I'm struggling with an online course that work needs me to do

I work in care and the organisation I work for wants me to study a module. I am studying that now. I enjoyed it to date.

I was given assignments to do from approx the 22nd of June and I have 8 weeks.

I can't believe how fast the time has gone.

I struggled for the past few weeks with researching and finding stuff for the case study.

I did some studying and I did a rough bullet point piece to create larger paragraphs from them.

Buts that's only one question.

I have a few different assignments to do.

I am struggling so so so so much.

It's just my time is being pulled from every direction. I worked all of last week and then Saturday came and I was still working and I had to stay over night and I was hardly allowed sleep. I got a three day migraine from that. I was still somewhat functional and I still had to work.

Now I will likely have to stay late tonight and work again tomorrow morning.

I am getting so tired so easily and just quiet simply do not have the head space to throw myself at this. I have limited time. I have other struggles too in that I have family home from abroad and my time is pulled from every direction.

Work then has me booked to be live in for 2 weeks from next week. I will be lucky if I would be allowed sleep. Never mind time to put pen to paper.

I was planning on packing a backpack of supplies and going to sit down in a hub in a hotel that was designed for workers. I am just so tired so easily. Everyone wants a peice of me.

Ok don’t panic. How much work do you need to do and when exactly is your deadline?

If you have kids, is their father able to take some of the strain?

Look at a monthly calendar of the time between now and your deadline and block out your residentials. How many days do you have?

@Stonebag

"organisation I work for wants me to study a module"

You won't be the first to have to complete the module.

There will certainly be, online, that precise module for your organisation.

May help relieve the stress and panic?

The deadline isn't until the middle of August. So there is still time. However the past two and half weeks went by so quickly. I know my schedule next week won't be too bad but then after that it will be very busy and then we are into the start of August.

It's so bad. I have no young kids. This should be a good time for me.

I am trying to organise time to escape from everyone one. I am being pulled between works and family and aging parent and it's all too much.

My energy levels this week has been shit and on the floor. It's all from last week. Working throught the weekend with only allowed 4 hours sleep.

I have two written assignments based on case studys.

I have some work experience hours and I need to write up an assignment on that too.

There's 5 weeks left. With an option of a two week extension. I won't ask for that yet. But I will need it.

It's such an impossible thing. Expecting me to do so much.

I am still exhausted from last weekend.

I was given a day off mid week and I was hoping on sitting down with my books but is was so tired and not only that my family were trying to pull me from every direction and I just never had time. Then it was back to work. I am just so tired.

Can you tell your family that you are unavailable except for life and limb.

TarquinsTurnips · 11/07/2025 20:24

Op, I get this, I have adhd and I delay starting and am prone to overwhelm.

I don't doubt that you could do it, you are feeling a bit rough from a migraine and lots going on.

However it will have a toll on you afterwards. The only circumstances now that I can get into gear with a massive workload is knowing that there is a respite afterwards.

So do you have any leave you can take after the deadline? If you know there is a clear end and some clear down time, then it becomes mentally a little more bearable.

You also need to look at what can be dropped or delayed right now.

And realistically look at your calendar each week to make sure you have some down time.

If its not looking doable then you just need to be honest- you've been struggling with migraine and the toll of looking after your parents is hard - could they look at extending it for you.

Stonebag · 11/07/2025 20:37

The issue is that I worked all of last weekend and then the weekend came and I still wasn't allowed a day off. Still at work but this time accompanied with very little sleep.

I have just been exhausted all week.

My energy is utterly depleted.

Except I live with them. They don't fucking care.

Do work pay for your study hours? If you have woken sleepovers can you get time back? Or are they waking night shifts?

Ask for the extension as that will relieve your stress. You need to block out time to do the work in your diary. Tell visiting relatives and family and work. Say no to all additional requests form anyone. Ask DH to take over some of the day to day stuff until this is done.

And don't let perfect be the enemy of good. Just get the assignments in. They do not have to be amazing. They just need to show you have processed the information in the module.

ruralmural · 11/07/2025 20:42

I would talk to my manager or ask for a 1-1 abs explain the pressure. If the module is mandatory then should they not be paying your study hours so you’re spending less time working ‘on the floor’. Are you salaried or do you have set number of weekly hours and paid hourly?

They are not waking night shifts. It's overnight stays where I do have a bed to sleep in.

.by right I should be getting time off in lieu but that is not happening.

You need to claim your waking hours back, it’s your entitlement, insist on it -you upkeep your side if TL work contract, they need to uphold their side of the contract as well.

ruralmural · 11/07/2025 21:01

If you got your time back to rest properly you wouldn’t be so exhausted on your scheduled days off and could study

Stonebag · 11/07/2025 21:02

I don't want to ask for an extension now in case I fall into a comfortable position. I do want to do my best and meet the deadline as much as possible. I know I won't. Closer to the deadline I will request an extension. But I do want to meet it.

I am not trying to be perfect. I just need time. I need sleep too so that j can have the head space to do this without exhaustion.

I amwant to pack a backpack tomorrow and just go for the day with my laptop and copy and tablet. There is a hotel behind my city made for business and work and there are hubs. I want to sit in there for the day.

ninjahamster · 11/07/2025 21:03

You’ve posted about this before haven’t you? I think they’re expecting too many hours from you. What does your contract say?

saveforthat · 11/07/2025 21:05

Could you take a few days annual leave to get on top of it?

Twelftytwo · 12/07/2025 06:48

There are many many vacancies in care.
You need to talk to your manager about lack of sleep and how it's affecting you, then if they don't sort it out leave and work somewhere where you are able to get sleep and rest you're entitled to.

No don't do this. Absolutely don't give them any more of your own time when you're owed time in lieu!

I'd be having a very frank conversation with my line manager about how unfeasible it is to complete this training when no time is available to be allocated to it, and because you're exhausted due to being owed time back.

Stonebag · 12/07/2025 19:48

This is my first weekend probably off for weeks and weeks. And there was even a question mark over it today but I got it off. Also tomorrow.

I was 'on call' for a few weekends too. So there was no proper time off in any sizable chunk.

Last weekend was particularly though on me and I suffered for days.

I am going to have difficulty doing this. Nobody seems to understand or they don't want to understand.

I do get a little bit of work done today but just a tiny bit and I had to explore some of the tech involved. The doc I downloaded was all gobbly-gook. I had to figure out a way to read that properly. It took me a while. I was going to pay for an Microsoft office on my personal account but then I found the solution. All in all took me about an hour or two to figure that out.

Now I need to bury my head into case studies and research and compile this. It's so hard.

My family is taking about going on a day tour tomorrow and I would love to join them but I don't think so.

I am thinking about going into the city tomorrow morning to sit into a hotel lobby for the whole entire day. Just to force myself to get work done. There is hotel that was built for business users with work hubs. I am thinking about going there. If I stay at home there will be someone guaranteed to pull me away from any work.

OP posts:
Stonebag · 12/07/2025 21:57

My plan for tomorrow was to escape away I to the city and sit in a hotel lobby or bar with my tablet, copybooks and course work and get some work done.

My plan was to go in early aim for approx 11 am arrival to the hotel and stay working until evening time with breaks.

I lesr t this evening that some of my family will be going away tomorrow for a day tour.

This should free up a considerable source of stress and demands from me. It would still likely be stressful at home with an aging parent at home.

I'm just wondering if I should continue with my plan of going into the city tomorrow to a hotel or if I should stay at home.

I am still so tired and exhausted with a low level headache still there from last week.

I don't know if I should stay at home andgo between sleeping and studying for the day.

does your course prohi it the use of AI? Could you use chatgpt to summarise case studies for you/ help with bullet points?

My course and college allows only a little AI in the sense that you can use it initially for brainstorming ideas. But you can't really use it to do the course for you.

I don't want to rely on ChatGPT and ai incase other people do the same too.

I understand the case study and what's being asked.

I just need the time and headspace to turn what I have learned I to words for this stuff and to research things.

It's all just so hard bringing it all together.
