Do you look like your grandparents?

As I have aged I can see myself looking a bit like my mother’s mother who died in her 60s. It struck me when I saw a photo of her the other day!

I don’t think I look like my other nan and my grandfathers both died before I was born.

Does anyone else think they look like a grandparent?!

I’m the spitting image of my paternal grandmother. I adored her, lost her 22 years ago. I love catching sight of myself & seeing her in me.

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/07/2025 23:28

I look quite a bit like my dad’s mum, I have her cheeks and hair texture.

She adopted my dad.

Bbq1 · 14/07/2025 23:31

I look very like my paternal grandmother. I've only seen photos but we are very alike. Myself, my sister and dn are very alike. My cousin is the absolute double of my maternal grandmother to the extent you would swear it's her in old photos.

Bbq1 · 14/07/2025 23:32

Sadly I never met any of ny 3 grandparents who all sound like amazing people. I enjoy seeing photos and hearing stories about them though.

mrsfollowill · 14/07/2025 23:35

I'm the spit of my paternal grandmother. Quite uncanny looking at photos of her when she was younger. have the same bodyshape as well. One of my cousins is the same. Caught up with her after many years and both look so alike! We both have her mannerisms as well. She's long gone- died when I was early 20's but I remember her well

Summerinthecity25 · 14/07/2025 23:40

It’s funny how it works isn’t it?

I think I look more like my grandmother than my mother and my mother looks more like her father than her mother (if you get what I mean!)

Not so much me but my second daughter looks so much like my maternal grandmother as she gets older. She’s 17 and it actually catches me off guard sometimes when she turns to look at me and I glimpse my grandmother who I adored

Judiezones · 14/07/2025 23:50

I look very like my maternal grandmother. Unfortunately she was a bad-tempered old dragon. My paternal grandmother was absolutely lovely and my equally lovely nephew looks just like her.
My brother, me and all our maternal cousins look like our grandad, even though we don't all look that much like each other

Username2151 · 15/07/2025 01:34

I look like my dad, and he looked exactly like his mother.
I grew up feeling very bad about looking like my paternal grandmother because my mother absolutely hated her, and she made no secret of her bitter disappointment in that.
My oldest DS looks like my dad and I, it's funny how I see absolutely no resemblance to my maternal grandmother or grandfather in any of my DCs.
I find it all very interesting, really.

GarlicMetre · 15/07/2025 01:40

No, I look like one of my great-aunts (mother's maternal aunt). She was an odd-looking woman but I really liked her, so it's all good. Fortunately, I saw this coming and trained myself out of expecting an attractive old age!

I get my hair from my Dad's side, and they all went bald. I seem to be following the pattern 😳

Seacatt · 15/07/2025 01:47

I look like my dad and more so his father, my grandfather.

My grandfather died a long time before I was born, it is so strange looking at photos of someone so like me, especially his eyes.

threesteakspamala · 15/07/2025 02:00

I am the absolute double of my paternal grandmother. The only difference is my eye colour which strangely I got from my maternal grandfather!
Sadly I didn’t meet my dads mum but every time I see both my aunts they will both say randomly how much I look like her, facial expressions too! I even have the same streak of silver hair. Similar personality, a love of romance and a sweet tooth. Even my stupidly wide fat feet!
My dad used to get quite emotional as he was close to her and he’d comment i looked like her.

coxesorangepippin · 15/07/2025 02:51

Absolutely nothing like them at all

Gingerkittykat · 15/07/2025 04:20

The first time I saw a photo of my paternal grandmother it was like looking at a picture of me.

My mum was adopted, and it is only recently that I saw a picture of my maternal great grandmother and there is a huge resemblance there too.

My DD looks like my mum, everyone comments on it. I'm ginger and so is her dad but she is dark haired like my mum but has still got the very pale skin of her parents and not the lovely olive skin my mum had.

NewbieYou · 15/07/2025 04:22

No. I don’t look like anyone in my family except my sister. My dad says I look like his grandmother who I never met but the only thing I have in common with my grandparents is that I have my maternal grandmother’s arse. That’s not a good thing.

Summerinthecity25 · 15/07/2025 08:36

Interesting isn’t it?

We have several adoptions in our family too. Some family members have reunited later in life and they have very similar traits including the long lost cousins who could be brothers.

My son is the spitting image of my granny, it hits me on a regular basis. I have a few pic of her and I regularly look at the eyes and am blown away

blackheartsgirl · 15/07/2025 08:55

Yes!

unfortunately I look like my nan the older I get. Hope I’m not like her in personality .

one of my dds when she was six looked like my gran when she was a similar age, it was uncanny

whitewineandsun · 15/07/2025 08:56

I look like my dad's mum.

SpeakMyLanguage · 15/07/2025 09:00

I don’t, but my mother is the image of her maternal grandmother (but not her Mum!), and both of my children look very like my MIL, their grandma.

Bridport · 15/07/2025 09:11

I was only 2 when my grandmother died but everyone said how much like her I was. I can see a likeness in photos, but apparently it's my mannerisms, the way I dress and carry myself that is so like her. I find this strange because I can't have copied all that before I was 2 can I?

Now I'm older when I look at my hands I completely see my grandfather's hands. They seemed so old to me when I was a child but there they are now on me.

DelphiniumBlue · 15/07/2025 09:19

Apparently, I look like my paternal grandmother from behind! I'm like my paternal grandfather in colouring.

Sonolanona · 15/07/2025 09:37

Every time I look in the mirror I see my Gran looking back😆(I'm 57)
My mother's side... and we ALL look the same! There is a family photo from when I was about 9 with my Mum, Gran, her brothers and my great Gran and a couple of cousins...and it's a mug shot of brown curly hair and big noses (unfortunately I inherited that too!)
None of my kids are dark haired but they all got some curls and two of them got the nose as well!!!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/07/2025 09:46

Can’t say I’ve noticed it for myself, but right after she was born, dd2 was the absolute spit of my maternal granny when she was very old and hadn’t got her teeth in!

Granny was quite a looker in her day, though, and dd2 has followed suit.

anotherwordforit · 15/07/2025 09:53

I’m the double of my dad’s mum!

I suppose for my mum that means she has a DD who is the double of her MIL 😅 My grandma is lovely though.
