Am I losing my mind or have they changed chicken crisps?

Walkers roast chicken, to be precise. They've been my favourite crisps for many years, and now they taste different. Is it me or have they changed the recipe without mentioning anything. And if so, WHY. They were perfect before, change is not necessary!

Ooh, haven't had these for years.

Delicious!

I shall be forced to buy at least three bags tomw to check 😜

You know you want to! There's no information on the bags about a change of recipe, but they taste less chickeny and more herby than before. It's a real shame, but I suppose it's better for my waistline...

I only like plain crisps of any variety, but they have also changed and not as nice.

The last crisp thread on here, the consensus seemed to be that it’s the oil that’s changed. Hence why they taste different

Huh, is that right? That's infuriating.

I have some chicken crisps in at the moment and they taste fine to me, but then I’ve not had them for a long while so could have changed. Tesco ready salted, on the other hand …what have they done? They look and taste like the oldest crappiest potatoes in the field!

LancreWowhawk · 16/07/2025 14:27

DH used to work for a crisp manufacturer, and though the flavour blends rarely change, they often do use different oils for frying, depending on cost and availability. They also use different potato varieties, grown in different places, depending on seasonal changes, which can also affect taste.

The good news is that it's just as likely to change again in future, and given you've never noticed it before, most likely to something you find more palatable.

Walkintheforest · 16/07/2025 15:33

I thought the same. Had them after a long break and they tasted more oily / fatty and not as full of flavour.

Coffeeishot · 16/07/2025 15:35

I think its the salt tbh taken it out ! I quite like morrisons own chicken crisps they taste quite chickeny

edwinbear · 16/07/2025 16:03

@LancreWowhawk working for a crisp manufacturer must surely be up there in terms of the best job in the world!! Did he get free crisps? Sorry to derail OP, but this is an important question 🤣

Whatwouldnanado · 16/07/2025 16:08

Maybe my tastebuds have changed since covid but most crisps taste different now, and I dislike the ‘sweetness’ they seem to have. Even a good grind of black pepper (salt and shake style) doesn’t help. After trying lots of brands I conclude they’re not worth the calories. I miss the M&S Marmite crisps of yore.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 16/07/2025 16:10

Most of them are horrid now, taken the salt out. I stick with lays

LancreWowhawk · 16/07/2025 16:44

@edwinbear This is very outing but screw it - I knew he was a keeper when the first gift he ever gave me was a catering box of 32 packets of chicken crisps from the staff shop.

Sadly, he hasn't worked for them in over a decade, but I was very much living the dream!

TheBuffetInspector · 16/07/2025 16:52

Sainsburys keep sending me free bags of Sea Salt and Crushed Black Peppercorn Kettle chips.

If they'd read the last thread, they'd know I hate Kettle chips. I like Skips!

I thought all Walkers changed a few years ago due to becoming more 'healthy'. I didn't know they still did Roast Chicken. They don't do Roast Beef do they? Discontinued them just as I discovered them... Was that in the 80s?🤣

buzzwizz619 · 16/07/2025 17:19

Nooooo don't say this! I brought a multitasking from Tesco last Friday and they taste wrong .... kinda like McCoy's beef or whatever they are. I assumed it was just a dodgey batch and all would be right in the world next time I buy them. You've got me worried now 😭

Why are they sending you free crisps? Jealous much lol

smallglassbottle · 16/07/2025 17:36

Prawn Skips have changed as well. They're completely tasteless now. Mine ended up in the bin.

stringsoup · 16/07/2025 18:15

So much artificial sweetner in crisps now, puts me right off, yuk

M&S do the best beef and onion crisps, only in a big bag though (shame). Suitable for vegetarians too!

Crispsaremylife · 16/07/2025 18:31

YANBU. I'm mad as hell about it.

DiscoBob · 16/07/2025 18:35

I think they're less salty and less chickeny.
Prawn cocktail I swear are less fishy now as well.
Worcester sauce flavour is crap since they stopped putting anchovies in it. It just tastes like brown sauce?

And bring back beef and onion.

I used to love Worcester sauce, tried them again recently and they are vile 😕
