also found many uses for sellotape in room!

Factor 50 Lip balm as sunlight can trigger cold sores and sunburn on lips is painful.

Monzo will be fine, no need for anything more unless you plan to hire a car, when a credit card would be useful, but I probably wouldn't bother, buses are pretty good in Mallorca if you want a trip out anywhere.

But make sure you do have a second card tucked safely away in your hotel room just in case you lose your main card. (I just put this sort of stuff, eg also passports, house keys, in the suitcase, never bother with the hotel safe).

To the PP who says 'you can just buy anything there that you forget', don't you think there's better things to do on holiday than trawling local shops for things you already have, that could well be less good/nice and expensive for what they are?

Definitely check the 'liquids in hand luggage' rule at your outward airport. I didn't realise that the 100 ml limit had been reinstated, even at airports with the new scanners, and had a brand new bottle of (thankfully cheap supermarket stuff and not our only sun cream) taken off me. But since our recent holiday, I've read that it has been lifted at a couple of UK airports, but does still apply at Palma, so anything coming back above 100 ml needs to be in your hold luggage.

Have a great trip.

Yes take euros some of the hotels might run shuttle buses to town so it usually drivers tips or if you do an excursion again drivers tips. Have a great time i love Majorca. Palma airport is huge just be prepared for thinking its never ending 😂

@SheSpeaks ever been for a wee and it feels like you’re passing battery acid? That’s cystitis. Swimming pools, sea water & change in water can set it off on holiday. You can buy sachets you dissolve in water and drink to relieve the symptoms over the counter in chemists in the U.K., brand names include Cymalon, Cystapurin.

You can also use a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water you can help prevent it by wearing cotton gussets keep drinking water (even if you don’t feel particularly thirsty )
cranberry juice is good ( if available as it helps line the bladder prob available at supermarkets if they don’t have it at the hotel
my doctor always gives me a prescription for trimethoprim to take just in case
in Europe you can get wide spectrum anti-biotics over the counter

QuinionsRainbow · 20/07/2025 13:34

Make sure your travel insurance is actually valid for Spain. There are "Europe" policies around that specifically exclude Spain.

Thankfully no I haven’t. I’ve never had anything like that happen but thank you for the honest description!

I guess you're probably coming back tomorrow. Hope you had a lovely holiday with DD.

Did you actually forget anything?

bunnyapple4 · 06/08/2025 22:10

@QuinionsRainbowyes, sadly we are now back home!

No, I didn’t forget anything, and in fact, as I suspected, I went over prepared!

Still, I will know for next time, and there will be a next time as we had a really fantastic time! Exhausted but so glad I bit the bullet, faced my fears and took her away, now I just need to start saving for next summer 😊
