Do You Enjoy BBQs?

My family were never really into BBQs when I was growing up, although I always enjoyed barbecued food if I had it. DH & I only bought a BBQ when we moved out of his house into our own ( we’d been together 7 years by then) and it only got used for us, not for entertaining. We never get invited to BBQs either. We moved again to a house with a smaller garden. The BBQ got left out all winter & is really rusty, although it works fine. Again, it’s very rarely used. We didn’t cook anything on it last year & probably won’t during this heatwave, even though it is nice to eat al fresco. DH says he just can’t be doing with the faff & the waiting around. How about you guys?

We LOVE BBQs. We have them all the time in the summer. Either when it's just us or entertaining. We had one on Sunday when my in-laws were visiting. Didn't have them often as a child unless we were on holiday, same with my husband but since moving out we've had them as often as possible. In our flat my husband would buy a disposable one and do it in the carpark, then when we moved into our house with a garden the BBQ was one of the first things we bought. Even if it rains my husband will go out with a big umbrella and then bring it inside to eat. Meat just tastes so much better done on a BBQ and by eating outside we can indulge in the lost art of conversation. We often stay out late into the night with a bottle of wine and get the firebowl going. Sometimes our neighbour joins us.

Very rarely. One or two nice ones I remember was when they had lots of warm dishes like vegetable couscous not done on the bbq and they were just lovely and relaxed help yourself type of hosts. I hate the ones (probably from the ones my parents did and it usually ended in argument!) where you are handed a sad sausage in a dry bun and have to try and eat salad and a chicken leg from a paper plate on your lap. There are wasps and jokes about things being burnt and raw at the same time and everyone looks stressed!

Most of our BBQ experience is with family and to be honest the BBQ is just a very limited meat fest - the usual fare of processed products (burgers, sausage and buns), with not a vegetable in sight. When we've hosted there is always a variety of salads, corn on the cob, tomatoes/mushrooms in dressing and so on. We were invited to 1 bbq and by the time we got there, all the food was eaten. My fav outside meal is with a hot stone with well prepared meat and fish, cooked to taste and served with salads as above. Very tasty! I think I'll do one next time the weather is good!!

Ninja electric barbecue is a game changer. That and the Ninja electric pizza oven. We cook outside multiple times a week with them, can be very ad hoc about it as they require no setup, do whole joints of meat etc. If it’s raining, DH gets sent out to do it Grin

Depends on the BBQ.
Interesting, flavourful salads and marinaded meats then yes.
A load of plain chicken legs, cook from frozen Richmond sausages and gristly burgers on cold, pappy bread with dry boiled new potatoes and a few token chunks of iceberg lettuce and tomato, then no thanks.
