Holidays that you have loved that might match what I'm looking for!

Haven't booked anything this year, but we're thinking about 2 weeks in September. (Just me and my husband)

However, I don't have anywhere specific in mind - I have more of a ticklist for destination and hotel!

  • Beach holiday - hotel would ideally have sea views and a nice beach/beaches nearby
  • Lush, green scenery (we hated Lanzarote for example, as it was just so dry and arid where we were)
  • Some safe-feeling nightlife - restaurants and nice bars that we can stroll to
  • Some nice 'old town' vibes in the surrounding area - again, nice restaurants etc and we love a bit of architectural appreciation!
  • Prefer an all inclusive hotel, but somewhere with a bit of personality. Paid a fortune for a 5* last year, and it was lovely but somehow a bit sterile and soulless
  • Good food and drink at the hotel as well as lovely pool and comfy sunbeds!

Doesn't feel like a lot to ask, but I think a lot of what we're looking for needs to be determined anecdotally as opposed to browsing travel sites, so if you have any recommendations that sound like they might fit the bill, would love to hear them!

Rovinj in northern Croatia has a beautiful old town and long promenade with lots of trees.

Pootles34 · 11/07/2025 15:45

Madeira is lovely and lush but I think only one piddly little fake beach unfortunately!

YouChump · 11/07/2025 15:48

Corsica ticks a lot of your boxes but I’m not sure about the AI
Wonderful food though.

Sandals Barbados

BoarBrush · 11/07/2025 16:09

What's the budget? Someone on here was recommending a £100k holiday the other day!

peanutbuttertoasty · 11/07/2025 16:23

Def look at Sardinia. Stunning, green and beaches galore!

MamaBearCharlie · 11/07/2025 18:29

Koukounaries area of skiathos!! We went in 2023 and have booked again for next year. Same hotel and everything! Never ever done that before!!!

We're just back too. The lakeside towns are lovely for mooching around, much better for adults. Sirmione, Lazise and Bardolino are gorgeous. No beach but can swim in the lake. Perfect couples holiday, you'll eat well too.

Yes we went to Sermione and Lazise too, both beautiful. We actually went with the kids and stayed at a family village which was fab but would be great for couples too. There was plenty of beaches near us although they were pebble beaches.

Corfu

Toooldtopretend · 11/07/2025 18:36

Personally I think that this is a bit of a mismatch of requirements. If you want AI then you are likely to be more remote as many people go on those types of holidays to stat within the hotel rather than there being places to walk to/local vibes etc.

we did go to an AI in Tossa de Mar that was walking distance to the centre but the hotel grounds were smalller as a result. I would suggest looking at a HB where you can chose whether you have lunch or dinner as the meal. Lido de Cameorie in Italy was great - easy access to Pisa, Florence, Lucca etc.

100% Malta. It’s got everything you’re looking for. One time we stayed in Hotel Santana and the second time I can’t remember…but we will be visiting again as we love it there.

Towundertwo · 11/07/2025 19:17

Vilamoura, lovely marina, we usually stay in the old village but it’s not on the beach or all inclusive. There is a few other hotels though dotted around, the nightlife is fantastic! And it’s beautiful. Always a good time

Agree - or rather than HB look for a hotel that has a restaurant on site and then you can choose when to eat in and when to eat out.

Kefalonia, Scala and Argostoli are both beautiful spots.

NegroniMacaroni · 11/07/2025 19:31

The Azores islands are very lush, and do have some nice beaches though they're quite rugged. They have hot springs too which are lovely (including one in the ocean). Just beware the weather can be quite changeable - but I suspect this will be the case for a lot of places that are 'lush'.

MinnieMountain · 11/07/2025 19:38

Alghero would fit the bill apart from the AI bit.

cheapskatemum · 11/07/2025 21:57

Cornwall is lovely in September!

StampOnTheGround · 11/07/2025 22:03

Kefalonia

CrickityCrickets · 11/07/2025 22:04

Tenby

Ivy888 · 12/07/2025 06:35

I immediately thought of Croatia when I read your wishlist- sea, green scenery and bars/restaurants. .

Which hotel do you recommend? We’ve been looking at this area! Good to hear you have been and want to go back x

WasherWoman25 · 12/07/2025 21:14

Some of the Greek Islands are very green and would be lovely in September. I think Corfu is the greenest, but Crete is lovely too.

apapuchi · 12/07/2025 22:30

Second (third?) Corfu. It can get a bit 'waspy' in September as the fruit ripens/over-ripens (I believe that's why) but it's just lovely there. You could stay in Kassiopi it's quite rocky but very scenic and lovely beaches there and nearby, we love Kalami. If you hire a car you can go down south to sandier beaches like Agios Gordios South and Corfu town is lovely with amazing food.
