Good morning from the train to Edinburgh! We're off to Trnsmt in Glasgow today so were up stupidly early for our 6am train 🙈. The kittens were baffled 🤣.

There is, as always, the dickhead without earphones treating the train carriage to the audio that goes with the Tiktok they're watching 🙄🙄🙄.

Dd2's spending the day with her dad - she plans to prep for an exam she has on Tuesday and stay out of the sun 🌞.

I have no idea what we're eating yet - probably McDonald's breakfast when we finally get into Glasgow & then something from one of the food vans at Trnsmt.

What about all of you?

It’s just after 2:30pm, waiting for the rugby to start in half an hour. NZ vs France.
It’s raining which we don’t get much of, so it’s super nice. DH has a friend here. DD is in Melbourne for a long weekend.

Crunchymum · 12/07/2025 07:34

Oh wow. Have a lovely day / weekend in Glasgow lucysmam and enjoy Trnsmt.

Nothing quite as exciting although we are also up early and off on a train. We're visiting relatives who live about an hour outside of London. They've just moved into a big house and have a pool in their garden and have invited a load of us over for a pool day.

Looking forward to seeing my rellies and having a day out of the horrid, London heat.

digiwidgy · 12/07/2025 07:35

DH is working today but has gone in super early to avoid the heat. DS is playing golf in a couple of hours, DD is off to Trnsmt. I am waiting for DH to finish as we need to go and look at a few bits and pieces that we need for the garden now work is almost complete. Beyond that trying to keep as cool as possible.

GameOfJones · 12/07/2025 07:46

We were all up early, DDs got up around 5.30am and none of us slept well because of the heat.

I'm just having a coffee in the garden.... it's already very warm in the sunshine! DH has already washed and hung a load of laundry on the line and it'll probably be dry soon! We've been making the most of this heat to get things cleaned and dried, I did the living room curtains yesterday and they've come out perfectly (fortunately, as they said dry clean only but a cold wash on a wool cycle with very low spin did the trick!)

DD1 has a birthday party in a local village hall later so I need to grab something out of the present box for that.

Other than that, we have absolutely no plans. It is going to be over 30c again here today so we've put the parasol up in the garden and I may just sit under that with my book. We've got the paddling pool out too so may all be in there later to cool off a bit!

Hope everyone has a lovely day.

Mikart · 12/07/2025 07:48

Packing for a trip away tomorrow. A walk up the road for iced coffee at 11. Staying inside the rest of the day!

PearlsPearl · 12/07/2025 07:55

Was surprised to see your thread this early @lucysmam but you have a good reason! Wish I was going. It's already mega warm here in Scotland so hope you've got your suncream!

I'm up early-ish for me just because it's so sunny and I slept with the curtains open, I like an early start sometimes. In winter I cannot be roused from my bed but in summer I sleep well and wake well.

I'm off to aqua at 9. Considering eating a banana before I go or after.

The rest of the day we're staying in doing all sorts of jobs, nothing interesting but things I've been looking forward to getting done.

Have a good day Saturday gang! <3

TroysMammy · 12/07/2025 08:00

Good morning @lucysmam another week has gone by.

Today it's my niece's 15th birthday, where has the time gone? I will call to see her later to give her the present she wanted conned me for the other week when we went to Meet the Bees. She wanted to buy a badminton racquet set but thought her Mum, my sister, would disapprove. Another thing she probably won't use. She then had the idea "if you buy it for my birthday Auntie then Mum couldn't say anything". Yes, I'm a malleable Auntie. Hey ho she's my only niece and I'm her only Auntie and one who is child free by choice.

Then this evening we are going out for a family meal to celebrate her birthday.

lucysmam · 12/07/2025 08:01

@PearlsPearl yep! Factor 50 😇. And we're both drinking water so we have the bottles to take in and top up. It's quite foggy out the window at the mo.

@Crunchymum your day sounds fun!

Hi @lucysmam . Enjoy the festival.

It's forecast to be another hot day here. I've got some errands to run and I'm going to get them done early so I'm not out in the heat.

I had a new part delivered for my sewing machine so I'm going to be making sure that it's all in working order, and then I'll finish off the cushion cover I'm making while I watch Stage 8 of the Tour de France on tv. I'll be glad I'm in the cool sewing and not cycling around in 35 degree heat.

namechangeGOT · 12/07/2025 08:05

Today I am going to a new hairdresser! I have been with my old one for some time but he’s just not ‘getting’ my requests anymore and seems to just do the same old thing! So, thoughts and prayers that I don’t come out looking like Lindy La Pugh from Gimme Gimme Gimme!

Then I have a Victoria sponge cake and potato salad to make for a BBQ at my mums house later for her birthday!

DH is going to his best friends Memorial Day! They have a darts competition and raffles and aims to raise money for his wife and young children!

PermanentTemporary · 12/07/2025 08:07

Morning all! I’m very slowly getting up and trying to get organised to walk to the pharmacy early, as ds needs a Covid test to prove he’s ok to go back in to work (very vulnerable staff member, he’s been working from coffee shops and at home all week after someone tested positive). That’ll be my exercise. Then visiting my mum and catching up with some work, I’ve had a lot of leave over the past few weeks and it’s been wonderful but back to the grindstone now.

Have a great time in Glasgow!

RabbitsRock · 12/07/2025 08:14

Was just thinking “ooh it’s @lucysmam‘s thread today” & there you were! Early birds! And you are going to something with no vowels lol 🤣 - what is Trnsnt? Have a great time!
I’m just having a cuppa made by DH. DD16 has popped in for a chat & we managed to have a conversation about my missing charger with no tempers lost! Bet you anything she does have it though! Going to have a shower & wash my hair. It was cut last night & it’s made it a bit greasy. So good to have it done though. It’s been forever! I’ve eventually booked an eyebrow wax too. Sadly can’t afford to have my nails done as my sick pay has been cocked up but hopefully DD will oblige later. She’s going out for a walk now. Her back looks so sore from catching the sun yesterday. DH is working til 1 then we’re going on a picnic near a National Trust property. I need to buy some ice packs for the cool box as ours have disappeared. Got lots of goodies including strawberries & mini rolls. There’s a load of washing in the machine which can go on once I’ve added a few more bits & the dishwasher needs unloading/loading plus salt putting in. I need to ring the theatre to swap a ticket as I have double booked myself. I’m luckily able to do that as I’m a member. It’s going to be another scorcher here. Really warm & sunny already. I can’t swim in the sea because of my arm but might go for a paddle later then walk round the harbour. I’ve been walking much more since I’ve not been able to drive. Hopefully carry on even when I’m back behind the wheel. Ribeye steaks for tea with chips, peas & breaded garlic mushrooms. I’d actually forgotten we bought the steaks so that’s a nice treat to look forward to.

LeonoraFlorence · 12/07/2025 08:20

Beach day for us today. DH has just come back with a coffee and breakfast for us and car is packed. Taking paddle boards etc and car is full of plenty to do for DDs. There’s some old castle ruins just along the beach too which the girls love to play around on too. Meeting BIL/SIL and DNs there and we will have a picnic for lunch. We will all have takeaway tonight I think at ours when we come home.
Hope everyone has a lovely day in the sun!

Whatshesaid96 · 12/07/2025 08:21

It's our 11th wedding anniversary today but we have no plans for it. The kids have swimming lessons and then we will take them to a role play sort of centre this afternoon that has air con. Once the kids are in bed we might play some games or similar to be different from a usual evening. DH goes away for work tomorrow lunchtime hence the lack of plans. We will postpone celebrating until he is back next week, he's got an afternoon where he isn't working so we'll go out and do something before the last school pick up of the term.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 12/07/2025 08:25

Hope you have a lovely time Lucysman

We are heading into Newcastle City centre early. Going to mooch in Forbidden planet, Søstrene Grene and check out the Pokemon vending machine we spotted last week in Eldon Square. There will also be bubble tea. There may also be a happy meal just for the squishmallow

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 12/07/2025 08:29

Currently lying on the bed under a fan drinking iced coffee.

I'm one of those people who get ill within minutes of being out in even the slightest warmth 🙄 so I’m hiding instead. DH will probably take the kids out at some stage as the rest of the family can cope with sunshine.

TheScottishPlay · 12/07/2025 08:32

Enjoy Trnsmt! DH and I were just chatting about great times we had at it's predecessor T in the Park in the 90s/00s. You've struck it lucky in scorchio Scotland today!

We are in the process of packing to move house, so surrounded by boxes and 'stuff'. I'll have to rope in DS later to sort through his bedroom contents, including his uni room contents. I will catch some sun though.

Keep us posted on who you see!

Decafflatteplease · 12/07/2025 08:34

Morning @lucysmam I haven't done one of these for ages!

Ive been up for about an hour getting all the windows open while it's still cool and then will shut windows blinds and curtains in a bit until this evening.

Usual uniform wash on and will get on line in a bit.

Youngest DC is playing while I have a cup of tea, everyone else is still in bed.

This afternoon we are going swimming to avoid the heat and then we are watching a film with dinner (pizza) again to stay out of the sun!

frozendaisy · 12/07/2025 09:00

Morning all
just about to put coffee on
youngster is sun kissed - not quite burnt - across nose and cheeks after sports day all day at school yesterday - fair of skin - and he reapplied “three times” - so he’s not going outside today - well maybe under parasol - and he needs to practice a monologue
went to comedy last night - which was fun - so happy to chill, book some stuff for holidays
I would be content reading all day drinking fruit infused water we shall see
eldest wants to go get an ordered book from big town (shudder)

Simonjt · 12/07/2025 09:11

Have a great time at the festival @lucysmam, was it called T in the park before?

We’ve been out for breakfast and we’re about to go for a forest walk, a trail has been set up so we’re going to see if we can find everything on the trail. We’ve got a picnic to take with us, for fairness I’ve split it between four bags, so the whinging will start fairly soon.

Nothing but laziness planned for this evening.

gingercat02 · 12/07/2025 09:26

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone, hope you're all having the glorious weather we have.
I've been awake since about 6am, but had to wait a bit to wake DH up 🥰😊
In the garden with a coffee (and factor 50).
First load of washing on.
Off to my volunteering role at 1130 So need to think of a fairly substantial brunch.
Home at 3 and then our local indie cinema with DH and DS to watch the F1 movie.
We're having dinner out as DH is owed a father's day meal, and DS got better than expected A level mock grades, so we are celebrating 🍾
I haven't read back yet, will catch up shortly

Selfsetfree · 12/07/2025 09:36

Morning all I feel very lazy in comparison to you all. Late night last night at a music event with friends. Been awake a while scrolling. I’ve got a quiet day, it’s already a hot one. I’m going to swim later. I’ve got some work to do to but making the most of a peaceful day. As the dc are out and about. Need to go to the shops too. Enjoy everyone.

gingercat02 · 12/07/2025 09:47

@TheScottishPlay and @lucysmam
DH and I were watching a bit of TRNSMT last night and talking about the Big Day and Tea in the Park.
I love Glasgow, I was at uni there, and DH is Scottish (an eastcoast-phile) so we have a big soft spot even though we have been in England for 30 years!

DilemmaDelilah · 12/07/2025 09:52

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. I have only just woken up having had a WONDERFUL night's sleep courtesy of a cetirizine antihistamine last night. That means I haven't managed my self-imposed 'up and dressed by 9am' rule, but never mind. I took the antihistamine to help me manage the itch of an insect bite on the area of skin where the nerves were damaged when I had my axillary clearance (lymph nodes removed in my armpit, for those lucky people who don't know). That means that although I can feel the itch I can't do anything about scratching it, because I can't feel anything in that area. A bit like having an itch on your nose after having a dental injection when it is still numb.

We have no plans at all for today. It's going to be too hot to do much anyway, and I have to keep out of the sun. I was already very sensitive to the sun and I'm now on medication which states specifically that it can cause sun sensitivity, so best just to keep out of it! In previous years I have managed a gentle golden glow by the end of summer, by dint of lots of very short exposures to the sun, but this year I'm just pale and not very interesting.

I may wash the two remaining feather pillows. The heat and breeze should help them to dry very well, and the sunlight will help to bleach and disinfect them. Other than that we may play some scrabble. It's a real pity not to be able to go out and enjoy the nice weather, but actually I wouldn't enjoy it at all.

I'm just finishing a banana sandwich brought to me by the delectable Mr Dilemma, or do I mean a delectable banana sandwich brought to me by Mr Dilemma - one of those two anyway. Then I will consider getting up.

Have a lovely day everybody. @lucysmam I read yesterday that one of the headline acts at Trnsmt has pulled out for some reason. I only read the headline so I have no idea who it was or why, but it made me think of you.

JustAnInchident · 12/07/2025 09:54

Morning all! Hope you have a wonderful time @lucysmam , I expect you’ve loaded up on lots of suncream, it’s bound to be boiling!

Steady start today, 3yo DS had a lie in til 9ish and 4mo DD didn’t wake overnight and only got up for the day at 7ish so I feel like a new woman! Had a Waitrose delivery, drank an iced coffee, walked the dogs before it gets unbearably hot and sorted the horses and now packing up some lunches and assorted small children supplies and just waiting for the go-ahead from DH as it’s arguably the most exciting day of the year (according to DS and DH) as its first day of combining! Both our combines are out today and it’s all systems go getting everyone ready, just waiting on the magic moisture reading for the green flag! DD and I will be in one of the tractors and DS in with DH in one of the combines.
