Holidays that you have loved that might match what I'm looking for!

Haven't booked anything this year, but we're thinking about 2 weeks in September. (Just me and my husband)

However, I don't have anywhere specific in mind - I have more of a ticklist for destination and hotel!

  • Beach holiday - hotel would ideally have sea views and a nice beach/beaches nearby
  • Lush, green scenery (we hated Lanzarote for example, as it was just so dry and arid where we were)
  • Some safe-feeling nightlife - restaurants and nice bars that we can stroll to
  • Some nice 'old town' vibes in the surrounding area - again, nice restaurants etc and we love a bit of architectural appreciation!
  • Prefer an all inclusive hotel, but somewhere with a bit of personality. Paid a fortune for a 5* last year, and it was lovely but somehow a bit sterile and soulless
  • Good food and drink at the hotel as well as lovely pool and comfy sunbeds!

Doesn't feel like a lot to ask, but I think a lot of what we're looking for needs to be determined anecdotally as opposed to browsing travel sites, so if you have any recommendations that sound like they might fit the bill, would love to hear them!

Skiathos

Have a look at i-escape as they specialise in places with personality. The Hotel Esplendido in Port de Soller jumped to mind though I haven’t actually been.

I would suggest dropping the AI requirement as it will give you more places with personality, especially if you want to eat out anyway?

Croatia

Loveduppenguin · 11/07/2025 11:03

Ibiza…old town?
madeira?

minipie · 11/07/2025 11:05

Oh look up the Hotel Lemongarden in Croatia (I forget which island). Looked wonderful, would love to go we ever get a trip without kids!!

CraigElwell · 11/07/2025 11:05

cyprus

Girlintheframe · 11/07/2025 11:06

Croatia fits the bill but I would go to one of the islands rather than somewhere like Dubrovnik unless your happy with it being v.v busy.

cheezncrackers · 11/07/2025 11:08

Lush, green scenery is going to be a challenge at the end of a long, hot summer in Europe. You might need to go to the Caribbean if you want that.

Agree - although greener than Lanzarote is easier to achieve !

Side in Turkey.

Have a look at the Barut chain of hotels. There are a few in that area

MakeMeJuno · 11/07/2025 11:36

Madeira fits the bill in lots of ways, but I would say that being the atlantic the water can be very cold! Some beaches also aren't your classic white sand/sunlounger type. The demographic can be a little older, so it might not be exactly what you're after - but the hotels are all lovely with generally exceptional food, the scenery is beautiful, lots to do and explore etc.

Chewbecca · 11/07/2025 11:44

I frequently say it but it sounds like an upmarket cruise would suit you! The sea views are always amazing, whether you are on your balcony and from the rear terrace for breakfast / lunch. Adriatic or Greek Islands perhaps. Seabourn would be a good line for this, like this one:

Alcudia in Mallorca is our go to for all of your requirements. We go 2/3 times a year and love it

MidnightEagle · 11/07/2025 13:38

We are just back from Lake Garda. It was beautiful. We have also done Lake Como and Maggiore which were also beautiful. I would say Garda had a bit more happening though.

Noodledog · 11/07/2025 14:19

Sardinia or Corsica

Imisssleep2 · 11/07/2025 14:32

Not very green but we love Santorini, but have always done self catering so can't recommend an all inclusive. Turtle beach in Tobago was all inclusive and green and we liked it there but may be the wrong time of year for there.

Would avoid Dubrovnik others have suggested unless you like it rammed busy and you'd need a hotel with a pool as beaches were few and far between where we stayed.

Jamandtoastfortea · 11/07/2025 14:37

What about Marbella? Nice old town, great prom for running / walking. Sea front hotels, nice beaches, plenty of restaurants and bars, easy access to other places around (mijas for example if you like old). Daily flights to Malaga and only 40 mins transfer.

Or Mexico, Central America if the budget is big!

Lindos Blu hotel Lindos. Adult only

Don't go to Maderia if you are after a beach holiday! It's lovely but not for a beach holiday

It’s on Brac in Croatia, it’s beautiful

hadenoughpassthewine · 11/07/2025 15:07

Any of the Melia’s in Menorca - or a Hotel Rural maybe. Some of the best restaurants are in Fornells but definitely rockier part of the island so maybe not to stay, Ca Na Pilar in Migjorn Gran is amazing but inland although it’s easy enough to get taxis on the island as very few places are more than 30 minutes away. Cuitadella and Mahon fit the old town spec. Family friends have stayed at Torrelbenc near Cala En Porter and loved it. We’re fortunate that we can visit every year due to family owning a home there, genuinely one of the most beautiful islands in the Med in my opinion - we never get bored going.

leccybill · 11/07/2025 15:23

Look at Platanista Hotel in Kos. It's not too big but big enough - 2 pools and a good pool bar and bar. It's family run and the staff really look after you. They have a private beach over the road and you can stroll to Kos Town for a bit of life and culture.

Also, Sissi in Crete (ticks all boxes but no beach) or Koutoufalari in Crete too. Lots of nice tavernas.
Cavtat in Croatia is nice for couples. Pebble beach but gorgeous clear sea and beautiful sunsets.

We're just back too. The lakeside towns are lovely for mooching around, much better for adults. Sirmione, Lazise and Bardolino are gorgeous. No beach but can swim in the lake. Perfect couples holiday, you'll eat well too.
