Trumplethinskin wants his Situation Room photo because it most definitely rained on his parade - Trump thread #145 | Mumsnet

I did think there would be more WW3 threads!

I thought Trump making statements as he headed off for a weekend of golf somewhat took the sting out of its credibility…

Which does support the suggestion that previous "I'm so worried" threads were maybe less than sincere.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 02/08/2025 11:52

Were the subs circling Epstein Island before he redirected them?

Serpentstooth · 02/08/2025 12:05

God help me, I signed up to the FT mostly for Jay Rayner but it's a reasonable read for me. Most of the finance may as well be in Greek for all I know. And I still have Guardian subscription although a lot of it's coverage irritates me, again, some of it I read. Good puzzles though. Observer on Sunday. Matt Frei, C4 and LBC, and Simon Marks USA correspondent for LBC are journalists I trust to have a fair grasp of what's happening and tell us about it in an even-handed way. Newspapers are no longer a reliable news source for me.

fixingmylife · 02/08/2025 12:05

Just heard on LBC an interview with Matt Frei with John Sweeney who said there were rumours that Trump is Bi-Sexual and that could be why he doesn't want to release the files!

Serpentstooth · 02/08/2025 12:08

I suspect, with his horror of germs, he's more of a voyeur than active participant no matter who's involved.

To be fair, I was extremely worried when Russia kicked off with Ukraine. Likewise when other nuclear powers start getting argy bargy. But with Trump I just think 'dickhead' and don't take it seriously. After all we know TACO.

homer simpson what GIF

As an armchair psychologist, I would suggest that given Trumps public persona, his "thing" would be humiliation. Specifically being on the receiving end of it.

I leave the rest to your fertile, viper imaginations.

Well, (as predicted at the time) we're still here.

It's hard to convey what the late 70s and early 80s were like in the UK if you had a scientific bent, read stuff that would be blocked under the Online Safety Act as a teenager and had parents who knew what it was like to have a bomb fall on them. It does tend to give you a pretty high bar for anxiety.

Nothing since the turn of the millennium has made me feel any more scared than I was in the 80s. And I grew up vowing nothing would.

I think the problem most of us have with the Telegraph is that they are wholesale Trump/Reform in their politics these days - there's no rationality left, just a lot of hatemongering. Their articles about immigration are unbearable.

Yes, they are like a slightly more polite Sun or Express.

Still trash but better grammar, an underbelly of racism but more polite about it

I lived through it and remember cycling home from my friend's in the next village and realising I was more than 4 minutes from both and being terrified.

But now I'm married to a nuclear scientist. I see first hand the reactions of people who really know their shit to these events.

What has your DH’s reaction to Trump’s little Truth strop? Anything to worry about?

JoshLymanSwagger · 02/08/2025 13:32

@Serpentstooth DH watches GB news, for the comedy value.

Caesar wrote about himself in the third person. Seems to be a thing great men of history do.

And it's always the men...

He'll spend the weekend in the wrong type of bunker unless his caddy cheats again.

That's a great pub quiz question.

"Who is the first woman in history we know through her own words ?"

In the UK, the Vindolanda tablets?

He laughed and said 'What a muppet.' Then pointed out that american nuclear subs have always been strategically positioned to act against russian aggression. So Trump has announced that he's issued instructions for them to carey on as normal.

And it's always the men...

I knew a very pseudy little female person who used to write blogs about herself in the third person.

About this "nuclear submarines" thing: a nuclear submarine is one which is propelled by a nuclear reactor. It is not necessarily armed with nuclear warheads. I mention this because I am not sure Trump knows it...

I'll be honest, I didn't have an "aha !" answer (thus proving it's easier to set quizzes ....).

But dear Claudia Severa ... (it is beyond fascinating that is a whole name you will find in use today across the world - there are 10 showing on Facebook) ... a better question (to which I have no answer) is whether there is any woman predating that.

It's "own hand" don't forget. Men writing about women doesn't count. No matter who (so Cleopatra is out, for example).

I appreciate we may not know the sex of tablet squigglers ....

Longtime lurker here - great threads and essential part of my daily read.

Surfacing to ask. Does Sappho count?
